This book provides easy to follow guidance on how to manage emergency situations and common problems in obstetric anesthesia. The book provides different anesthetic recipes for obstetric procedures and describes challenges that will be encountered on a day-to-day basis. There are trouble-shooting chapters and ‘what to do lists’ for frequent dilemmas. The book covers obstetric-specific resuscitation and medical emergencies seen on the labor ward. Antenatal and postpartum complications relating to anesthesia are covered as well as issues that may arise during follow up of patients who have had neuraxial anesthesia during delivery. Quick Hits in Obstetric Anesthesia should be used as a cognitive aid for emergency cases and as a decision-making tool for urgent management plans. It is a guide to common problems and provides core knowledge to facilitate anesthesia care on labor wards for all grades of anesthetist.

Not illustrated. 1858 edition. Excerpt: ... appendix vi. extensive spreading of placenta; loss of maternal blood not involving anaemia of child; child dies of asphyxia. Case 68.--Illustrating almost universal spreading of placenta over uterus; flooding; death before delivery;. mother blanched; child full of blood.--(This case is referred to in Lecture I. It was originally published in my Memoir of 1847.) Case 69.--" Implantation of placenta over os internum, and to more than three-fourths of the whole superficies of the uterus; profuse haemorrhage; death before delivery; post-mortem examination.--Jane B, forty-one, has had eleven children, of which two were born dead; in her latter pregnancies has had flooding before delivery. August 14th, 1846, was in labour with her twelfth child, under the care of an unusually ignorant and obstinate midwife. From what could be gathered of the history, it appeared that pains came on at seven, P.M., of the 13th; flooding recurred at intervals during the night. At a quarter to six, A.M., on the 14th, she sank. Mr. Frost, of Nottinghill, was sent for in time to find her dead when he arrived. I assisted at the post-mortem examination. The woman was stout and well-developed. The skin was waxen and straw-yellow; the conjunctiva quite blanched. Examination per vaginam.--Os uteri was found dilated; placenta felt plugging up orifice completely. The presenting part of the child could not be felt. Brain.--A small quantity of blood in the sinuses; vascularity of membranes appeared normal; on incising

Gynecologic and obstetric surgery is a craft that requires sound knowledge and skills. The specifics of each individual case must be understood to enable the best surgical management approach and to minimize complications. This resource book offers insightful management options to many of the challenges a gynecologic or obstetric surgeon may face before, during and after an operation. Divided into two sections, the book first covers general preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative challenges and, second, specific surgical procedures. It provides advice on both general gynecologic and obstetric operations, as well as subspecialist areas such as reproductive surgery, urogynecology and gynecologic oncology. The chapters are concise, beginning with illustrative case histories followed by background, management options, and any preventative approaches. Designed to guide the surgeon to safe practice throughout all stages, they offer practical and step-by-step help.

Placenta Accreta Syndrome by Robert Silver Pdf
Placenta accreta comprises a spectrum of disorders where all or part of the placenta becomes attached to the muscular wall of the uterus, which can result in life-threatening hemorrhage at the time of delivery. Previous surgical procedures (including cesarean delivery) and placenta previa are important risk factors, and the incidence is dramatically increasing. This important practical guide to how clinicians should diagnose and manage placenta accreta will be an invaluable reference for all obstetricians and maternal-fetal specialists.

Excerpt from The Physiology and Treatment of Placenta Praevia: Being the Lettsomian Lectures on Midwifery for 1857 I thought it necessary to burden a purely scientific and practical treatise with controversial criticisms. The decision as to whom belongs the merit of priority, will be settled by a simple reference to chronology. Literal. Scmlpta. Vita/net.
