The Student's Guide to Clinical Medicine and Case-Taking (Classic Reprint) by Francis Warner Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to Clinical Medicine and Case-Taking Further experience gained since the publication of the former edition, has shown that students commencing clinical work need to be taught to think, and reason for themselves, as well as to observe. It is hoped that the plan of this work tends to give such training if properly used. The size of this work has not been increased, but new material has been added, and corrections have been made in accordance with the advances of clinical medicine, especially in the chapter on_ diseases of the nerve-system. A special scheme for taking notes of children has been added and the index has been made more complete. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Student's Guide to the Practice of Medicine (Classic Reprint) by Matthew Charteris Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to the Practice of Medicine IN this Edition I have endeavoured to supplement the two previous Editions by additional details on important points, and to insert an account of some diseases formerly omitted. By using smaller type I have been enabled to do this without materially increasing the size of the book or altering the original plan. I trust it is still handy and practical. I have to record my best thanks to Dr. Alexander Napier for valuable suggestions given to me, and for assisting me in seeing the work through the press. The Student's Guide to Medical Diagnosis (Classic Reprint) by Samuel Fenwick Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to Medical Diagnosis The art of diagnosis would be readily acquired if the symptoms Of each disease were in all cases the same; but this is not so. Although therefore the rules laid down will generally sufice, yet you will occasionally meet with cases in which the accustomed signs are absent, or in which unusual symptoms are present. For instance, no complaint has more strongly marked signs than peritonitis the excessive and general pain of the abdomen, the great tenderness on pressure, the rapid, wiry pulse - and yet you may meet with fatal peritonitis with scarcely any pain, or with out tenderness, or with a pulse not above the normal standard. In order to obtain the necessary Skill in diagnosis, it will be requisite that you should practise the taking Of cases. You should record the symptoms and phy sical signs present in each case, the order in which the symptoms have been developed, the treatment adopted, the progress of the disease, and, if it terminate fatally, you should add the morbid appearances discovered after death. You will readily understand that unless some plan is adopted, there is great probability that you will either encumber your description Of the dis ease with a number Of unnecessary details, or overlook important facts. I have therefore added the following suggestions for a plan, which you may perhaps find useful until experience enables you to propose a better. Commence with the name and address of your patient, his age, and occupation. - The age is important, because many diseases, such as cancer, are chiefly found at cer tain periods of life. The nature of the occupation Often gives a clue to the complaint; as, for instance, painters and other workers in lead are especially liable to colic and paralysis. An Introduction to the Study of Clinical Medicine by Octavius Sturges Pdf

Excerpt from An Introduction to the Study of Clinical Medicine: Being a Guide to the Investigation of Disease, for the Use of Students This Manual assumes no more than to point out to students a method - not the only, or necessarily the best, method - of interrogating patients at the bedside. It goes upon the supposition that there are certain remarks and suggestions which, while they hardly fall within the province of set treatises, may yet be usefully interposed between the book description and the study of the living thing. The Student's Guide to Medical Jurisprudence (Classic Reprint) by John Abercrombie Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to Medical Jurisprudence This little book has been compiled for the use students at the suggestion of the publishers. The freest use has been made of the standard works of Taylor, Tidy, Wharton and Stille, Casper (New Sydenham Society's translation), Ogston, Woodman and Tidy, and Guy and Ferrier, as also of Taylor on poisons and Winter Blyth on poisons. To those who have the means and leisure to study any of the above, such a work as this is not addressed, but it is believed that there are many within whose reach they never come. In dealing with the poisons the writer has purposely avoided all mention of the search for them in organic compounds, partly because such knowledge can only be really acquired in the laboratory, and partly because in everyday practice analyses of this nature are invariably conducted by an analyst who has devoted special attention to this particular subject. The writer can lay but little claim to originality, he has simply endeavoured to condense and group together, in a readily assimilable form, the chief facts belonging to the important subject of Medical Jurisprudence. Clinical Diagnosis by James Finlayson Pdf

