Though Blackwood wrote a number of horror stories, his most typical work seeks less to frighten than to induce a sense of awe. Good examples are the novels The Centaur, which climaxes with a traveler's sight of a herd of the mythical creatures; and Julius LeVallon and its sequel The Bright Messenger, which deal with reincarnation and the possibility of a new, mystical evolution in human consciousness.

The Damned (Unabridged) by Algernon Blackwood Pdf

This carefully crafted ebook: "The Damned (Unabridged)” is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Algernon Blackwood (1869-1951) was an English short story writer and novelist, one of the most prolific writers of ghost stories in the history of the genre. Blackwood wrote a number of horror stories. His most work seeks less to frighten than to induce a sense of awe. Excerpt: "Certain things, however, gradually then became apparent, forcing themselves upon me. They came slowly, but overwhelmingly. Not that facts had changed, or natural details altered in the grounds—this was impossible—but that I noticed for the first time various aspects I had not noticed before—trivial enough, yet for me, just then, significant. Some I remembered from previous days; others I saw now as I wandered to and fro, uneasy, uncomfortable,—almost, it seemed, watched by some one who took note of my impressions. The details were so foolish, the total result so formidable. I was half aware that others tried hard to make me see. It was deliberate. My sister's phrase, 'one layer got at me, another gets at you,' flashed, undesired, upon me.”

How is this book unique? Font adjustments & biography included Unabridged (100% Original content) Illustrated About The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood The Wendigo is a novella by Algernon Blackwood, first published in The Lost Valley and Other Stories. Plot Summary: In the wilderness north of Rat Portage in Northwestern Ontario, two Scotsmen - divinity student Simpson and his uncle, Dr. Cathcart, an author of a book on collective hallucination - are on a moose-hunting trip with guides Hank Davis and the wilderness-loving French "Canuck", Joseph Dfago. While their Indian cook, Punk, stays to tend the main camp, the others split up into two hunting-parties; Dr. Cathcart goes with Hank, while Dfago guides Simpson in a canoe down the river to explore the vast territory beyond. Simpson and Dfago make camp, and it soon becomes clear that Dfago senses - or thinks he senses - some strange and fearful odour on the wind. That night, Simpson wakes to find Dfago cowering in terror from something outside the tent. Later Dfago runs off into the night, forcing Simpson to go and look for him. He follows his footprints in the snow for many miles, realising that Dfago's are not the only set of tracks. The larger set of footprints are not human, and gradually it seems that Dfago's own tracks have metamorphosed into smaller versions of the larger set. Eventually, both sets of tracks vanish, and Simpson thinks he hears Dfago's distant voice calling out from somewhere in the sky above. Simpson finally manages to make his way back to the main camp where he is reunited with the others. Dr. Cathcart and Hank go back with him to search for Dfago, and when camping once more out in the wilderness, Dfago - or some hideous parody of Dfago - appears before them before vanishing once again into the night.

The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey Pdf

Flesh-eating danger abounds in the chilling sequel to The Monstrumologist that is “as fast-paced, elegant, and yes, gruesome as its predecessor” (Publishers Weekly, starred review). While Dr. Warthrop is attempting to disprove that Homo vampiris, the vampire, could exist, his former fiancée asks him to save her husband, who has been captured by a Wendigo—a creature that starves even as it gorges itself on human flesh. Although Dr. Warthrop considers the Wendigo to be fictitious, he relents and performs the rescue—but is he right to doubt the Wendigo’s existence? Can the doctor and Will Henry hunt down the ultimate predator, who, like the legendary vampire, is neither living nor dead, and whose hunger for human flesh is never satisfied? This second book in The Monstrumologist series explores the line between myth and reality, love and hate, genius and madness.

The Warden Series (Books 1 - 3) by Kevin Hardman Pdf

Get the first three books in the Warden Series at a steep discount! __________ WARDEN (BOOK 1: WENDIGO FEVER) Part lawman, part tracker and part magician, the Wardens are monster-hunters - tasked with protecting the people from the various, nightmarish creatures that have invaded the world of men. However, despite being descended from a long line of Wardens, 16-year-old Errol Magnus believes it to be the absolute worst job on the planet: How could a single occupation simultaneously be the most boring, abominably stupid and extraordinarily dangerous profession imaginable? But when his older brother Tom - the current Warden for their region - goes missing, Errol has no choice but to enter the Badlands, where monsters abide in mind-boggling numbers, to find him. During his search, Errol crosses paths with - and finds himself stalked by - the legendary Wendigo, a monster with preternatural strength and speed, as well as enhanced senses of sight, smell and hearing…and an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Now Errol must do the impossible and not only escape from the monster (something no one has ever done before), but also avoid the unearthly legacy it leaves on all its victims - a terrifying curse known as Wendigo Fever. __________ WARDEN (BOOK 2: LURE OF THE LAMIA) Despite his personal dislike for the job, Errol Magnus has faithfully carried out the daunting (and singularly dangerous) duties of Warden for their region in place of his missing brother Tom. Truth be told, despite his reluctance in accepting the role, there is no one better suited for it in terms of knowledge, training and skill. Arriving home after an extended sojourn in the Badlands, where monsters are as common as blades of grass, Errol longs for just a single day to pass that doesn’t require him to put his life in danger. His desire for a respite, however, is complicated by two things: the arrival of a mysterious troupe of performers - and the appearance of a bloodthirsty creature that kills its victims in a horribly gruesome fashion. Now Errol must determine what connection - if any - exists between the troupe and the killings, as well as find a way to stop the monster before the body count goes any higher. __________ WARDEN (BOOK 3: ATTACK OF THE ASWANG) For most of his life, 16-year-old Errol Magnus categorically rejected the idea of being a Warden. Growing up right next to the Badlands, he encountered enough bloodthirsty monsters in the ordinary course of events; he’d never seen much sense in assuming a post that required you to actively seek them out. Recently, however, while competently and capably serving as Warden on behalf of his missing brother Tom, Errol’s had a change of heart. Now, for reasons of his own, he desperately wants the position. Unfortunately, being officially appointed Warden not only requires that Errol’s skills be tested by his peers, but that he also make a perilous journey to the city of Apolos in order to be examined by the High Warden himself. Traveling with a group of colleagues, Errol thinks all danger is behind them once they reach the safety of the city. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Something has followed them out of the Badlands, and - one by one - his traveling companions are being viciously slain by something…inhuman. It’s up to Errol to find the creature and bring its killing spree to a halt, before he himself winds up the next victim. teen, young adult, fantasy, coming of age, horror, paranormal, supernatural, romance, legends, myths, fables, monsters, aswang, homunculus, magic, mystery, YA, wendigo, zombie, lamia, nymph, basilisk, sorcery, roc, revenant, golem
