The Untied States of America by Juan Enriquez Pdf

Can a country be like a marriage that has run out of cash and steam, resulting in the inevitable frank discussions about just who is pulling his or her own weight? Eventually, even those who love each other sometimes conclude they cannot stay together. Juan Enriquez’s unique insights into the financial, political, and cultural issues we face will provoke shock and surprise and lead you to ask the question no one has yet put on the table: Could “becoming untied” ever happen here? It’s a question made especially relevant when we are faced with such unpromising facts as: • At no other time have we had the unwelcome convergence in which the three key sectors of business, government, and consumers are so tapped out due to debt that each lacks the financial wherewithal to come to the rescue of the others. • Most assets are not being used for productive purposes but for speculation, resulting in people lacking incentives to create real wealth, focusing instead on buying, selling, and flipping real estate. • As religion starts to mix with politics, we have a culture that allows us to fall behind what were previously third world nations, because we are now treating science the way we did sex in the 1950s, banning or burying evolution theories and research into promising lifesaving areas such as stem-cell research. When the enemy was outside—for example, the threat perceived when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik and people feared America would lose the brain race—we rallied. Now the enemy is within, and we polarize. Defaming the legitimacy of people on the “other” side becomes the currency of the day, where people in blue states are seen as godless liberal elitists and those in red states are seen as, well, rednecks. Citizenship, Enriquez says, is like buying into a national brand. If the brand promises one thing and delivers another, could it then have the same fate as a tired product on a supermarket shelf, eroding, losing support, even disappearing? Countries, even one as powerful and successful as America, live on fault lines. When a fault line splits, it’s near impossible to put things back together again. What America will look like in fifty years depends on what we do today to act on the issues raised in The Untied States of America. Also available as an eBook

The Untied Stats On American by William Carroll, Ph. D. Pdf

People can write the most nonsensical things, and now they have computer technology to help them create linguistic lunacies. If a hundred chimpanzees were seated at computer keyboards, they would have difficulty matching the ridiculous stuff turned out by human hands and minds with the assistance of their reliable "smart machines". The Untied Stats on American: And Other Computer Assisted Writing Errors takes playful yet serious swipes at some of the misleading, erroneous, and just plain hilarious things that get past careless proofreaders and their trusty spelling checkers. Author William Carroll illustrates what can happen to the written word when oblivious proofreaders allow their computers to do their proofreading and editing. "Caress" drivers, or maybe even "carless" ones, who believe sex education should be taught in "pubic" schools, even those with "Cadillacs" on their eyes and symptoms of "old-timers" disease can learn something of value from Carroll's The Untied Stats on American. Nonetheless, they should all be careful not to "wine up laughing they're assets off wile their during it." The real intention of this tasty treatise is to make computer users more aware of the critical need for proofreading while keeping their brains in gear. Artificial intelligence is no replacement for the human mind, the most efficient computer imaginable.

The Untied States of America: A Thinkable Alternative to Civil War II by Fred Kilbourne Pdf

UPDATED AND REVISED JULY 2019 The United States is coming apart at the seams. Hostilities between the parties to the national debate, substantially over the proper role of the federal government, are largely verbal rather than violent, but so they were before Fort Sumter was fired upon. The national debate is growing increasingly hostile, and a second Civil War at some time in our future cannot be ruled out. We are no longer united as a people, but rather are divided into two warring camps, labeled roughly as Democrats and Republicans. We are dispersed throughout the land, it is true, but we also are clustered by region, as clearly shown by the Presidential election results of the early 21st Century, and by the map on the cover of this book. It is time to consider the possibility that these united states should be untied, in order that we may live as civil neighbors, rather than fractiously under one roof pretending to be a family. There is another divide in the country that has not been bridged, in spite of many efforts, and that many say is growing deeper and wider. The legacy of slavery and racism and segregation has left many (though certainly not all, and perhaps not most) African-Americans disaffected and unhappy with the country in which they find themselves. The reparations proposal presented in this book may provide the means for voluntary separation of these reluctant citizens into a new land of true self-determination. It is a dramatic and even drastic proposal, to be sure, but a wound that never heals eventually is fatal.

America in the United States and the United States in America by Gabriel Moran Pdf

America is five hundred years old; the United States is less than half that age. The term America was coined in 1507 to refer to a continent and a dream of a new world. People in the United States, especially government leaders, have a serious problem of regularly speaking as if their country were America. Author Gabriel Moran reflects on the use of the word America in the United States from its beginning to the present. He cites numerous examples to show the importance of distinguishing between the United States and America. The result is a different way of perceiving and understanding the history of the United States. This book is especially relevant to the current political division within the United States and some of the missteps in its foreign policy. The failure to consistently distinguish between the nation of the United States and the continent and dream America underlies nearly every political, cultural and economic problem that the country faces.
