The Student's Guide to Medical Jurisprudence (Classic Reprint) by John Abercrombie Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to Medical Jurisprudence This little book has been compiled for the use students at the suggestion of the publishers. The freest use has been made of the standard works of Taylor, Tidy, Wharton and Stille, Casper (New Sydenham Society's translation), Ogston, Woodman and Tidy, and Guy and Ferrier, as also of Taylor on poisons and Winter Blyth on poisons. To those who have the means and leisure to study any of the above, such a work as this is not addressed, but it is believed that there are many within whose reach they never come. In dealing with the poisons the writer has purposely avoided all mention of the search for them in organic compounds, partly because such knowledge can only be really acquired in the laboratory, and partly because in everyday practice analyses of this nature are invariably conducted by an analyst who has devoted special attention to this particular subject. The writer can lay but little claim to originality, he has simply endeavoured to condense and group together, in a readily assimilable form, the chief facts belonging to the important subject of Medical Jurisprudence. A Manual of Medical Jurisprudence for the Use of Students at Law and of Medicine (Classic Reprint) by Marshall D. Ewell Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Medical Jurisprudence for the Use of Students at Law and of Medicine The subject of Medical Jurisprudence is one which does not receive from schools either of law or of medicine anything like the attention which its importance deserves. The author, when a student of the law some twenty years since, and more recently when a student of medicine, did not have the benefit of a single lecture upon this subject; and it is believed that many, if not a majority, of the law and medical colleges of the present day dismiss the subject either with no attention whatever or with so little attention that students derive no practical benefit from the instruction given. For a medical man to study the subject (as is usually the case if he studies it at all) clinically, so to speak, as the defendant in an action for malpractice or as a so-called expert witness, while certainly calculated to make an impression upon his memory, cannot be said to be wholly agreeable and profitable. On the other hand it is not uncommon to see attorneys engaged in the trial of cases involving important interests, betray culpable ignorance of this subject. Students' Manual of Medical Jurisprudence (Classic Reprint) by Rollin Clinton Blackmer Pdf

Excerpt from Students' Manual of Medical Jurisprudence A sharp opposing attorney, a prejudiced and pig-headed judge, an idiotic or imbecile jury, are horrors which can hardly be over-estimated, and the physician who would face them to obtain justice, either for himself or others, must be capa ble, and well and recently posted, if he expects to come out of the fray without a blemished reputation. Most of the facts with which we, as medical jurists, have to deal, are taught elsewhere, but the arrangement and concentration of them can be learned only from the Professor of Medical Jurisprudence. The Student's Guide to Clinical Medicine and Case-Taking (Classic Reprint) by Francis Warner Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to Clinical Medicine and Case-Taking Further experience gained since the publication of the former edition, has shown that students commencing clinical work need to be taught to think, and reason for themselves, as well as to observe. It is hoped that the plan of this work tends to give such training if properly used. The size of this work has not been increased, but new material has been added, and corrections have been made in accordance with the advances of clinical medicine, especially in the chapter on_ diseases of the nerve-system. A special scheme for taking notes of children has been added and the index has been made more complete. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Introduction to Medical Jurisprudence (Classic Reprint) by William McCallin Pdf

Excerpt from Introduction to Medical Jurisprudence In this book an attempt has been made to state the essentials of Medical Jurisprudence as definitely and, at the same time, as briefly as possible, without producing a 'cram' book. The points of law most likely to arise are set forth without comment, since in this form the reader can find out what the law is - concerning insanity, for example - more satisfactorily than when it is stated together with confusing opinions with regard to what it ought to be. Only the poisons that are most frequently fatal are described. It is hoped that the alphabetical arrangement of them, and the table of doses of the remedies usually employed in their treatment, will be found convenient. Excerpt from The Student's Guide to the Practice of Medicine IN this Edition I have endeavoured to supplement the two previous Editions by additional details on important points, and to insert an account of some diseases formerly omitted. By using smaller type I have been enabled to do this without materially increasing the size of the book or altering the original plan. I trust it is still handy and practical. I have to record my best thanks to Dr. Alexander Napier for valuable suggestions given to me, and for assisting me in seeing the work through the press. Medical Jurisprudence (Classic Reprint) by Alfred Swaine Taylor Pdf

Excerpt from Medical Jurisprudence Perhaps the early demand for a new American edition of Taylor's classical medical jurisprudence may in some measure be attrib ntable to the new features added at the time of the preceding Ameri can revision. The work was then brought thoroughly to date, and the law and judicial decisions both in Great Britain and the United States were introduced, together with a tabulation of cases and a reference to authorities. These changes made the work more serviceable to all classes in the two professions which it joins, increasing its hold as a favorite text-book in schools of medicine and law, rendering it even more useful to physicians in practice, and lawyers in the preparation of briefs and confirming its previous acceptance as an authority, by all English-speaking judicial tribunals. Since the issuance of the previous edition a strong impulse has been given to Forensic Medicine, by the International Congress of Medical Jurisprudence, by the Congress of Medical Jurisprudence of New York, 1895, and also by the special development of medico-legal Surgery in various societies. The present time, therefore, is most auspicious for the appearance of this new edit-ion, and it is fortunate that the demand for it comes at a time when these important advances can be represented. The increasing frequency of damage cases renders this department of medico-legal Surgery of growing importance. The eleventh American edition included the admirable work with which Dr. Thomas Stevenson had enriched the twelfth English edi tion, and was a thorough revision of all previous American and Eng lish editions. This present issue aims to continue this work along the same lines to the present date.h; The Editor desires to express his thanks and obligations to Surg Gen. George M. Sternberg, of the U. S. Army; Deputy surg.-gen. D. L. Huntington, l. D., U. S. Army; Capt. Pilcher, U. S. Army. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. A Text-Book of Legal Medicine (Classic Reprint) by Frank Winthrop Draper Pdf

Excerpt from A d104-Book of Legal Medicine This volume is prepared and published, primarily, as a help to medical students interested in Legal Medicine, but it is adapted as well to the needs of practitioners who wish to have the latest advances in Medical Jurisprudence at their service. The writer has ventured to cite illustrative cases for his text from the standard treatises of Forensic Medicine, and to these authors he desires to express his obligations; these he has supplemented with details from his own personal experience, which has been exceptionally full during the past twenty-eight years, as a medical examiner for the city of Boston, his investigations having comprised during that period over eight thousand deaths, under a suspicion of violence. The departments of Toxicology and of the Medico-legal Relations of Psychiatry have been purposely omitted from the volume, inasmuch as they have acquired an importance deserving, in each instance, independent treatment by specialists. The author makes no apology for limiting himself to Massachusetts Statutes in his citations of the law, believing, as he does, that these citations represent the most progressive and most intelligent expression of modern jurisprudence. A Manual of Medical Jurisprudence, Insanity and Toxicology (Classic Reprint) by Henry C. Chapman Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Medical Jurisprudence, Insanity and Toxicology The present manual embraces essentially the course of lectures on Medical Jurisprudence delivered by the author to the students of the Jefferson Medical College during the session of 1891 and 1892. It was prepared, at the request of the students, in the hope that it would assist them as well as others in the study of this most important branch of medicine. The necessarily prescribed limits of the work permit only of the consideration of those parts of this extensive subject which the experience of the author as Coroner's physician of the city of Philadelphia for a period of six years leads him to regard as the most important for practical purposes.
