The Terran Union is engaged in a vast interstellar war against the Krag Ruthless aliens intent on exterminating humankind. In 2315, the wily Max Robichaux is given command of the USS Cumberland, a destroyer with state-of-the-art capabilities but a combat record so bad, she's known as the "Cumberland Gap." Capt. Robichaux's first mission: to take his warship to the Free Corridor, where the Krag have secretly been buying strategic materials, and to seize or destroy any ships carrying enemy cargo. Far from the fleet and under enforced radio silence, Max relies only on his determination and guile...and the support and friendship of his chief medical officer, the brilliant Dr. Sahin. Because even as he deals with the ship's onboard problems and the stress of carrying out her risky assignment, Max and the doctor discover that the Cumberland and her misfit crew are all that stands in the way of a deadly Krag attack that threatens to end the war--and humanity--once and for all. A far-future story in the tradition of "ships of wood, men of iron" novels, To Honor You Call Us and the Man of War series combine the adventure of exploration, the excitement of war, and the dangers of the unknown through the eyes of a ship and her crew.

To Honor You Call Us by H. Paul Honsinger,Harvey G. Phillips Pdf

The Terran Union has spent the last thirty years fighting a vast interstellar war spanning a thousand light years and encompassing hundreds of worlds. The Union's enemies in this war are the Krag, implacable aliens whose goal is to exterminate the human race. Now, in the year 2315, with the future of mankind hanging in the balance, wily 28 year old Cajun Max Robichaux is promoted to command of the U.S.S. Cumberland, a Destroyer with state of the art capabilities but a combat record so bad that she is known throughout the fleet as the "Cumberland Gap." Captain Robichaux's first mission: take his compact warship among the independent systems of the Free Corridor where the Krag have been secretly purchasing strategic materials, and seize or destroy any ships carrying cargo for the enemy. Max must shoot it out with the Krag convoys or, if he is outgunned, win the day by liberal use of guile, ruse, and military deception. Far from the fleet and under enforced radio silence, the young skipper can rely only on his determination, his wits and, to his surprise, the support, advice, and, increasingly, the friendship, of his Chief Medical Officer, the brilliant and mysterious Doctor Ibrahim Sahin, surgeon, trader, scientist, swordsman, and diplomat. But, while facing the Cumberland's shipboard problems and carrying out her dangerous assignment, Max and Doctor Sahin suddenly discover that the Cumberland and her misfit crew are all that stands in the way of a deadly all-out Krag attack that exploits a hidden flaw in the Union's defenses to strike deep into the heart of the Human Space, threatening to end the war and spell the extinction of humanity. To Honor You Call Us combines the gritty slice of life naval realism found in the classic "Ships of Wood and Men of Iron" novels with the razzle-dazzle of a Cold War Techno-Thriller, all placed in a believable galactic military setting 300 years in the future. Authors H. Paul Honsinger and Harvey G. Phillips immerse the reader in a richly-imagined universe, bringing to vivid life the officers, men, ships, weapons, tactics, and strategy of space combat in the year 2315, giving the reader a healthy dose of exciting battle action as well as opening a window into the conflict, camaraderie, and customs of the wardroom and the lower decks. But, beyond the hardware and the clash of arms, To Honor You Call Us is a sweeping tale in the classic mold, of honor and courage, friendship and loyalty, daring and sacrifice, and of the unconquerable human spirit. To Honor You Call Us is the first volume of the a trilogy which, in turn, is planned as the cornerstone of an extended series of "hard" Military Science Fiction novels. The second volume, For Honor We Came, is due out in the Spring of 2013 with the third, Brothers in Valor, expected in Fall/Winter 2013. It is a full length, 130,000+ word novel.

Becoming Kin by Patty Krawec Pdf

We find our way forward by going back. The invented history of the Western world is crumbling fast, Anishinaabe writer Patty Krawec says, but we can still honor the bonds between us. Settlers dominated and divided, but Indigenous peoples won't just send them all "home." Weaving her own story with the story of her ancestors and with the broader themes of creation, replacement, and disappearance, Krawec helps readers see settler colonialism through the eyes of an Indigenous writer. Settler colonialism tried to force us into one particular way of living, but the old ways of kinship can help us imagine a different future. Krawec asks, What would it look like to remember that we are all related? How might we become better relatives to the land, to one another, and to Indigenous movements for solidarity? Braiding together historical, scientific, and cultural analysis, Indigenous ways of knowing, and the vivid threads of communal memory, Krawec crafts a stunning, forceful call to "unforget" our history. This remarkable sojourn through Native and settler history, myth, identity, and spirituality helps us retrace our steps and pick up what was lost along the way: chances to honor rather than violate treaties, to see the land as a relative rather than a resource, and to unravel the history we have been taught.

