The Families of Northern Moore County - Abstract of Miscellaneous and Rare Records by Morgan Jackson Pdf

Moore County, NC has long been a challenging place to do genealogical research, even more so if your family lived in Northern Moore County. Due to the immense loss of records in the 1889 Moore County courthouse fire combined with Northern Moore's large mix of Scotch-Irish, German, Swiss, English and other settlers who often kept to themselves and left very little evidence behind - genealogical and historical research on these families generally leaves researchers with no shortage of dead ends, brick walls and ancestors who disappear into genealogical black holes. With this series, Morgan Jackson (www.MooreCountyWallaces.com) seeks to shine a light on these families and piece together the records that survived the fire and the test of time. Utilizing over thirty years of personal research and a multitude of information from numerous sources, he abstracts rare and hard to find land grants, deeds, church records, school records, wills, estates, tax lists, pension records, family bibles, newspaper accounts and court records. This second volume abstracts thousands of these records in a timeline format dating from 1831-1929 including several hundred images and hard to find maps. A full name index includes over 11,000 individuals and over 900 place names.

When Scotland Was Jewish by Elizabeth Caldwell Hirschman,Donald N. Yates Pdf

The popular image of Scotland is dominated by widely recognized elements of Celtic culture. But a significant non–Celtic influence on Scotland’s history has been largely ignored for centuries? This book argues that much of Scotland’s history and culture from 1100 forward is Jewish. The authors provide evidence that many of the national heroes, villains, rulers, nobles, traders, merchants, bishops, guild members, burgesses, and ministers of Scotland were of Jewish descent, their ancestors originating in France and Spain. Much of the traditional historical account of Scotland, it is proposed, rests on fundamental interpretive errors, perpetuated in order to affirm Scotland’s identity as a Celtic, Christian society. A more accurate and profound understanding of Scottish history has thus been buried. The authors’ wide-ranging research includes examination of census records, archaeological artifacts, castle carvings, cemetery inscriptions, religious seals, coinage, burgess and guild member rolls, noble genealogies, family crests, portraiture, and geographic place names.

The History of Mecklenburg County from 1740 to 1900 by John Brevard Alexander Pdf

The author spent much time and took great pains in looking up the early history of Mecklenburg, and left no stone unturned that might throw light on the character of those early patriots, who risked everything to establish independence. This was indeed a bold act, to sever all relations with the mother country, knowing that not to succeed, meant death on the gallows. The Rubicon was crossed, and they could not go back. Patriots of the county held many meetings and debated the question earnestly before the final meeting in Charlotte on the 19th and 20th of May, 1775. All the costs were counted, and each one knew what the consequences would be if they should fail. They were in desperate straits — either to live as slaves and submit to all the indignities of a subjudicated province, or make a declaration of independence, maintain their freedom by force of arms, trusting in the God of right. This last resolve was adopted, success was achieved, and Mecklenburg occupied the foremost place for patriotism in all this mighty continent. Strangle that a history of so remarkable a country should have been neglected so long, and only here and there a fugitive piece has been preserved; many things of note were enacted by patriots more than a century ago that are now faded from memory, that should have been preserved by those who lived at that time. It has been characteristic of North Carolinians to make history, but not to write it.

Scotch Irish Pioneers in Ulster and America by Charles Knowles Bolton Pdf

This is a study of the emigration from Northern Ireland of persons of Scottish and English descent. Chapters are devoted to the Scotch-Irish settlements in Pennsylvania, Maryland, South Carolina, and Massachusetts and include valuable lists of early pioneers. In addition, considerable space is devoted to the redoubtable settlers of Londonderry, New Hampshire. The book's extensive appendices contain lists of great genealogical importance, including (1) petitioners for transport from Northern Ireland (1718); (2) hometowns of Ulster families, with names of the Scotch-Irish in New England from presbytery and synod records (1691-1718); (3) members of the Charitable Irish Society in Boston (1737-1743); (4) names of fathers in the Presbyterian baptismal records in Boston (1730-1736); and (5) names of ships carrying passengers from Ireland to New England (1714-1720). Biographical information, which is to be met with throughout the volume, is rendered instantly accessible by reference to the formidable index.

The History of Mecklenburg County [Nc] by J. B. Alexander Pdf

Williams and McKinsey's monumental History of Frederick County, Maryland is also the repository for 1,100 genealogical and biographical sketches of West Maryland luminaries and their families. For all its magnificence, this work has a major shortcoming--it lacks an every-name index. Now, thanks to the prodigious efforts of Patricia A. Fogle, there is a complete name index to Williams and McKinsey's History of Frederick County, Maryland. Like the work it is based upon, the index is divided into two parts. The index to Volume I (the historical narrative) takes up the first third of Mrs. Fogle's effort, while the remaining two-thirds cover the genealogical sketches in Volume II. All told, the researcher will find more than 40,000 individuals named in this index.
