Guide to Spain Portugal by Henry O'Shea Pdf

Excerpt from Guide to Spain Portugal: Including the Balearic Islands Although it is not yet four years since the Seventh Edition was issued, O'Shea's Guide to Spain and Portugal has once more been thoroughly revised upon the spot, and from the latest official information. Beyond the extensive and necessary corrections thus made, the chief alterations which I have introduced consist (1) in a recasting of considerable portions of the Introduction, such as the chapters upon Language and Literature, in order to make these short, and it is to be hoped useful, essays really worthy of their purpose, and of a high-class handbook; (2) in the careful revision of the lists of books of reference, and the inclusion therein of the chief literary and scientific works of the last ten years. I have again to record my belief that the Peninsula has a great future before it, not only politically and commercially, but also as one of the favoured European playgrounds. The face of the country is rapidly changing, with the spread of its railway system, its commercial development, and the beneficent influence of a stable Government; and nearly every place or object of interest can now be visited with ease, and in security and comfort. One outcome of this constant change in the direction of improvement is an extreme difficulty in keeping a Guide Book accurate up to date in such details as hotels, routes, conveyances, etc.; and I shall therefore value all information which travellers may be pleased to address to me, under cover to the publishers. Excerpt from A Family Tour Round the Coasts of Spain and Portugal: During the Winter of 1860-1861 Having determined to spend the winter in the south of Europe, after many interesting debates and conversations we decided that the south of Spain should be our destination. We had pre viously spent several winters at Nice and its neighbourhood, and we saw by the railway guides that it was now as easy to reach Barcelona by Perpignan as to go to Nice by Toulon. The Tourist in Portugal (Classic Reprint) by W. H. Harrison Pdf

Excerpt from The Tourist in Portugal A few Legends, based on facts, have been inter spersed throughout the volume; but as the Author does not pledge himself for the accuracy of the details, he has distinguished those portions of the work from the authentic matter, by heading them in the old Eng lish character. Thus, it is hoped, that while offering attractions to the lovers of light literature, the volume will possess somewhat of the permanent value of a standard work. Winter Tour in Spain (Classic Reprint) by H. Pemberton Pdf

Excerpt from Winter Tour in Spain There are but two classes of travellers to be met with in Spain; those who go there for climate, and those who go for pleasure, and even of these the number is very limited. None flock here, as they do to most other European countries, for education or economy; these are two objects as yet unattainable. Neither invalids nor tourists, however, will be disappointed, for they will each meet with what they seek. The climate in the south and along the east coast of Spain is magnificent; the scenery and objects of interest throughout the country must fulfil the expectations of all. But climate is not everything to those who, on account of health, are driven from their own country, though it may appear to be, and is, the main object. There are many drawbacks to contend with in encountering a winter in Spain. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
