The Treaty of Lisbon and the Future of European Law and Policy by Martin Trybus,Luca Rubini Pdf

'After Lisbon the EU has reached a new precarious stage in its development. New institutions have been created and policies reformed. The different chapters of this book cover the most important innovations, while providing a fresh critical assessment of the shortcomings of the present arrangements. Works are always in progress at the EU site and the authors provide the future architects of this grand building as well as the academic community with much food for thought.' – Roberto Caranta, University of Turin, Italy This comprehensive and insightful book discusses in detail the many innovations and shortcomings of the historic Lisbon version of the Treaty on European Union and what is now called the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. Divided into six parts, the 23 chapters provide 'after Lisbon' perspectives on law and governance of the EU, its powers and nature, the Charter of Fundamental Rights, EU external action and policy, justice and criminal policy, and economic governance. The authors, drawn from eleven EU Member States, offer a uniquely diverse and extensive coverage of the new EU law and policy after Lisbon. The book argues that while the Treaty of Lisbon has to be considered a milestone in the history of European integration, its shortcomings and open questions will make a future major treaty inevitable. The Treaty of Lisbon and the Future of European Law and Policy will appeal to postgraduate students and academics in European law and policy, EU institutions, diplomatic missions, lobbying, NGOs, specialised lawyers and governments.

A Simplified Treaty for the European Union by Kim Feus Pdf

The idea for re-organising the complex collection of interlocking European treaties in order to make them clearer was originally presented in the Comission's opinion to the 1997 Intergovernmental Conference at Amsterdam. It was taken up in the 'Wise Men' report by Jean-Luc Dehaene, former Prime Minister of belgium, Lord Simon, former Minister of Trade and Competitiveness in Europe, and Richard vonWeizacker, former President of the federal republic of Germany, on the institutional implications of enlargement. The European Comission then asked the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence to carry out a feasibility study on simplifying the Treaties without, however, changing their substance. The EUI has produced a draft basic Treaty of the European Union - a simplified, coherent treaty that restructures the Articles setting out the institutional framework, the operating rules of the Union and the EU's policy objectives. The contributors in this volume analyse the draft and comment on whether this re-organisation actually makes the Treaties more accessible to Europe's cotizens. In doing so, they pose another question; is simplification sufficient, or has the time come for a Basic treaty that really provides the EU with a proper constitution? In addressing this question, the authors- academics and politicians with an in-depth knowledge of the EU's constitutional development- make a valuable contribution to the wider debate on the future of Europe. The European Monetary Union by Helmut Siekmann Pdf

This book provides a commentary on the law of the EU related to the Monetary Union. It contains a comprehensive analysis of all provisions of the Statute of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the European Central Bank (ECB). In addition, the book also analyses all provisions of the Treaties themselves which regulate the ESCB and the ECB. This analysis is supplemented by commentaries on other Protocols which contain relevant rules for the Monetary Union. In essence, all relevant statutory rules governing the euro and its key monetary authority, the European Central Bank, are unfolded and explained in one volume. This gives the book a unique position in the legal literature on the law of the EU. With contributions by renowned academics and practitioners, this book is an expanded and updated translation of the 2013 German commentary, EWU Kommentar zu Europäischen Währungsunion (Mohr Siebeck) and is an invaluable resource for practitioners and academics alike who are looking for a provision-by-provision commentary on the laws governing the European Monetary Union.
