Toarcian (early Jurassic) Ammonoids from Western North America by G. K. Jakobs Pdf

Toarcian (Early Jurassic) strata in the Queen Charlotte Islands have yielded a well-preserved and diverse ammonite fauna that provides a framework for a regional ammonite zonation for western North America described in this report. Other localities, particularly in southern Alaska and north- western British Columbia, have provided additional material contributing to the development of this zonation, which is of prime importance in determining the age of sedimentary strata and the relative timing of tectonic events. The report describes the biostratigraphy of the five western North American Toarcian ammonite zones, the occurrence and stratigraphy of Toarcian fossil occurrences in the western Cordillera, Pacific Northwest, and Queen Charlotte Islands, and biostratigraphic correlations with other areas including Europe. Systematic paleontological descriptions are provided of fossil ammonoids. The appendix includes fossil specimen locality data.

The Jurassic of the Circum-Pacific by Gerd Ernst Gerold Westermann,Gerd E. G. Westermann Pdf

In this work, 60 specialists come together to discuss the regional occurrences of Jurassic rocks. Not only is this the first comprehensive synthesis of Jurassic geology and palaeontology, but it is in fact the only one of its kind for any geological system.

Jurassic Paleobiogeography of the Conterminous United States in Its Continental Setting by Ralph Willard Imlay Pdf

Paleogeographic changes in the United States during Jurassic time are revealed by the distribution, succession, and differentiation of molluscan faunas; by gross stratigraphic changes; by the position, extent, and duration of unconformities; and by comparisons with Jurassic data elsewhere in North America.

Ammonoid Paleobiology: From macroevolution to paleogeography by Christian Klug,Dieter Korn,Kenneth De Baets,Isabelle Kruta,Royal H. Mapes Pdf

This two-volume work is a testament to the abiding interest and human fascination with ammonites. We offer a new model to explain the morphogenesis of septa and the shell, we explore their habitats by the content of stable isotopes in their shells, we discuss the origin and later evolution of this important clade, and we deliver hypotheses on its demise. The Ammonoidea produced a great number of species that can be used in biostratigraphy and possibly, this is the macrofossil group, which has been used the most for that purpose. Nevertheless, many aspects of their anatomy, mode of life, development or paleobiogeographic distribution are still poorly known. Themes treated are biostratigraphy, paleoecology, paleoenvironment, paleobiogeography, evolution, phylogeny, and ontogeny. Advances such as an explosion of new information about ammonites, new technologies such as isotopic analysis, tomography and virtual paleontology in general, as well as continuous discovery of new fossil finds have given us the opportunity to present a comprehensive and timely "state of the art" compilation. Moreover, it also points the way for future studies to further enhance our understanding of this endlessly fascinating group of organisms.

Ammonoid Paleobiology by Neil H. Landman,Kazushige Tanabe,Richard Arnold Davis Pdf

Renowned researchers summarize the current knowledge on ammonoid paleobiology. The book begins with a description of the systematic position of the Ammonoidea within the Cephalopoda, providing the phylogenetic framework for the rest of the book. Following discussions include soft- and hard-part morphology of ammonoids, rate of growth and ontogeny, and taphonomy and ecology. Closing chapters explore the distribution of ammonoids in time and space as well as their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous. With its diverse viewpoints and new material, this resource will benefit researchers and graduate students in paleontology, marine biology, and evolutionary biology.

Carbon Cycle and Ecosystem Response to the Jenkyns Event in the Early Toarcian (Jurassic) by M. Reolid,L.V. Duarte,E. Mattioli,W. Ruebsam Pdf

The Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event, also known as the Jenkyns Event, was a hyperthermal episode which occurred during the early Toarcian (c. 183 Ma; Early Jurassic) and resulted in numerous collateral effects including global warming, enhanced weathering, sea-level change, carbonate crisis, marine anoxia–dysoxia, and a second-order mass extinction. This volume presents the last advances for understanding early Toarcian environmental changes through different disciplines: biostratigraphy, micropalaeontology, palaeontology, ichnology, palaeoecology, sedimentology, integrated stratigraphy, inorganic, organic and isotopic geochemistry, and cyclostratigraphy. The study of this abrupt climate change is critical for predicting future global changes, and for understanding the complex biogeochemical interactions through time between geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere.
