Probable Maximum Thunderstorm Precipitation Estimates, Southwest States by John T. Riedel,E. Marshall Hansen Pdf

"This study of probable maximum precipitation (PMP) from local thunderstorms for the Southwest United States will be published together with general storm PMP estimates covering this region. General storm PMP estimates are the subject of a current study in the Hydrometeorological Branch and will not be in a form for publication until late in 1974 or early 1975. In the meantime, the estimates of this report can be used for small drainages. In the more orographic regions, the general storm PMP values might exceed the thunderstorm PMP for 6 hours for basins as small as 200 square miles in area"--Page ii

Introduction to Hydrometeorology by J. P. Bruce,R. H. Clark Pdf

Introduction to Hydrometeorology is the study of the hydrolic cycle, which is the circulation of water from the seas, into the atmosphere, and back to either land or sea. This book describes hydrometeorology or the application of meteorology to problems that pertain to hydrology, and then discusses the approach, through meteorology, to the solution of hydrologic problems. This text outlines observation methods on the subject and discusses the applications of hydrometeorology to problems encountered in the study of river and lake behaviors. Topics include precipitation, melting of ice, streamflows, lakes, evaporation, and evapotranspiration. The frequently used methods in analysis, such as employing statistics to hydrometereological problems, precipitation analysis, and streamflow routing are explained. This text also shows how extending streamflow records can be helpful in predicting the regime or course of a stream in the future. Records of seasonal and annual flow, flood runoff, peak discharge, as well as seasons of low flow and drought become useful tools in estimating the frequency and magnitude of streamflows. After which, the book discusses possible engineering designs in irrigation, storm sewers, and reservoirs. The text looks into the ways how human has influenced the hydrologic cycle through induced precipitation, melting of ice covers, and urbanization. Lastly, some climactic trends and cycles that bring about climate change and water resource development are discussed. This text can be used by students studying hydrology and those with meteorology majors. This book can also be read by meteorologists, environmentalists, and people working in general earth sciences.

Earth Systems Data Processing and Visualization Using MATLAB by Zekâi Şen Pdf

This book is designed to provide easy means of problem solving based on the science philosophical and logical rules that lead to effective and reliable software at the service of professional earth system scientists through numerical scientific computation techniques. Through careful examination of software illuminated by brief scientific explanations given in the book the reader may develop his/her skills of computer program writing. Science aspects that are concerned with earth systems need numerical computation procedures and algorithms of data collected from the field measurements or laboratory records. The same is also valid for data processing in social sciences and economics. Some of the data assessment and processing procedures are at the large scales and complex, and therefore, require effective and efficient computer programs. Data reduction and graphical display in addition to probabilistic and statistical calculations are among the general purposes of the book. Not only students’ works but also projects of researchers at universities and tasks of experts in different companies depend on reliable software. Especially, potential users of MATLAB in earth systems need a guidance book that covers a variety of practically applicable software solutions.