Excerpt from Clinical Diagnosis: A Handbook for Students and Practitioners of Medicine Considerable delay has occurred in the issue of this edition, as the pressure on his time, from some other work, prevented the Editor. From undertaking, at an earlier period, that thorough revision of his Clinical Manual which a new edition of a book of this kind necessarily demands after the lapse of a few years. Every portion has been revised by the original contributors and by the Editor himself: such additions and alterations have been made as seemed desir; able. Large sections, here and there, have been entirely re-written, and the number of illustrations increased from 85 to 160. These changes have led to an increase in the Size of the book: although in a sense this is to be. Regretted, it could scarcely be avoided. The plan of the book remains unchanged. It is designed to afford such assistance as students, actually working at Clinical Medicine, might seem to require. It is hoped that it may continue to be useful to them 'in their clinical work even after they have completed their course at the schools. Clinical Methods by Robert Hutchison Pdf

Excerpt from Clinical Methods: A Guide to the Practical Study of Medicine The title "Clinical Methods" probably describes the scope of this book better than any other. It is not intended as a treatise upon medical diagnosis. On that subject there is already a sufficiency of good works in existence. It aims rather at describing those methods of clinical investigation by the proper application of which a correct diagnosis can alone be arrived at. To every student when he first begins work in a medical ward the question presents itself: How shall I investigate this case? To that question the present work is intended to provide an answer. The first chapter deals, therefore, with the methods of case-taking in general, and includes a general scheme for the investigation of medical cases. The rest of the book is really an expansion of that scheme, each system being taken up separately, and the methods of investigating it described in detail. A special chapter has been devoted to the clinical methods of examining children, as these differ in many respects from those employed in the case of adults. Chapters have also been added on the examination of Pathological Fluids and on Clinical Bacteriology, subjects which are daily growing in importance. The methods employed in the investigation of surgical, gynaecological, or obstetric cases do not fall within the scope of the work. No effort has been spared to make the book thoroughly up to date, and it is hoped, therefore, that it will be found useful by those practitioners who may wish to make themselves acquainted with the latest methods of clinical investigation. Presenting Your Case by Clifford D. Packer Pdf

Medical students often struggle when presenting new patients to the attending physicians on the ward. Case presentation is either poorly taught or not taught at all in the first two years of medical school. As a result, students are thrust into the spotlight with only sketchy ideas about how to present, prioritize, edit, and focus their case presentations. They also struggle with producing a broad differential diagnosis and defending their leading diagnosis. This text provides a comprehensive guide to give well-prepared, focused and concise presentations. It also allows students to discuss differential diagnosis, incorporate high-value care, educate their colleagues, and participate actively in the care of their patients. Linking in-depth discussion of the oral presentation with differential diagnosis and high value care, Presenting Your Case is a valuable resource for medical students, clerkship directors and others who educate students on the wards and in the clinic.

Guide to the Clinical Examination and Treatment of Sick Children (Classic Reprint) by John Thomson Pdf

Excerpt from Guide to the Clinical Examination and Treatment of Sick Children The scope of this book is essentially supplementary; it is intended to supply, to practitioners and senior students, practical and useful information which, taken along with that contained in a text-book on practice of medicine, will be a help to them in the study and treatment of sick children. It is meant to act as a preparation for, and introduction to, the larger, standard works on the diseases of children, and not to supersede them. The lectures, out of which the following chapters have grown, were delivered to classes of students and graduates who were attending the clinical teaching of the Children's Hospital. The subject was therefore approached from a purely clinical standpoint, the aim being to afford such in formation as might render the hospital and dispensary work more interesting and instructive. The Student's Guide to Surgical Diagnosis (Classic Reprint) by Christopher Heath Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Guide to Surgical Diagnosis The habit of note-taking is one which must be adopted early in life, if it is to become easy and serviceable, and the briefest note made at the time of seeing a patient is infinitely more valuable than an elaborate record penned hours or days afterwards. How to observe, is an art to be attained only by practice; but what to observe in any given case can be learnt to a certain extent from books, provided the clue to the nature of the case is given to the student. This, it is the object of the following pages to furnish so far as may be; for it must be remembered that though in surgical descriptions the symptoms are ar ranged according to their order of importance and successively, in the living patient they are more or less commingled, masking one another, and requiring care for their dis entanglement.
