Including contributions from a range of international researchers, each chapter provides a review of the relevant literature, key theories, real-world examples, and reflections on how knowledge can be applied in practice. Split into four sections, the book covers a diverse range of topics relevant not only to coaching and performance but also to personality development and health promotion. Research into Talent Development in Youth Sports by Carlos Eduardo Gonçalves,Humberto M. Carvalho,Arne Güllich Pdf

The last decade witnessed a plethora of literature about talent identification and talent development. Most of the research is descriptive. In addition, an enormous quantity of publications attempted to define normative guidelines, but mostly with relatively little empirical evidence to support them. We believe it is time to overview the field, critically appraise the situation of research, and map the topics, trends, and gaps. The large part of recent research has focused on talent identification and the factors that reveal talents. In contrast, relatively less research has addressed the question how young talents develop in a long-term process towards becoming senior high-performers. This is an evolving field and research is still in a primarily explorative stage. A variety of different study designs and methodological approaches have been employed to explore different factors and outcomes of talent development, yielding heterogeneous findings.

A Four Dimensional Approach to Developing Youth Players to Gain Elite Status by Philip Phillipou Pdf

Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Sport - Kinematics and Training Theory, grade: 9.0/10.0, Universidad Europea de Madrid (Escuela Universitaria Real Madrid), course: Master in Talent Identification and Development in Soccer, language: English, abstract: This paper will demonstrate a long term athlete development programme based on a four dimensional approach (tactical, technical, physical and psycho-social). A one dimensional approach in isolation would be unrealistic and detrimental to football development. The modern game is rich in intensity, is multi-skilled, a contact sport and requires a quick thought-process. Therefore, a four dimensional approach will be used to combat these main pillars. The information will be based upon a situation of an Academy Manager to develop elite players for the first team. The goal will be to develop at least 3 youth players for the first team every 2 seasons. The club which this paper is based on will follow the philosophy of developing players for the first team as opposed to a club that is willing to spend money on players who are already established or buying already talented young players from other clubs rather than developing their own. Extensive research will be taken from books, academic papers, lectures, my own experiences and other reliable sources to gain maximal knowledge. Furthermore, each age group will be throughly discussed by analysing the potential benefits and fragilities of each age group, and also looking on how best to deal with these issues to obtain the maximal potential of each player. Finally, the curriculum advances in an age appropriate manner to show a clear progression through the age groups into adulthood.

Injury in Pediatric and Adolescent Sports by Dennis Caine,Laura Purcell Pdf

Providing a state-of-the-art account of the nature, distribution and determinants of sports injury in children and adolescents, this unique volume uses the public health model to describe the scope of the injury problem and the associated risk factors and evaluate the current research on injury prevention strategies as described in the literature. Thoughtfully divided in six sections, the nature of the young athlete and epidemiology of pediatric and adolescent sports injury are described first. Then an overview of the most common types of youth sports injuries as well as more serious injuries (e.g., concussions) and outcomes is presented, followed by a discussion of injury causation and prevention. Suggestions for future research rounds out the presentation. Each chapter is illustrated with tables which make it easy to examine injury factors between studies. Throughout, the editors and contributors have taken an evidence-based approach and adopted a uniform methodology to assess the data available. Ideal for physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and sports scientists alike, Injury in Pediatric and Adolescent Sports concisely and accurately presents the situation faced by clinicians treating young athletes and the challenges they face in keeping up with this growing and active population. Furthermore, the information in this book will be useful to allied health researchers and sport governing bodies as an informed basis for continued epidemiological study and implementation of injury prevention initiatives designed to reduce the incidence and severity of injuries encountered by young athletes.
