The Teacher Monologues by Mindy R. Carter Pdf

This book examines the experiences of four Conservatory style trained actors, who go onto complete teacher education programs. In keeping with a/r/tography this research uses social science methods and creative methods of data collection. Interviews and reflective writing about the participant’s educational and experiential backgrounds are complimented by the writing of monologues. Themes from the data collected during interviews, reflective writing and monologues led to the understandings that: there is a connection between developing consciousness and having a noetic experience; actor-teachers want to talk about their noetic experiences; residue is an a/r/tographic rendering used to describe the way that having an illuminating experience in theatre school affected the participants; and an immanent curriculum can be understood by theatrical engagement. In addition to exploring the interview data and monologues, time is spent understanding the works of Antonin Artaud, a prolific theatre artist and a/r/tography, a method of arts-based research. This theoretical and a/r/tographical investigation leads to the creation of Interludes. These Interludes, theorized as rhizomatic curricular offshoots, allow for multiple entry points into these new understandings and provide an example of how to bring together artful inquiry into an academic arena. Teaching Drama in the Classroom by Joanne Kilgour Dowdy,Sarah Kaplan Pdf

This book includes strategies for integrating drama in the classroom through the use of creating characters, giving meaning to activities through answering the questions: who, what, when, where, and why about any person and situation under discussion (5 W's), using storyboards, incorporating music, writing radio scripts, and using literature and movies as prompts for improvised enactments. Students will learn how to create characters and apply those creations to different content-area activities, situations, and subject matter. This useful resource describes more than thirty-five scenarios of teachers and students in early elementary grades through graduate school working together to craft drama events that draw out participants’ creative energies, interpretations of curricular topics, and investigations of social, political, and personal concerns. In all of these lesson plans, students collectively explore topics, concepts, themes, or tensions that surface as they navigate their way through the conditions and experiences that unfold in a scene, skit, improvisation, or in interrelated episodes. Drama techniques include role play, scripting, dialogue, audience participation, improvisation, and the strategic use of interaction, space, movement, and gesture.

It presents various video studies conducted in the past fifteen years that aimed to describe the practices of teaching. Section II focuses on the use of video in investigating the effects of teaching on student learning. Language Use and Language Learning in CLIL Classrooms by Christiane Dalton-Puffer,Tarja Nikula,Ute Smit Pdf

This volume explores a highly topical issue in second and foreign language education: the spreading practice in mainstream education to teach content subjects through a foreign language. CLIL has been enthusiastically embraced as a language enrichment measure in many contexts and finally research can offer principled insights into its dynamics and potentials. The editors introductory and concluding chapters offer a synthesis of current CLIL research as well as a critical discussion of unresolved issues relating both to theoretical concerns and research practice. The individual contributions by authors from a range of European contexts report on current empirical research in this dynamic field. The focus of these chapters ranges from theoretical to empirical, from learning outcomes to classroom talk, examining both the written and spoken mode across secondary and tertiary educational contexts. This volume is a valuable resource not only for researchers and teachers but also for policy makers."

The Taoist Pedagogy of Pathmarks by Jie Yu Pdf

Based on the intertwined complex conversations among Heidegger, Dewey, and Lao Tzu, this book explores the possibilities of the Taoist Pedagogy of Pathmarks as a clearing between truth and untruth, responding to the spiritual call of Tao as inaction and teaching as releasement. In this book, Yu provides a critical exploration of the rich dynamics in the “direct” conversations among the three great thinkers of east and west, highlighting the implications of their ideas for education throughout. As more educational researchers, teacher educators, and teachers recognize the limitations of didactic teaching-as-telling, the author brings an alternate pathway to light.

My First Monologue Book by Kristen Dabrowski Pdf

Monologues just for kids! Everyday life was never so nutty! Inside My First Monologue Book you'll find 100 imaginative "what if" pieces for would-be princesses, cowboys, robots, and superheroes as well as real-life issues like unfair bedtimes, making new friends, and the horrible taste of broccoli. At this stage in life there are lots of firsts, too, like going to a new school and losing your teeth, so there are plenty of topics for children to connect with. Divided into sections by theme and sprinkled with illustrations, the material in this book is easily incorporated into existing reading curriculum. Often, young children are given work written for older students that is difficult for them to understand and retain. While not dumbed-down, this material is comprehensible, relatable, and fun. ABOUT THE SERIES My First Acting Series introduces children, ages 5 to 9, to the basic elements of acting, directing, and producing a live theatrical performance and, in so doing, teaches kids how to think critically, solve problems, and work cooperatively with their peers. This groundbreaking new series is for truly beginning actors, designed to incorporate theater and its benefits into children's lives at a young age by giving teachers and parents an accessible and applicable series with which to supplement their children's reading or social studies curriculum in a fun and interactive way. Each book builds on the one before it, so skills grow as students grow. A better alternative to Reader's Theater, My First Acting Series is written by professional playwrights, and sufficiently engages children, encourages them to cooperate, and develops their creative expression. Within this series, the Latino/English Collection is designed to support K-3 classes that include students whose first language, or language most frequently spoken at home, is Spanish. M. Ramirez has written accessible material that weaves commonly used Latino words and idioms into essentially English material. This Latino flavor breaks down language barriers and allows Latino kids to focus on the work at hand --learning to act -- while progressing in sync with schoolmates who are more comfortable with commonly available dramatic material.