Don't Call Us Dead by Danez Smith Pdf

The highly anticipated second collection by Danez Smith—“Hallelujah is an understatement” (Patricia Smith) Award-winning poet Danez Smith is a groundbreaking force, celebrated for deft lyrics, urgent subjects, and performative power. Don’t Call Us Dead opens with a heartrending sequence that imagines an afterlife for black men shot by police, a place where suspicion, violence, and grief are forgotten and replaced with the safety, love, and longevity they deserved here on earth. Smith turns then to desire, mortality—the dangers experienced in skin and body and blood—and a diagnosis of HIV positive. “Some of us are killed / in pieces,” Smith writes, “some of us all at once.” Don’t Call Us Dead is an astonishing and ambitious collection, one that confronts, praises, and rebukes America—“Dear White America”—where every day is too often a funeral and not often enough a miracle.

I Give Honor First to God by Lorine Hargrave Pdf

My prayers are that my book will inspire people to change their lives completely. The pages in this book have been prayed over with the laying on of my hands and anointed with my tears, as I cried while writing it. Some parts of the book are sad, and some parts are happy. First, it describes a sad little girl who was verbally and mentally abused, who was made to feel bad, with low self-esteem. She was humiliated, unloved, unwanted, and uneducated, but she had to work. She prayed to God for His help. The second part of this book tells about a happy young woman who met God and then met the love of her life. She married at age seventeen and has been married now for fifty-nine years, with five lovely daughters. The greatest thing that happened to her is she met God at the age of eighteen. She loves the Lord!

Honor Bound by David Leverenz Pdf

As Bill Clinton said in his second inaugural address, “The divide of race has been America’s constant curse.” In Honor Bound, David Leverenz explores the past to the present of that divide. He argues that in the United States, the rise and decline of white people’s racial shaming reflect the rise and decline of white honor. “White skin” and “black skin” are fictions of honor and shame. Americans have lived those fictions for over four hundred years. To make his argument, Leverenz casts an unusually wide net, from ancient and modern cultures of honor to social, political, and military history to American literature and popular culture. He highlights the convergence of whiteness and honor in the United States from the antebellum period to the present. The Civil War, the civil rights movement, and the election of Barack Obama represent racial progress; the Tea Party movement represents the latest recoil. From exploring African American narratives to examining a 2009 episode of Hardball—in which two white commentators restore their honor by mocking U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder after he called Americans “cowards” for not talking more about race—Leverenz illustrates how white honor has prompted racial shaming and humiliation. The United States became a nation-state in which light-skinned people declared themselves white. The fear masked by white honor surfaces in such classics of American literature as The Scarlet Letter and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and in the U.S. wars against the Barbary pirates from 1783 to 1815 and the Iraqi insurgents from 2003 to the present. John McCain’s Faith of My Fathers is used to frame the 2008 presidential campaign as white honor’s last national stand. Honor Bound concludes by probing the endless attempts in 2009 and 2010 to preserve white honor through racial shaming, from the “birthers” and Tea Party protests to Joe Wilson’s “You lie!” in Congress and the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr. at the front door of his own home. Leverenz is optimistic that, in the twenty-first century, racial shaming is itself becoming shameful.

Code Of Honor by Ashish Raichur Pdf

Ethics has to do with moral code, values and principles. While a code of conduct can be discussed and documented, the standards of ethics itself does not provide the power to keep them. The power to adhere to moral values and principles comes from within each individual. As Christian ministers, our power to walk morally upright comes from our dependence on the Lord Himself and through the grace He provides. No code of conduct, no teaching on ethics, no wise counsel or set of guidelines can help a Christian minister who does not take his/her personal walk with God seriously. In the Church today, where many of us are pressing in to more of the manifestation of God's power, anointing, signs and wonders, miracles and healings, prophetic and the supernatural - a call to godly standards of life and conduct may not be very popular. Preachers and ministers are sought after, mom for what they can manifest in one hour behind the pulpit, than for the life they live off it. It is time for us as ministers of Christ to re-establish standards of serving "God acceptably with reverence and godly fear." (Hebrews 12:28). That is what this book is about - an easy-to-read collection of ethical values, godly standards and practical wisdom for men and women in Christian ministry. Your life and ministry is sure to be enriched, if you will read this book. This book will be a useful resource for Bible Colleges, Seminaries, Bible Training Centers and wherever men and women are being trained for Christian ministry. This will also be a good handbook to teach at Pastors' Conferences and Seminars. Pastors and other ministry leaders will find it useful to use this resource as they train and prepare their ministry teams.
