Diary of a Young Naturalist by Dara McAnulty Pdf

A BuzzFeed "Best Book of June 2021" From sixteen-year-old Dara McAnulty, a globally renowned figure in the youth climate activist movement, comes a memoir about loving the natural world and fighting to save it. Diary of a Young Naturalist chronicles the turning of a year in Dara’s Northern Ireland home patch. Beginning in spring?when “the sparrows dig the moss from the guttering and the air is as puffed out as the robin’s chest?these diary entries about his connection to wildlife and the way he sees the world are vivid, evocative, and moving. As well as Dara’s intense connection to the natural world, Diary of a Young Naturalist captures his perspective as a teenager juggling exams, friendships, and a life of campaigning. We see his close-knit family, the disruptions of moving and changing schools, and the complexities of living with autism. “In writing this book,” writes Dara, “I have experienced challenges but also felt incredible joy, wonder, curiosity and excitement. In sharing this journey my hope is that people of all generations will not only understand autism a little more but also appreciate a child’s eye view on our delicate and changing biosphere.” Winner of the Wainwright Prize for UK nature writing and already sold into more than a dozen territories, Diary of a Young Naturalist is a triumphant debut from an important new voice.

Unknown 9: Genesis: Book One of the Genesis Trilogy by Layton Green Pdf

To solve the enigma of her past, a brilliant but troubled young woman joins a deadly global treasure hunt. Strange hallucinations have plagued PhD student Andie Robertson throughout her life. After years of consulting doctors, she decided the visions were a glitch in her own mind—until her mentor, the famous physicist Dr. James Corwin, is murdered in Italy, and Andie finds a stack of ink drawings in his office that bear a remarkable resemblance to her hallucinations. Shocked, Andie digs deeper and learns that Dr. Corwin developed a device that might shed light on the very nature of reality. She is even more stunned to discover that her mother, an academic who disappeared when Andie was a young girl, might also be involved. Determined to find answers, Andie follows a trail of clues placed by Dr. Corwin, for reasons unknown, in museums and cultural sites around the world, highlighting human achievement as well as a tapestry of secret knowledge woven into the threads of history. Yet Andie is not the only one searching. Powerful forces know of her mentor's invention, including a mysterious elite society that spans borders and will stop at nothing to find the device. Now a target herself, Andie and a disgraced journalist embark on a perilous journey that might hold the key to a new frontier of knowledge—and which also promises to unlock the doors of her past. From the author of the bestselling Dominic Grey novels, Genesis is a mind-bending thriller about how far two people will go for answers, and to save the ones they love.

Horizon Unknown by Jensen La Coste Pdf

“Journey to a New Life” in a nutshell: Easy life Disaster Bankruptcy Disaster New life? This is a story that starts as factual, describing in some detail how I lost nearly £1,000,000 of other people’s money and £750,000 of my own because of a change in the law, which my expensive solicitors didn’t tell me about! The fat cats of both the legal and accountancy profession then milked the situation, and as far as I know, investors got nothing back, despite the intervention of the Financial Services Authority. I say despite it all, it was probably because of their initial intervention the investors lost everything! Anyway, the story then descends into adventurous half-truths, stretched imagination, and a huge amount of wishful thinking. Some names have been changed to protect the innocent, some haven’t, and others are by inference only. Some place names, distances, and locations have been slightly modified to suit the second part of the story, but you can actually follow my journey across part of France either by bike, car, or if you so wished, on foot, and as you pass, certain features will be recognizable.

Taming the Unknown by Victor J. Katz,Karen Hunger Parshall Pdf

What is algebra? For some, it is an abstract language of x's and y’s. For mathematics majors and professional mathematicians, it is a world of axiomatically defined constructs like groups, rings, and fields. Taming the Unknown considers how these two seemingly different types of algebra evolved and how they relate. Victor Katz and Karen Parshall explore the history of algebra, from its roots in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, China, and India, through its development in the medieval Islamic world and medieval and early modern Europe, to its modern form in the early twentieth century. Defining algebra originally as a collection of techniques for determining unknowns, the authors trace the development of these techniques from geometric beginnings in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and classical Greece. They show how similar problems were tackled in Alexandrian Greece, in China, and in India, then look at how medieval Islamic scholars shifted to an algorithmic stage, which was further developed by medieval and early modern European mathematicians. With the introduction of a flexible and operative symbolism in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, algebra entered into a dynamic period characterized by the analytic geometry that could evaluate curves represented by equations in two variables, thereby solving problems in the physics of motion. This new symbolism freed mathematicians to study equations of degrees higher than two and three, ultimately leading to the present abstract era. Taming the Unknown follows algebra’s remarkable growth through different epochs around the globe.

Visit any of the approximately 150 national military cemeteries in the United States, and collectively you will find nearly 1,000,000 headstones marking the final resting place of U.S. Military personnel killed in battles beginning with the Civil War to the present. Spend an extra few minutes reading the names on the headstones, and you will find representatives of every ethnic, religious, geographic, and societal group existing in America today. Their names, dates of birth and death, their military rank and last unit, and their home state are clearly carved in stone. That's only half the story. Lift your eyes, look around, and you will see other identical headstones--identical in shape and size but different in that these stones bear no name except "Unknown."
