Sexual Lives: A Reader on the Theories and Realities of Human Sexualities by Robert Heasley,Betsy Crane Pdf

This reader provides a social constructionist approach to teaching about sexuality. Its 65 selections combine a range of classic theoretical articles with a large number of original pieces, organized to help students understand the ways sexuality influences every aspect of their lives. The reader focuses on the theoretical and the personal stories of people’s sexuality. Personal narratives, many written by students, bridge the gap between theory and experience. The book invites the student into thinking about how sexuality itself is “constructed” as a result of norms, values, beliefs, and practices. It weaves together gender and sexuality, helping students understand the intersection between the two (and the confusion in society when we find people don’t easily “fit” into categories).

The Future of Post-Human Sexuality by Peter Baofu Pdf

What precisely resides in “sexuality” which warrants the popular discourse on sexuality as “part of our world freedom,” or something as an inspiring source for “our own creation” of “new forms of relationships” or “new forms of love” never before possible in human history? This popular treatment of sexual freedom has become so politically correct, in this day and age of ours, that it fast degenerates into a seductive ideology which has impoverished our understanding of sexuality by blinding us from its dark sides. Contrary to this intoxicating conventional wisdom, the dark sides of this seductive ideology have yet to be systematically understood and that its very creative freedom is neither possible nor desirable to the extent that its advocates would like us to believe. Of course, this is not to suggest that sexuality should not be about freedom nor creativity, or that the literature in sexual studies (and other related fields like gender studies, queer studies, and cultural studies, for example) should be ignored because of their scholarly nonsense. Needless to say, neither of these two extreme views is reasonable either. Instead, the purpose of this book is to provide an alternative (better) way to understand the nature of sexuality, in special relation to the sexual body and spirit, in conjunction with the mind—while learning from different approaches in the literature but without favoring any one of them (nor integrating them, since they are not necessarily compatible with each other). This seminal project, if successful, will fundamentally change the way that we think about the nature of sexuality, from the combined perspectives of the mind, nature, society, and culture, with enormous implications for the human future and what I originally called its “post-human” fate.

True Nature by Michael R. Kauth Pdf

This volume presents an updated and truly interactionist theory of sexual attraction, in which biologically based erotic processing biases are continually exploited or challenged by social and cultural conditions. From this perspective, social orientation is viewed as a process rather than an outcome. The author takes an interdisciplinary approach that draws upon data from anthropology, sociology, gender studies, social constructionism, behavioral and developmental psychology, evolutionary biology, genetics, endocrinology, and cognitive functioning to support his theory. This text will be of interest to sexologists, evolutionary biologists, psychologists and other social scientists interested in human sexuality

Expand your knowledge—with theories and concepts that may challenge your assumptions about sexual attraction Human sexuality can be better understood by knowing how sexual psychologies may have evolved throughout the ages. This comprehensive source also presents three groundbreaking theories of the evolution of same-sex attraction. Handbook of the Evolution of Human Sexuality takes current assumptions about human sexuality, explains each in turn, and then offers fresh perspectives on conventional concepts of sexual orientation. This extensive resource provides ample evidence to argue that researchers should investigate sexual relationships based on a person’s characteristics such as personal traits, complementary roles/status, sexual acts, or situational context rather than simply the sex of the partner. The book provides a discussion of evolutionary theory, evolution of human sexual culture, evolution of sexual pleasure, and detailed analysis of assumptions about sexual orientation. The text is carefully referenced. Some of the topics explored by Handbook of the Evolution of Human Sexuality include: links to non-human primate sexual behaviors and the emergence of human (sexual) nature EP research on consensual adult human sexual behaviors studies of evolved male and female mating strategies, mate preferences, and sexual psychologies a brief history of the theory of evolution ancient culture, archeology, and an overview of premodern human sexuality evolutionary history of sexual pleasure human mating strategies development of mate preferences sexual signals, such as distinctive physical features, material wealth, etc. theories of the evolution of same-sex sexual attraction and behavior Primatologist Paul Vasey’s observations of female Japanese macaques and their female-female sexual encounters—with an examination of human male-male behavior evolutionary history of female-female affectional bonding with a new theory on the behavior evolutionary history of male-male sexual behavior—with intriguing thoughts on why it happened evolutionary history of pheromones as chemical messengers much more Handbook of the Evolution of Human Sexuality is an important, thought-provoking resource perfect for evolutionary psychologists, sexologists, educators, researchers, scholars, and graduate students.

Females, Males, and Sexuality by Kathryn Kelley Pdf

Females, Males, and Sexuality examines the differences and similarities between males and females in their sexual attitudes, fantasies, and behaviors. Long a controversial subject, the differences between the sexes remains a source of unanswered questions and provocative debates. The views of eight behavioral scientists are combined in this volume to provide biological, social, and socio-biological perspectives on gender and sexuality. Sex variations in attitudes and behaviors are integrated in the introductory chapter. It provides a theoretical framework for describing current findings presented in subsequent chapters, as well as predicting the likelihood of sex differences in future studies. In other chapters, research on the premenstrual syndrome, hormones, and sexual expectations are analyzed. In chapters on attitudes about contraception, female contraceptive behavior serves as a model for organizing predictions about such behavior in males.
