The Therapeutics of the Respiratory Passages (Classic Reprint) by Prosser James Pdf

Excerpt from The Therapeutics of the Respiratory Passages This book is not intended as a manual for students - it is hoped, indeed, that senior students as well as practitioners may peruse it with profit - but it is mainly intended for those who have left the schools and entered upon the responsibilities of practice. Such readers, having no longer the fear of examiners before them, may be interested in points upon which they would not otherwise dare to spend their time. No doubt many faults will be found by critical readers, but not more than those of which the writer is sufficiently conscious. Some portions may be found too diffuse, others too condensed, and those who only refer to a question here and there may fail to see the connection between them, or perhaps to find that which they seek. Those who read the book through will not fail to discover the thread on which I have strung my beads - observe, I do not call them pearls. But as few may do this, it may not be amiss to say that there is a distinct purpose in the work, and it is with "malice aforethought" that some portions have been so extended and others so contracted. Such as it is I commit this production to the candid consideration of my professional brethren, who have heretofore received my writings with so much favor. Therapeutics of the Respiratory System by M. W. Van Denburg Pdf

Excerpt from Therapeutics of the Respiratory System: Cough and Coryza, Acute and Chronic; Repertory With Index, Materia Medica With Index The primary objects of this book are to save time and to render the work of the physician more efficient. It saves time by bringing together all the drugs applicable to a given case; it renders the work of the therapeutist more efficient by enabling him to select with greater precision the drug he will use. The foundation of the Materia Medica herein set forth is Hering's Guiding Symptoms, the entire ten volumes of which have been carefully consulted from cover to cover, _ and the most prominent, striking and peculiar symptoms noted, as well as those that most strongly and clearly indicate the drug. The following paragraphs in Hering's Guiding Symptoms have been carefully reviewed. No. 1, Mind; No. 7, Nose; No. 12, Mouth; No. 13, Palate and Throat; No. 25, Larynx and Bronchi; No. 26, Respiration; No. 27, Cough; No. 28, Inner Chest and Lungs; No. 29, Heart, Pulse, and Circulation. By consulting these sections one will see how much labor was necessary to condense and choose. This may not always have been done with the best judgment; but if anyone will try his hand on one full drug, he will have a better basis for judging of the work as a whole. Severe Asthma by Kian Fan Chung,Elliot Israel,Peter G. Gibson Pdf

Severe asthma is a form of asthma that responds poorly to currently available medication, and its patients represent those with greatest unmet needs. In the last 10 years, substantial progress has been made in terms of understanding some of the mechanisms that drive severe asthma; there have also been concomitant advances in the recognition of specific molecular phenotypes. This ERS Monograph covers all aspects of severe asthma – epidemiology, diagnosis, mechanisms, treatment and management – but has a particular focus on recent understanding of mechanistic heterogeneity based on an analytic approach using various ‘omics platforms applied to clinically well-defined asthma cohorts. How these advances have led to improved management targets is also emphasised. This book brings together the clinical and scientific expertise of those from around the world who are collaborating to solve the problem of severe asthma.

How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease by Anonim Pdf

This report considers the biological and behavioral mechanisms that may underlie the pathogenicity of tobacco smoke. Many Surgeon General's reports have considered research findings on mechanisms in assessing the biological plausibility of associations observed in epidemiologic studies. Mechanisms of disease are important because they may provide plausibility, which is one of the guideline criteria for assessing evidence on causation. This report specifically reviews the evidence on the potential mechanisms by which smoking causes diseases and considers whether a mechanism is likely to be operative in the production of human disease by tobacco smoke. This evidence is relevant to understanding how smoking causes disease, to identifying those who may be particularly susceptible, and to assessing the potential risks of tobacco products.
