Advances in Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems by Manuel Graña Pdf

In this 2012 edition of Advances in Knowledge-Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems the latest innovations and advances in Intelligent Systems and related areas are presented by leading experts from all over the world. The 228 papers that are included cover a wide range of topics. One emphasis is on Information Processing, which has become a pervasive phenomenon in our civilization. While the majority of Information Processing is becoming intelligent in a very broad sense, major research in Semantics, Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Engineering supports the domain specific applications that are becoming more and more present in our everyday living. Ontologies play a major role in the development of Knowledge Engineering in various domains, from Semantic Web down to the design of specific Decision Support Systems. Research on Ontologies and their applications is a highly active front of current Computational Intelligence science that is addressed here. Other subjects in this volume are modern Machine Learning, Lattice Computing and Mathematical Morphology. The wide scope and high quality of these contributions clearly show that knowledge engineering is a continuous living and evolving set of technologies aimed at improving the design and understanding of systems and their relations with humans.

Hybrid Artificial Intelligent Systems, Part II by Manuel Grana Romay,Alexandre Manhaes Savio Pdf

th The 5 International Conference on Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Systems (HAIS 2010) has become a unique, established and broad interdisciplinary forum for researchers and practitioners who are involved in developing and applying symbolic and sub-symbolic techniques aimed at the construction of highly robust and reliable problem-solving techniques, and bringing the most relevant achievements in this field. Overcoming the rigid encasing imposed by the arising orthodoxy in the field of arti- cial intelligence, which has led to the partition of researchers into so-called areas or fields, interest in hybrid intelligent systems is growing because they give freedom to design innovative solutions to the ever-increasing complexities of real-world pr- lems. Noise and uncertainty call for probabilistic (often Bayesian) methods, while the huge amount of data in some cases asks for fast heuristic (in the sense of suboptimal and ad-hoc) algorithms able to give answers in acceptable time frames. High dim- sionality demands linear and non-linear dimensionality reduction and feature extr- tion algorithms, while the imprecision and vagueness call for fuzzy reasoning and linguistic variable formalization. Nothing impedes real-life problems to mix diffic- ties, presenting huge quantities of noisy, vague and high-dimensional data; therefore, the design of solutions must be able to resort to any tool of the trade to attack the problem. Combining diverse paradigms poses challenging problems of computational and methodological interfacing of several previously incompatible approaches. This is, thus, the setting of HAIS conference series, and its increasing success is the proof of the vitality of this exciting field.

Introduction to Lattice Algebra by Gerhard X. Ritter,Gonzalo Urcid Pdf

Lattice theory extends into virtually every branch of mathematics, ranging from measure theory and convex geometry to probability theory and topology. A more recent development has been the rapid escalation of employing lattice theory for various applications outside the domain of pure mathematics. These applications range from electronic communication theory and gate array devices that implement Boolean logic to artificial intelligence and computer science in general. Introduction to Lattice Algebra: With Applications in AI, Pattern Recognition, Image Analysis, and Biomimetic Neural Networks lays emphasis on two subjects, the first being lattice algebra and the second the practical applications of that algebra. This textbook is intended to be used for a special topics course in artificial intelligence with a focus on pattern recognition, multispectral image analysis, and biomimetic artificial neural networks. The book is self-contained and – depending on the student’s major – can be used for a senior undergraduate level or first-year graduate level course. The book is also an ideal self-study guide for researchers and professionals in the above-mentioned disciplines. Features Filled with instructive examples and exercises to help build understanding Suitable for researchers, professionals and students, both in mathematics and computer science Contains numerous exercises.

Scalable Optimization via Probabilistic Modeling by Martin Pelikan,Kumara Sastry,Erick Cantú-Paz Pdf

I’m not usually a fan of edited volumes. Too often they are an incoherent hodgepodge of remnants, renegades, or rejects foisted upon an unsuspecting reading public under a misleading or fraudulent title. The volume Scalable Optimization via Probabilistic Modeling: From Algorithms to Applications is a worthy addition to your library because it succeeds on exactly those dimensions where so many edited volumes fail. For example, take the title, Scalable Optimization via Probabilistic M- eling: From Algorithms to Applications. You need not worry that you’re going to pick up this book and ?nd stray articles about anything else. This book focuseslikealaserbeamononeofthehottesttopicsinevolutionary compu- tion over the last decade or so: estimation of distribution algorithms (EDAs). EDAs borrow evolutionary computation’s population orientation and sel- tionism and throw out the genetics to give us a hybrid of substantial power, elegance, and extensibility. The article sequencing in most edited volumes is hard to understand, but from the get go the editors of this volume have assembled a set of articles sequenced in a logical fashion. The book moves from design to e?ciency enhancement and then concludes with relevant applications. The emphasis on e?ciency enhancement is particularly important, because the data-mining perspectiveimplicitinEDAsopensuptheworldofoptimizationtonewme- ods of data-guided adaptation that can further speed solutions through the construction and utilization of e?ective surrogates, hybrids, and parallel and temporal decompositions.

Perception-based Data Mining and Decision Making in Economics and Finance by Ildar Batyrshin Pdf

The primary goal of this book is to present to the scientific and management communities a selection of applications using recent Soft Computing (SC) and Computing with Words and Perceptions (CWP) models and techniques meant to solve some economics and financial problems that are of utmost importance. The book starts with a coverage of data mining tools and techniques that may be of use and significance for economic and financial analyses and applications. Notably, fuzzy and natural language based approaches and solutions for a more human consistent dealing with decision support, time series analysis, forecasting, clustering, etc. are discussed. The second part deals with various decision making models, particularly under probabilistic and fuzzy uncertainty, and their applications in solving a wide array of problems including portfolio optimization, option pricing, financial engineering, risk analysis etc. The selected examples could also serve as a starting point or as an opening out, in the SC and CWP techniques application to a wider range of problems in economics and finance.
