Part 1 considers recent scholarly studies of "inspired speech" in the ancient world where parallels have been alleged with the early Christian experience as recorded in the New testament. Audacity of Speaking in Tongues by Oppong Kyekyeku Pdf

Theological correctness has made speaking in tongues controversial, and it confuses everyone within Christendom. Many doubts which surrendering it are creating fear instead of faith for its authenticity, meanwhile Jesus promised every believer as one of the signs to follow us. Speaking in tongues is not the Holy Spirit, but it is the evidence indicating that the Holy Spirit has come upon you. It happened on the day of Pentecost, when one hundred and twenty believers gathered together in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit came upon all of them, and they began to speak in tongues as evidence to confirm Jesus's prophecy. Peter couldn't ignore its reality but confirmed that the Holy Spirit had come upon the Gentiles just as they received, when he heard the household of Cornelius speaking in tongues. In Ephesus, Paul also believed the fact that the Holy Spirit had come upon all the twelve converts by laying his hands on them, because they spoke in tongues. Now we contemporary Christians cannot overlook this evidence. Instead, we must continue until we pass to the next generation. Because the truth has to be told.

Speaking in Tongues by Kathleen Schwab,Matthew Schwab,Chris McKinney Pdf

Have you ever wondered why your prayer language doesn’t sound like real words? And why is it so repetitive? Why does it usually start with the same few words or syllables? Maybe you’ve asked those questions at times. We’ve asked the same questions—and quite a few others—regarding the gifts of tongues and interpretation of tongues. Then we sought the Lord for understanding of these gifts and did our best to operate in them faithfully. He gave us many insights and answers, and then brought it all together in a book. That was something we never really planned. It just sort of happened. We aren’t megachurch pastors. We don’t lead multi-national ministries. But we did have a calling from the Lord to write a book and spread a message. What exactly is that message? Speaking in tongues and interpreting tongues are powerful gifts with practical use for everyday people like us. When people operate in these gifts, God blesses the person operating in the gift, but He also blesses the people around them. Other Questions We Explore in the Book: What does speaking in tongues feel like emotionally? What is the purpose of speaking in tongues? What are the benefits? How does the gift of interpretation work? Are biblical tongues earthly languages, or heavenly languages? Or both? We invite you to explore these questions with us, as you read through our book. Biblical, Traditional, and Theological Framework for Understanding Christian Prophetism in Ghana Today by Daniel Nii Aboagye Aryeh Pdf

The basis for this project is to verify and determine the extent to which contemporary prophetic ministry in Ghana appropriates prophetism in the early church, Corpus Paulinum, and traditional prophetism in Ghana. The spirit of prophecy which was believed to have ceased in Judaism and during the intertestamental period has now been restored at the inauguration of Christianity. Notwithstanding, Paul gave stipulations for prophets and prophecy in the church in 1 Corinthians 14. This confirms that prophecy was a common phenomenon in the early church and Pauline communities. Contemporary prophetic ministry in Ghana claimed to have conformed to Pauline stipulations concerning prophets and prophecy in the church, but what is their level of conformity? Contemporary prophetic ministry is becoming popular due to its appeal and compatibility with religious worldviews and its pragmatic outlook that resonates with the Ghanaian phenomenon of religion. As an adherent of the Akan traditional religion would go to a religious intermediary for ebisa (literally to "inquire" or "ask") into present or future happenings, contemporary prophets have positioned themselves to be agents of ebisa in Ghanaian Christianity. This book explores biblical and traditional understandings of prophetism that have influenced contemporary Christian understanding of prophets and prophecy in the church.

Speaking in Tongues: A Critical Historical Examination by Philip E. Blosser,Charles A. Sullivan Pdf

In three carefully researched volumes, this ground-breaking study examines the gift of tongues through 2,000 years of church history. Starting in the present and working back in time, these volumes consider (1) the modern redefinition of "tongues" as a private prayer language; (2) the church's perennial understanding of "tongues" as ordinary human languages; and (3) the Corinthian "tongues," which, in light of Jewish liturgical tradition, turn out to have been a foreign liturgical language (Hebrew or Aramaic) requiring bilingual interpreters. In the first volume, the authors establish that modern glossolalia, far from being a supernatural gift enjoyed by certain believers since the time of Pentecost and undergoing a resurgence in modern times, has no precedent in church life prior to the nineteenth century. They discuss why German theologians, responding to the Irvingite revival, coined the term "glossolalia" in the 1830s; why Pentecostals between 1906-8 quietly began redefining "tongues" to mean a heavenly language unintelligible to human beings but pleasing to God, instead of foreign languages useful for evangelism; why Protestant cessationists believed miraculous tongues had ceased; and why interpolated idioms like "unknown tongues" in Protestant Bibles were aimed originally at Rome's use of Latin.

When someone speaks in tongues, is it always the work of the Holy Spirit? How can we be sure? What about the phenomenon of being slain in the spirit and all manner of supernatural occurrences? How may we distinguish between what is authentic and what is counterfeit? This book answers these questions.

The Wonders of Speaking in Tongues by Mark Amoateng, MD Pdf

In his passionate desire to see believers walk in the supernatural, Dr. Mark Amoateng has put together this book; “The Wonders of Speaking in Tongues” to stir up believers into greater dimension of spiritual manifestation. The book is not written to accentuate a doctrine, rather to position the believer to experience the promise of the Lord Jesus Christ as revealed in Mark 16:17, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name ...they will speak with new tongues.” The benefits of speaking in tongues are immense and the wonders are bewildering, as evident in this book. Anyone who speaks and prays in tongues can have access to mysteries that the human mind cannot comprehend. “For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.” 1 Corinthians 14:2. As you read, I encourage to allow the Holy Spirit to minister to you.

Speaking in Tongues Study Guide by Rick Renner Pdf

Why Tongues? What actually happens when a person first surrenders his or her life to God? What role does the Holy Spirit play? And what scriptures really help explain the extraordinary experience of being born again and being baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues? Many people are confused about tongues, so Rick Renner — who was once confused about this subject himself — takes you into the Scriptures to see what the Bible says about: Speaking in tongues. The purpose of tongues. Are tongues really for every believer? The value of speaking in tongues. And so much more. If you do not speak in tongues — or if you do speak in tongues — the lessons in this study will be an eye-opener and a game-changer in your life!
