Unforeseen Fears by HW Gruchow Pdf

They played games with murders; harmless games, it seemed, piecing together details from news reports; imagining theories about how and why; and wagering each other on the outcomes. The Dunwright murders were tragic: Dillon and Martha were killed, and Brianne was missing. Still, like the others, this game wasnt supposed to be serious. But was it an execution or a kidnapping? And why was so little progress being made toward solving the case? Their curiosities fired up, Armis and Jake broke the rules and did their own sleuthing. If the investigation was being subverted, who was doing it, and why? The mystery deepened when nine-year-old Briannes dismembered remains were discovered weeks later and miles awayand Armis quest for her killer became an obsession. Yet, through encounters with corrupt lawmen, malevolent executives, and reticent family members, Armis was unable to find the answers he needed; until he met the mysterious Malwina. She insidiously drew him into her plan of personal vengeance, and closer to learning the reasons Brianne had to die. But as they intruded into a world where the bad guys seldom lose, the game turned dangerous...and deadly.

Practice What You Preach, Preach What You Practice by Ronald Barnes Pdf

What does it mean to be religious? Religious ethical morality is not just a Sunday set aside, or a social protocol to conform to peer group expectations, nor should religion be used as a refuge of forgiveness for negative actions that do not change. It is important to respect the religion of others even if you do not agree with their teachings. However, without a basic knowledge of other religions, there is no basis for evaluation other than hear say and ignorance, which are not rational foundations for evaluation. Because the voice of women is diminished by men who devalue the contribution of women or men who attempt to dictate and define what should be the womans role and contribution. As a result, the world lacks the moral input of women, who are considered the moral exemplar for humanity, even by many male religious leaders.

Preparing for the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism by Institute of Medicine,Board on Neuroscience and Behavioral Health,Committee on Responding to the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism Pdf

The Oklahoma City bombing, intentional crashing of airliners on September 11, 2001, and anthrax attacks in the fall of 2001 have made Americans acutely aware of the impacts of terrorism. These events and continued threats of terrorism have raised questions about the impact on the psychological health of the nation and how well the public health infrastructure is able to meet the psychological needs that will likely result. Preparing for the Psychological Consequences of Terrorism highlights some of the critical issues in responding to the psychological needs that result from terrorism and provides possible options for intervention. The committee offers an example for a public health strategy that may serve as a base from which plans to prevent and respond to the psychological consequences of a variety of terrorism events can be formulated. The report includes recommendations for the training and education of service providers, ensuring appropriate guidelines for the protection of service providers, and developing public health surveillance for preevent, event, and postevent factors related to psychological consequences.

Patriotism, Partition and the Persecuted by Debal K. SinghaRoy Pdf

This book explores the theme of continuous wreaking of brutal persecution of a Hindu family on the one hand and the uncompromising efforts of Muslim friends and neighbours to protect this family on the other. It is set against the resultant and barbaric forces let loose after the propagation of the two nation theory, and the ultimate partition of India in 1947. Based on the soical biography of a Hindu family that stayed back in East Pakistan, it traces their journey, how they became 'other' in the country of their birth and faced persecution. This, being branded the other, led to part of the family migrating to Inida, away from their natal roots. The 1965 India-Pakistan war further brought prolonged separation and sufferings for these half-families living on both sides of the borders. Subjecting one to encounter helplessness, uncertainty and poverty in India, and the other to state sponsored apathy, coercion, arrests and physical tortures. The vicious atmosphere of violent communal aggression though did not stop their Muslim friends from protecting them. When the Muslim friend was killed by the religious fanatics in the newly liberated Bangladesh, the left behind member of the Hindu family realized that it was time to leave their motherland for India, where they died with the desire to go back to their motherland, buried along with them. Despite prolonged violence and tragic separation thereafter, numerous memories of the self-sacrificing efforts of the compatriots served as recollection in collective living in the Indian subcontinent.

War and Conflict Quotations by Michael C. Thomsett,Jean Freestone Thomsett Pdf

History is replete with pronouncements on war. Some reflect on man’s warlike nature (“We are quick to flare up, we races of men on the earth”—Homer); others deal with the practical strategies of the combatants (“If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons”—Winston Churchill); and still others offer advice for avoiding conflict (“The most disadvantageous peace is better than the most just war”—Desiderius Erasmus). More than 2,700 quotations on war and conflict are presented in this reference work. The quotations are arranged by more than 100 broad categories, from action to winning. For each, the quotation is first given, followed by its author, the work in which it appeared (when appropriate), and the date. The book includes numerous cross-references, and keyword-in-context and author indexes are provided for further utility.

Food Fears by Alison Blay-Palmer Pdf

The industrial food system of the West is increasingly perceived as problematic. The physical, social and intellectual distance between consumers and their food stems from a food system that privileges quantity and efficiency over quality, with an underlying assumption that food is a commodity, rather than a source of nourishment and pleasure. In the wake of various food and health scares, there is a growing demand from consumers to change the food they eat, which in turn acts as a catalyst for the industry to adapt and for alternative systems to evolve. Drawing on a wealth of empirical research into mainstream and alternative North American food systems, this book discusses how sustainable, grass roots, local food systems offer a template for meaningful individual activism as a way to bring about change from the bottom up, while at the same time creating pressure for policy changes at all levels of government. This movement signals a shift away from market economy principles and reflects a desire to embody social and ecological values as the foundation for future growth.

Refreshing Hope in God by Judy Dippel Pdf

The love we hold in our hearts for our children is a beautiful "glimpse of heaven," and one that creates emotions of every shape and size. In that love, we laugh and cry, stretch and grow. Where do you turn when you experience unexpected post-partum depression? How do you hold on to the goodness you know to be at the core of your child, when there is little outside evidence? What do you do when your children's choices have them dangling on the edge, and you, too, as you hold on to them with all the strength you can muster? My answers came through Jesus Christ. If parenting books only add to your guilt and frustration, this is the book for you, because God will meet you wherever you are.

Understanding Securitisation Theory by Thierry Balzacq Pdf

This volume aims to provide a new framework for the analysis of securitization processes, increasing our understanding of how security issues emerge, evolve and dissolve. Securitisation theory has become one of the key components of security studies and IR courses in recent years, and this book represents the first attempt to provide an integrated and rigorous overview of securitization practices within a coherent framework. To do so, it organizes securitization around three core assumptions which make the theory applicable to empirical studies: the centrality of audience, the co-dependency of agency and context and the structuring force of the dispositif. These assumptions are then investigated through discourse analysis, process-tracing, ethnographic research, and content analysis and discussed in relation to extensive case studies. This innovative new book will be of much interest to students of securitisation and critical security studies, as well as IR theory and sociology. Thierry Balzacq is holder of the Tocqueville Chair on Security Policies and Professor at the University of Namur. He is Research Director at the University of Louvain and Associate Researcher at the Centre for European Studies at Sciences Po Paris.
