Imagining Transmedia by Ed Finn,Bob Beard,Joey Eschrich,Ruth Wylie Pdf

How the blurring of media forms—transmedia—became the default for how we experience narratives, and how that cultural transformation has redefined the worlds of education, entertainment, and our increasingly polarized public discourse. Over the past decade, the power of narrative has been unleashed with awesome and terrifying consequences, and it has been consumed in its blurred media forms by millions of people as news, entertainment, and education. Imagining Transmedia, edited by Ed Finn, Bob Beard, Joey Eschrich, and Ruth Wylie, explores the surprising ways that narratives working across media forms became the default grammar for both media consumption and personal expression and how multiplatform storytelling creates new media literacies and modes of civil discourse. Understanding this shift reveals transmedia as an essential building block of media literacy today. Transmedia is how we create, interpret, and participate in our increasingly mediated society. It extends beyond popular culture into professional and public spheres while, at the same time, it fuels the misinformation and polarization that have contributed to America’s fraying civic discourse. Reaching beyond traditional academic analyses, this probing collection of essays and conversations features transmedia practitioners sharing their experiences and inviting readers to imagine the types of multimodal stories and experiences they might create. Prioritizing conversation over a single unified theory, each section of this volume pairs thematically linked essays from international contributors with a dialogue between authors to create an accessible, practical synthesis of ideas.

The Walking Dead at Saqqara by Lara Weiss Pdf

Funerary rituals and the cult of the dead are classics of research in religious studies, especially for ancient Egypt. Still, we know relatively little about how people interacted in daily life at the city of Memphis and its Saqqara necropolis in the late second millennium BCE. By focussing on lived ancient religion, we can see that the social and religious strategies employed by the individuals at Saqqara are not just means on the way to religious, post-mortem salvation, nor is their self-representation simply intended to manifest social status. On the contrary, the religious practices at Saqqara show in their complex spatiality a wide spectrum of options to configure sociality before and after one's own death. The analytical distinction between religion and other forms of human practices and sociality illuminates the range of cultural practices and how people selected, modified, or even avoided certain religious practices. As a result, pre-funerary, funerary and practices of the subsequent mortuary cults, in close connection with religious practices directed towards other ancestors and deities, allow the formation of imagined and functioning reminiscence clusters as central social groups at Saqqara, creating a heuristic model applicable also to other contexts.

Zombiescapes and Phantom Zones by Lee Rozelle Pdf

A study of the natural world as imagined by contemporary writers, specifically their portrayals of nature as monster In Zombiescapes and Phantom Zones: Ecocriticism and the Liminal from “Invisible Man” to “The Walking Dead,” Lee Rozelle chronicles the weirdest, ugliest, and most mixed-up characters to appear on the literary scene since World War II—creatures intimately linked to damaged habitats that rise from the muck, not to destroy or rule the world, but to save it. The book asks what happens to these landscapes after the madness, havoc, and destruction. What monsters and magic surface then? Rozelle argues that zombiescapes and phantom zones depicted in the book become catalysts for environmental reanimation and sources of hope. Liminality offers exciting and useful new ways to conceptualize places that have historically proven troublesome, unwieldy, or hard to define. Zombiescapes can reduce the effects of pollution, promote environmental justice, lessen economic disparity, and localize food production. The grotesques that ooze and crawl from these passages challenge readers to consider new ways to re-inhabit broken lands at a time when energy efficiency, fracking, climate change, the Pacific trade agreement, local food production, and sustainability shape the intellectual landscape. Rozelle focuses on literary works from 1950 to 2015—the zombiescapes and monsterscapes of post–World War II literature—that portray in troubling and often devastating ways the “brownfields” that have been divested of much of their biodiversity and ecological viability. However, he also highlights how these literary works suggest a new life and new potential for such environments. With an unlikely focus on places of ruination and an application of interdisciplinary, transnational approaches to a range of fields and texts, Rozelle advances the notion that places of distortion might become a nexus where revelation and advocacy are possible again. Zombiescapes and Phantom Zones has much to offer to various fields of scholarship, including literary studies, ecocriticism, and environmental studies. Research, academic, and undergraduate audiences will be captivated by Rozelle’s lively prose and unique anthropological, ecocritical, and literary analyses.

Cosby by Ronald L. Smith Pdf

This work is about strategies American companies should use when doing business with China. It demonstrates the benefits of co-operation, such as the path-breaking 2005 deal between IBM's consumer computer division and China's Legend, resulting in the creation of China's Lenovo Computer Company. The authors review other examples of US-Chinese joint ventures and present new strategies for how American and Chinese firms can work together in areas and ways that are presently untapped. Chinese companies are moving into position now to quickly emerge as giant multinationals that displace or acquire Fortune 1000 companies sooner than many anticipate. That is why this is such an important and compelling work that will become a "must read" for corporate executives concerned about their existing and future business in China. A western company without a carefully laid out "China Strategy" will find it increasingly difficult to remain profitable in other markets. And the "China Strategies" of most American companies have not been as successful as "China's Strategy" of dealing with its competitors. So, how can a foreign company profit from China's emerging global economic dominance? Western companies and governments that focus on strategies that fulfil the needs of China and Chinese trading partners, will have advantages over their competitors who do not. This controversial book reveals the key fallacies American political and business leaders face in the relationship between American and Chinese styles of capitalism and government. Collaborating profitably with emerging, giant, global Chinese corporations may be a more rewarding strategy than ignoring them or trying to compete with them. This title's new win-win strategic approach is the only alternative to America and China remaining competitors and slipping into trade war, Cold War, armed conflict and ecological catastrophe. These related books provide the urgently needed new perspectives and blueprints necessary to build the global strategic partnerships and shared prosperity between American and Chinese companies.
