The Walk of the Cross by Robert Makrush Pdf

The “Walk of the Cross” is a Lenten study designed to help Christians search their hearts and souls as well as rededicate themselves to be faithful Disciples of Christ. It is a daily devotional which examines fundamental Biblical beliefs in context with several scriptures each day. Daily readings are followed by questions for reflection and journaling. Jesus used this method of rabbinic teaching when he asked questions of His disciples such as “Who do you say (believe) I am?”, “Why do you call me good?”, or “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God?”. Journaling, scripture reading, and Spirit-led prayers form the foundation of this personal study as we consider what we really believe concerning issues such as God’s calling, grace, salvation, sanctification, and regeneration. The process allows the Holy Spirit to confront false beliefs as well as alleviate areas of doubt in our faith. As for those that may be asking what difference it makes how one believes, professionals have long known that our beliefs, especially those concerning morals, ethics, and religion control how we think, feel and behave. Our beliefs do this by coming together to form attitudes and prejudices concerning who we are and the world around us. Because our belief systems work with a high degree of automation, they can be easily influenced and even corrupted by the culture of the world. Therefore, we should always actively consider what and how we believe under the guidance of the Spirit. Christians have traditionally used the forty days prior to Easter, known as Lent, as a time to rededicate ourselves to the imitation of Christ. Some of us abstain from pleasurable things such as chocolate or TV in an attempt to purify ourselves from worldly desires. Others prefer to add some additional religious aspect to our lives like a Lenten devotional, additional prayer time, or some worthy church social function. Whether we abstain or add, there is a conscious effort to revive our Christian discipleship by identifying with Christ’s teaching and journey of passion for our salvation. Doing these activities in small groups makes this also a time to renew fellowship within church.

This seasonal companion provides the sequence of fifteen meditations appears in full, including opening and concluding prayers. Each is accompanied by three short reflections from different perspectives by three of today's very best spiritual writers: - Paula Gooder offers reflections on the scriptural narratives; - Stephen Cottrell considers the story from the perspective of personal discipleship; - Philip North explores the story's challenge to mission and witness.

A thoughtful meditation on the Stations of the Cross for followers who want a deeper understanding of the Passion and the meaning of Easter. With a helpful map, illustrations. Every Friday in Jerusalem, Franciscan monks take groups of pilgrims down the Via Dolorosa, the road Christ may have walked on his way to the cross. Stopping at each of fourteen locations that mark events in the final days of Christ’s life, the pilgrims recall the Passion story and offer prayers for the world. In A Walk in Jerusalem, The Rev. Canon John L. Peterson, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, brings new life to this centuries-old ritual known as the Stations of the Cross. Illustrated with a map, 14 black-and-white photographs, and 14 pen-and-ink drawings, this helpful guide provides the appropriate episode of the Passion story along with a meditation and brief liturgy that apply that story to today’s world. Designed for use on Good Friday or general devotions, A Walk in Jerusalem offers new insight into the Passion Narratives and encouragement to live as Christ taught. “A very moving presentation of the Way of the Cross.”―Religious Resources International

Walking the Way of Sorrows by Katerina Katsarka Whitley Pdf

Fourteen original woodcut designs depicting the Stations of the Cross, with accompanying monologue, that inspire meaningful meditation about faith for Lent and throughout the year. Each year on Good Friday, Christian congregations all over the world walk the Stations of the Cross, a commemoration of Jesus' walk to Calvary. In Walking the Way of Sorrows, artist Noyes Capehart and writer/journalist Katerina Whitley provide a fresh resource for congregations and individuals who want to explore the meaning of these Stations more deeply. Capehart's stark and powerful block cuts of the fourteen Stations are accompanied by monologues from the point of view of someone at each station. These monologues, along with biblical references and a brief liturgy, are excellent for individual devotion, but can also be used by groups who walk the Stations together.

Walking to Listen by Andrew Forsthoefel Pdf

A memoir of one young man's coming of age on a journey across America--told through the stories of the people of all ages, races, and inclinations he meets along the way. Life is fast, and I've found it's easy to confuse the miraculous for the mundane, so I'm slowing down, way down, in order to give my full presence to the extraordinary that infuses each moment and resides in every one of us. At 23, Andrew Forsthoefel headed out the back door of his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with a backpack, an audio recorder, his copies of Whitman and Rilke, and a sign that read "Walking to Listen." He had just graduated from Middlebury College and was ready to begin his adult life, but he didn't know how. So he decided to take a cross-country quest for guidance, one where everyone he met would be his guide. In the year that followed, he faced an Appalachian winter and a Mojave summer. He met beasts inside: fear, loneliness, doubt. But he also encountered incredible kindness from strangers. Thousands shared their stories with him, sometimes confiding their prejudices, too. Often he didn't know how to respond. How to find unity in diversity? How to stay connected, even as fear works to tear us apart? He listened for answers to these questions, and to the existential questions every human must face, and began to find that the answer might be in listening itself. Ultimately, it's the stories of others living all along the roads of America that carry this journey and sing out in a hopeful, heartfelt book about how a life is made, and how our nation defines itself on the most human level.

Into The Cross-Walk by Mark Chauvin Pdf

In these pages you will find the story of my life, an average shmuck who's looking for that special formula to make life meaningful. In a very haphazard way, I explored the different avenues to fulfillment, or perhaps more exactly, I willingly responded to the blow of the wind. It cost me several years of my life, my only chance at education, my relationship with my parents and my formerly acute senses, but it is my belief that God himself had a plan for my life, and I was just thick-sculled enough to need those times to learn how wrong my choices could be. In the end, He directed me to Himself, and I've never been the same since...

Cross + Walk by Ron Mahler Pdf

As nations reel as a result of global controversies and uncertainties, and as we totter on the precipice of the "Great Tribulation" and eternity, claiming allegiance to Jesus Christ is becoming increasingly costly. In Cross+Walk, Ron Mahler delves deep into Jesus' teachings to discuss what being His disciple meant from a first-century perspective and applies those findings in real time. With punctuating language and modern verbiage, and an urgency that matches the social, political, and spiritual climate of our day, this book poses that although taking up one's cross daily can lead to formidable challenges and unavoidable trials, such a life is the best life we can live, and the only one that will ultimately yield everlasting rewards. Until we reach our glorious and unfathomable eternal destination, an adventurous journey along a narrow road awaits each disciple of Christ. Get ready to walk it like you never have before!
