Using ISO 9001 in Healthcare by James M. Levett,Robert G. Burney Pdf

ISO 9001 offers an orderly, disciplined approach to managing a healthcare organization. When applied conscientiously, an ISO management system will provide a framework for improvement efforts and the discipline to demonstrate outcomes. A lot has changed since the first edition of this book was published in June of 2011. Most notably, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed and is being implemented throughout the country. Although the long-term effects of the ACA will not be determined for several years, it is clear that most Americans will be affected in some way and that that the provider and payer communities are undergoing rapid changes. Even amongst all this uncertainty, the challenges faced by provider organizations can be dealt with most effectively by using an ISO 9001 quality management system. Each of the authors in this book has instituted ISO 9001:2008 as a management system: one in a multi-specialty group practice, the other in a global government healthcare system. Their reasons were different, but in both cases, they established a management system that could respond to diverse needs without adding expenses to their organizations.

Using ISO 9001 in Healthcare by James M. Levett,Robert G. Burney Pdf

Healthcare providers deal with quality concepts and tools on a regular basis, but the idea of a quality system or quality management system (QMS) is not a familiar term. Most are familiar with control charts, Lean, the PDSA cycle, Six Sigma, and the Baldrige criteria, but ISO 9001 is not usually recognized and most have no experience with a systematic program to implement quality objectives within an organization. This book explains the overall value of an ISO 9001 based QMS, its value in implementing a quality culture within an organization, using other quality tools within the ISO framework, clinical integration, accreditation, and performance improvement. Several case studies of ISO implementation in healthcare organizations are described, including a large multi-specialty group, a community hospital and hospital system, and the State Department Medical Unit in D.C.

Bridging Research and Good Practices towards Patients Welfare by Yuh-Chuan Shih,Sheau-Farn Max Liang Pdf

Ergonomics is a human-centered discipline. This is particularly true for healthcare systems and patient safety where the human’s well-being will undergo critical impacts if solutions are not properly designed and practiced. Effective handling of these concerns involves knowledge from healthcare work (e.g., shift work, patient handling, and medical teamwork), to safety research (resilience, medical process control, intensive care, surgery/anesthesiology, and patient involvement), and to more general issues such as community participation in public affairs. To pursue the mission, the Healthcare System Ergonomics and Patient Safety (HEPS) commenced its first conference in Florence, Italy in 2005. Following the founding success, HEPS became an IEA-sponsored event and the series subsequently took place in Strasbourg, France in 2008, and in Oviedo, Spain in 2011. The three remarkable conferences have forged a world-class platform for researchers and practitioners from around the globe to exchange and disseminate the knowledge in HEPS. This volume contains the selected papers presented at the Fourth International conference on HEPS, held from June 23 to 26, 2014 in Taiwan. The Fourth HEPS, organized by the Ergonomics Society of Taiwan (EST) and endorsed by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA), aims to consolidate the knowledge bridged between ergonomics research and healthcare practices for the safety and welfare of patients. Researchers, professionals, and practitioners in ergonomics and healthcare around the world have shared their wisdom, experience, insights, and visions on past, current and future efforts in healthcare systems ergonomics and patient safety. The papers contributing to this book address the latest research, applications and practices in accordance with the theme of the conference, "Bridging Research and Good Practices towards Patients Welfare," and cover the following areas: "Aging and Healthcare System", "Healthcare, Mobil Application and Usability", "Safety, Hazards and MSDs", "Simulation, Modeling and Decision Making", "Environment and System Design", and "Human Factors and Product Design".

MEDINFO 2021: One World, One Health — Global Partnership for Digital Innovation by P. Otero,P. Scott,S.Z. Martin Pdf

The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”, and its constitution also asserts that health for all people is “dependent on the fullest co-operation of individuals and States”. The ongoing pandemic has highlighted the power of both healthy and unhealthy information, so while healthcare and public health services have depended upon timely and accurate data and continually updated knowledge, social media has shown how unhealthy misinformation can be spread and amplified, reinforcing existing prejudices, conspiracy theories and political biases. This book presents the proceedings of MedInfo 2021, the 18th World Congress of Medical and Health Informatics, held as a virtual event from 2-4 October 2021, with pre-recorded presentations for all accepted submissions. The theme of the conference was One World, One Health – Global Partnership for Digital Innovation and submissions were requested under 5 themes: information and knowledge management; quality, safety and outcomes; health data science; human, organizational and social aspects; and global health informatics. The Programme Committee received 352 submissions from 41 countries across all IMIA regions, and 147 full papers, 60 student papers and 79 posters were accepted for presentation after review and are included in these proceedings. Providing an overview of current work in the field over a wide range of disciplines, the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves some aspect of medical or health informatics.
