Making Choices about Hydrogen by Lynn Krieger Mytelka,Grant Boyle Pdf

Since the mid-1990s, the emergence of a hydrogen economy and the speed with which it will arrive have been vigorously debated. As a disruptive technology, dominant designs for the production, storage and distribution of hydrogen have not yet been established. Neither have performance characteristics been achieved to compete with the existing combustion engine, though the efficiency and durability of hydrogen fuel cells are improving. This publication highlights the uncertainties involved in making choices about hydrogen and fuel cells in planning the development policies on national energy, environment and transport sector.--Publisher's description.

Urban Transport XXIV by F. A. Ortega Riejos Pdf

Providing a collection of research works on the continuing requirement for better urban transport systems, this volume consists of papers presented at the 24th International Conference on Urban Transport and the Environment. The need for better urban transport systems and for a healthier environment has resulted in a wide range of research originating from many different countries. These studies highlight the importance of innovative systems, new approaches and original ideas, which need to be thoroughly tested and critically evaluated before they can be implemented in practice. Moreover, there is a growing need for integration with telecommunications systems and IT applications in order to improve safety, security and efficiency. This book also addresses the need to solve important pollution problems associated with urban transport in order to achieve a healthier environment. The variety of topics covered in this volume reflects the complex interaction of the urban transport systems with their environment and the need to establish integrated strategies. The aim is to arrive at optimal socio-economic solutions while reducing the negative environmental impacts of current transportation systems.

The Quality of the Urban Road Transportation System in Port Harcourt by Chukwuebuka Okafor Pdf

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Urban and Regional Planning, grade: B, , language: English, abstract: This research work critically assesses the quality of urban road transportation system in Port Harcourt Metropolis. It does so by defining transportation as the means of conveying, conveyance or been conveyed from one place to another and it involves humans, animals and objects. It also addresses all necessary infrastructures that must be functional to make the transport system in the study area efficient. Excessive traffic demand is choking the study area even when car ownership is moderate due to poor city structure and narrow roads. Further, increased traffic demand is expected in the study area by the year 2030. The study in achieving its goal employed the mixed method design and the case study method, whereby both qualitative and quantitative research components were used in the data analysis and the central point of the findings is that the quality of road transport service in the study area is declining despite the recent development in the transportation sector. Hence, this study, advocates for more relevant and vital transportation infrastructures that will aid the efficiency of urban road transport services in Port Harcourt Metropolis and also the culture of maintenance should be inculcated to ensure its durability. The study concludes that quality of urban road transportation system in Port Harcourt Metropolis City will increase to a very high level and will in turn increase the economic state of the city if all relevant transport infrastructures and policies are put in place both by the state and federal government in Nigeria.

Problems and Prospects of Sustaining Democracy in Nigeria by Bamidele A. Ojo Pdf

The past few years have been very traumatic ones for many Nigerians. With the exception of those in power or close to the seat of power, the changes of 1998 were a welcome relief given the tyranny and repression that the country had suffered under General Abacha. With many people in prison and more in exile, the death of Abacha was received with a sigh of relief. Many observers have seen the resilience that has come to signify the strength and potential of this once 'giant of Africa', as well as the destruction and the socio-political and economic decay of the past decades. The Nigerian people have endured the exploitation of their rights due to the lack of democratic leadership, and with this in mind, they have been called to attention to fight for their country.

Urban Transport XX by C. A. Brebbia Pdf

Urban Transport XX contains the proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Urban Transport and the Environment. Transportation in urban areas, with its related environmental and social impacts, is a topic of significant concern for policymakers in both municipal and central government and for the urban citizens who need effective and efficient transport systems. Urban transport systems require considerable studies to devise and then safeguard their operational use, maintenance and operational safety. Transportation systems produce significant environmental impacts and can enhance or degrade the quality of life in urban centres. Clearly the challenge of providing effective and efficient transport systems in urban settings remains an acute challenge with financial, political and environmental constrains limiting the ability of transport system planners and operators to deliver the high quality outcomes expected by the public. Topics covered include: Transport Strategies; Public Transport Systems; Environmentally Friendly Transport Modes; Pedestrians and Traffic; Environmental Impact; Intelligent Transport Systems; Transport Safety and Security; Infrastructure; Experiences from Emerging Countries; Land use and Transport Integration.
