Potato Cytology and Genetics by H. W. Howard Pdf
A. PREVIOUS REVIEWS The review by Sw AMI NATHAN and HOWARD (1953) on "The Cytology and Genetics of the Potato (Solanum tuberosum) and Related Species" provides a convenient starting place for a consideration of recent advances in our knowledge of the cytology and genetics of potatoes. Taken together with FRUWIRTH (1925) and SWAMI NATHAN and HOWARD (1953), the present compilation should give a comprehensive survey of published work to the middle of 1959. In assembling the data for this review, use has been made of "Plant Breeding Abstracts," starting with Volume 22, No. 1 (January, 1952) and ending with Volume 29, No. 4 (October 1959). In these eight volumes of "Plant Breeding Abstracts" there are about 1,400 ab stracts in the potato section. However, because many of these ab stracts are concerned only with potato breeding and variety testing, it has been possible to reduce the number of references in the bibli ography to just over 600, about 50 of which are not to be found in the potato section of "Plant Breeding Abstracts. " It is to be expected in compiling a review of this size that there must be some omissions and mistakes. The author apologises for these, and he would be pleased to be informed of them. B. Ecology of Root Pathogens by S.V. Krupa Pdf
Ecology of Root Pathogens discusses the significance of fungi infecting the roots, and emphasizes the significant diseases of roots and their symptoms. This book also names the genera and species of fungi that cause diseases of roots, and classifies and characterizes the root and pathogen interaction in soil. The book describes the behavior of plant pathogenic bacteria, such as Agrobacterium, Corynebacterium, Xanthomonas, Pseudomonas, Erwinia, and Streptomyces. It also explores how plants and plant-produced stimuli affect the associated population of plant parasitic nematodes and how these plant parasitic nematodes affect higher plants in certain ways. In addition, this book discusses the morphology, classification, nomenclature, multiplication and translocation of viruses infecting the plants. It also describes the symptoms of the virus infection in roots. The book includes a discussion on the fundamentals of biological control, which include the pathosystem concept, the behavior of the soil microflora in the soil, the reservoirs for infection, the processes of pathogen decline, and the integrated effects on the decline of the pathogen. This discussion on biological control also presents the natural and artificially induced biological control. This book will be of great value to soil microbiologists and plant pathologists.

Plant Water Consumption and Response by T.T. Kozlowski Pdf
Water Deficits and Plant Growth, Volume II: Plant Water Consumption and Response focuses on internal water deficits in plants, the measurement for such deficits, and the identification of physiological and growth responses of herbaceous and woody plants to water deficiency. Partitioned into six chapters, the book discusses the rate of water consumption of agricultural plants. Concerns in this part include evapotranspiration, characteristics of plants, and climate. The discussions move on to the study of water consumption in forests. The methods used in the research, the theoretical considerations, and a review of the results are also discussed. The next part focuses on the relationship of water deficits and physiological processes. This part also introduces the discussions on the effect of water deficiency on the growth of herbaceous plants and trees, including the emergence of diseases related to water deficiency. The book is a valuable source of data for readers who are interested in pursuing studies on the effect of water deficiency on the growth of plants.

Verticillium Wilts by G. F. Pegg,B L Brady Pdf
The genus Verticillium Nees represents one of the world's major fungal pathogens, affecting crop plants mostly in the cool and warm temperate regions, it also occurs in sub-tropical and tropical areas. There are some six species which cause severe wilting in trees, herbaceous plants and plantation crops. Other species are responsible for non-wilt diseases of banana and mushroom, another species infects insects. The monograph provides a comprehensive reference source on Verticillium, enabling research workers to see what has already been achieved and to identify the many new areas of research in which original contributions could be made to further the understanding and control of this important pathogen and the disease it causes.
