Violent Acts by Severino João Medeiros Albuquerque Pdf

Albuquerque analyzes the use of violence in Latin American theatre from the 1950s through the 1980s. He argues that in the face of repression and torture, some playwrights counter victimization with art as urgent as street confrontation. A study from both Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries. Violent Criminal Acts and Actors Revisited by Lonnie H. Athens Pdf

Rather than finding the causes of criminal behavior in external forces or personality disorders, as conventional wisdom often does, the author renews his fundamental argument that a violent situation comes into being when defined by an individual as a situation that calls for violence -- that an actor responds to the circumstance as he or she defines it. Based on the author's many firsthand interviews with offenders and on his personal experience, this book augments his call to reexamine the source and locus of violent criminal behavior.

Opening statements were made by the following U.S. Senators (in order): Ernest F. Hollings, John C. Danforth, J. James Exon, Conrad Burns, Byron L. Dorgan, John F. Clinical Prediction of Violent Behavior (The Master Work Series) by John Monahan, Shannon Distinguished Professor of Law, Psychology, and Psychiatry, University of Virginia Pdf

As therapists are increasingly held legally responsible for failing to predict their client''s violent behaviour, the pressure to know and forecast behaviour - never the chosen domain of clinicians - has risen. Worries about potential law suits invade the therapeutic setting. The volume enables therapists to master the proven signs of potentially harmful acts, so that they can get back to the work they were trained for: helping people.

The Social Context of Violent Behaviour by Emanuel Marx Pdf

First published in 1976. Violent behaviour occurs in every society. It grows out of the social order and can therefore be understood only in a social context. This book examines an orderly and relatively tranquil society, a small Israeli town settled by new immigrants, which is run by public agencies who pour in their resources to maintain the inhabitants. Circumstances have made the town an egalitarian society, but also limit its members' economic opportunities. This society has produced its special combinations of violent behaviour. The analysis extensively employs the 'case method' which has increasingly been used by social anthropologists.

Serious and Violent Juvenile Offenders by Rolf Loeber,David P. Farrington Pdf

Detailed and comprehensive, Serious and Violent Juvenile Offenders presents authoritative discussions by a select group of leading scholars on issues surrounding serious and violent juvenile offenders. This population is responsible for a disproportionate percentage of all crime and poses the greatest challenge to juvenile justice policymakers. Under the skillful editorship of Rolf Loeber and David P. Farrington, this unique volume integrates knowledge about risk and protective factors with information about intervention and prevention programs so that conclusions from each area can inform the other. Current literature on these two areas does not, for the most part, apply directly to serious and violent juvenile offenders. This volume contends that serious and violent juvenile offenders tend to start displaying behavior problems and delinquency early in life, warranting early intervention. It is the contributors' thesis that prevention is never too early. They also maintain, however, that interventions for serious and violent juvenile offenders can never be too late in that effective interventions exist for known serious and violent juvenile offenders. Augmented by charts, tables, graphs, figures, and an extensive bibliography, Serious and Violent Juvenile Offenders is an excellent reference work and a must read for policy and lawmakers, judges, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, education administrators, researchers, academics, social workers, sociologists, as well as graduate students and interns.

Mental Disorder and Crime by Sheilagh Hodgins Pdf

Contributors to this volume present and discuss new data which suggest that major mental disorder substantially increases the risk of violent crime. These findings come at a crucial time, since those who suffer from mental disorders are increasingly living in the community, rather than in institutions. The book describes the magnitude and complexity of the problem and offers hope that humane, effective intervention can prevent violent crime being committed by the seriously mentally disordered.
