Clinical Nursing Practices by Sarah Renton,Claire McGuinness,Evelyn Strachan Pdf

The new edition of Clinical Nursing Practices reflects the many changes in nurse education and practice. A team of clinical and education experts has updated the core practices contained within this text, while to ensure continuity the previous editors have acted as consultants in the development of this edition. To reflect the continuing evolution of nursing and nursing practice, this new 6th edition emphasizes the importance of evidence-based practice, values-based care, person centred care, health and social care integration and interprofessional education. To encourage reflective practice, self-assessment questions remain at the end of each chapter for some of the practices. Where appropriate, certain practices are evidenced mainly by National Guidelines and Standards such as Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, Infection Control and Blood Transfusion; consequently, the presentation of the skill or procedure reflects this. The updated text addresses the wider issues which impact on everyday nursing and healthcare practice and is specially written to meet the needs of nurses today. The core philosophy of book, however, remains the same: to encourage its readers to deliver the highest quality care to each individual patient, safely and effectively. Simple and straightforward step-by-step account of the key clinical procedures with clear learning outcomes. For nurses learning procedures for the first time, for newly qualified nurses needing to check their knowledge or for nurses returning to work needing an update or refresher. Equips readers to deliver high quality, safe and effective care to patients. References the new NMC standards of proficiency Updates to all chapters and skills New Action-Rationale format – clearly shows the reasons for performing each procedure. 25 new illustrations New editor team

Citizen Science for Coastal and Marine Conservation by John A. Cigliano,Heidi L. Ballard Pdf

In recent years, citizen science has emerged as a powerful new concept to enable the general public, students, and volunteers to become involved in scientific research. A prime example is in biodiversity conservation, where data collection and monitoring can be greatly enhanced through citizen participation. This is the first book to provide much needed guidance and case studies from marine and coastal conservation. The novelty and rapid expansion of the field has created a demand for the discussion of key issues and the development of best practices. The book demonstrates the utility and feasibility, as well as limitations, of using marine and coastal citizen science for conservation, and by providing critical considerations (i.e.which questions and systems are best suited for citizen science), presents recommendations for best practices for successful marine and coastal citizen science projects. A range of case studies, for example, on monitoring of seabird populations, invasive species, plastics pollution, and the impacts of climate change, from different parts of the world, is included. Also included are discussions on engaging youth, indigenous communities, and divers and snorkelers as citizen scientists, as well as best practices on communication within citizen science, building trust with stakeholders, and informing marine policy as part of this exciting and empowering way of improving marine and coastal conservation. .

The Archaeology of Maritime Landscapes by Ben Ford Pdf

Maritime cultural landscapes are collections of submerged archaeological sites, or combinations of terrestrial and submerged sites that reflect the relationship between humans and the water. These landscapes can range in size from a single beach to an entire coastline and can include areas of terrestrial sites now inundated as well as underwater sites that are now desiccated. However, what binds all of these sites together is the premise that each aspect of the landscape –cultural, political, environmental, technological, and physical – is interrelated and can not be understood without reference to the others. In this maritime cultural landscape approach, individual sites are treated as features within the larger landscape and the interpretation of single sites add to a larger analysis of a region or culture. This approach provides physical and theoretical links between terrestrial and underwater archaeology as well as prehistoric and historic archaeology; consequently, providing a framework for integrating such diverse topics as trade, resource procurement, habitation, industrial production, and warfare into a holistic study of the past. Landscape studies foster broader perspectives and approaches, extending the study of maritime cultures beyond the shoreline. Despite this potential, the archaeological study of maritime landscapes is a relatively untried approach with many questions regarding the methods and perspectives needed to effectively analyze these landscapes. The chapters in this volume, which include contributions from the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Australia, address many of the theoretical and methodological questions surrounding maritime cultural landscapes. The authors comprise established scholars as well as archaeologists at the beginning of their careers, providing a healthy balance of experience and innovation. The chapters also demonstrate parity between method and theory, where the varying interpretations of culture and space are given equal weight with the challenges of investigating both wet and dry sites across large areas.

Undersea Vehicles and National Needs by National Research Council,Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences,Commission on Engineering and Technical Systems,Committee on Undersea Vehicles and National Needs Pdf

The United States faces decisions requiring information about the oceans in vastly expanded scales of time and space and from oceanic sectors not accessible with the suite of tools now used by scientists and engineers. Advances in guidance and control, communications, sensors, and other technologies for undersea vehicles can provide an opportunity to understand the oceans' influence on the energy and chemical balance that sustains humankind and to manage and deliver resources from and beneath the sea. This book assesses the state of undersea vehicle technology and opportunities for vehicle applications in science and industry. It provides guidance about vehicle subsystem development priorities and describes how national research can be focused most effectively.
