Virtual Driving School by Phill Godridge Pdf

Introducing Virtual Driving School... Manual plus Online Video Library. This manual, combined with the online videos, covers nearly everything you need to know about how to get your driving right... so you can be fully prepared to tackle the driving test with ability and confidence. Here's a sneak peek at what you'll discover inside: The Basics of Car Control: For those of you who have never sat in the driving seat before, I'm going to start from the very beginning... the car controls. Then I'll explain, and literally show you, how to pull away, change gear, park and steer. I'll cover each of these essential skills step-by-step and demonstrate exactly what to do and how to do it. Dealing with Basic Junctions: A basic junction is a T-Junction. It's the simplest way to get from one road into another and forms the basis of all driving skills. In this section I'll show you how to emerge from and enter side-roads safely and correctly. The simple routine I'll demonstrate will be used for all other junctions you see, no matter how complicated they appear. Dealing with Roundabouts: Although roundabouts can seem intimidating and often very busy, the way to deal with them effectively is to stick to the basics! In this section I'll not only explain what I mean by that... I'll show you. Roundabouts DO NOT have to be scary, in fact after using my simple methods, my own pupils don't see roundabouts any differently to the other simple junctions... and that's how it should be. Dealing with Traffic Light Controlled junctions: No matter how well a junction was designed, as soon as you put too many cars in the picture it stops working. That is why traffic lights were invented... They make difficult junctions easy. In this section I'll prove to you how easy it can be to drive through traffic light controlled junctions... no matter how busy the roads get. Dealing with Everyday Hazards: Hazard perception is a big part of learning to drive these days. You need to pass your hazard perception test along with your theory test before you can even attempt a practical driving test. But does passing the 'virtual' test mean you know how to deal with a hazard once you've spotted it? In this section I'll demonstrate a simple technique for dealing with almost ANY road and traffic hazard effectively... and I'll give you lots of examples. Dealing with Multiple Lanes and Higher Speeds: Most learners are a little nervous about driving at high speed, and with good reason. Your reactions need to be quick when your car is travelling at 70mph and your nerves need to be steady. This section shows you what to expect and how to cope with the very different driving experience offered by fast dual-carriageways. I'll cover slip roads, multiple lane roundabouts and overtaking procedures. I hope to show you that the right preparation and approach to high speed driving can give you the confidence to stay safe and enjoy the experience. Driving Test Manoeuvres: The final section dispels the myths about those dreaded set piece manoeuvres. You know... The three-point-turn, reversing around corners, parallel parking, bay parking and the emergency stop. I am so tired of hearing pupils say they 'can't reverse' or 'can't park'. Why not? My guess is they haven't been taught by example, or had the steering technique properly explained to them. OK some will still struggle, but I GUARANTEE by watching these examples a few times over you will find the process of learning to drive easier... or your money back.

Handbook of Driving Simulation for Engineering, Medicine, and Psychology by Donald L. Fisher,Matthew Rizzo,Jeffrey Caird,John D. Lee Pdf

Effective use of driving simulators requires considerable technical and methodological skill along with considerable background knowledge. Acquiring the requisite knowledge and skills can be extraordinarily time consuming, yet there has been no single convenient and comprehensive source of information on the driving simulation research being conducted around the world. A how-to-do-it resource for researchers and professionals, Handbook of Driving Simulation for Engineering, Medicine, and Psychology brings together discussions of technical issues in driving simulation with broad areas in which driving simulation is now playing a role. The chapters explore technical considerations, methodological issues, special and impaired populations, evaluation of in-vehicle and nomadic devices, and infrastructure evaluations. It examines hardware and software selection, visual database and scenario development, independent subject variables and dependent vehicle, environmental, and psychological variables, statistical and biostatistical analysis, different types of drivers, existing and future key-in vehicle devises, and validation of research. A compilation of the research from more than 100 of the world's top thinkers and practitioners, the book covers basic and advanced technical topics and provides a comprehensive review of the issues related to driving simulation. It describes literally hundreds of different simulation scenarios, provides color photographs of those scenarios, and makes available select videos of the scenarios on an accompanying web site, all of which should prove essential for seasoned researchers and for individuals new to driving simulation.

Driving in Virtual Reality by Björn Blissing Pdf

In the last decades, there has been a substantial increase in the development of complex active safety systems for automotive vehicles. These systems need to be tested for verification and validation to ensure that the system intervenes in the correct situations using the correct measures. There are multiple methods available to perform such testing. Software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing offer effective driverless testing. Other methods increase the fidelity by including human drivers, such as driving simulators and experiments performed at test tracks. This thesis examines vehicle-in-the-loop testing, an innovative method where the driver of a real vehicle wears a head-mounted display that displays virtual targets. This method combines the benefits of driving simulators with the benefits of using a real vehicle on a test track. Driving simulators offer repeatability, safety, and the possibility of complex interactions between actors. In contrast, the real vehicle provides the correct vehicle dynamics and motion feedback. There is a need to know how the technology behind the method might influence the results from vehicle-in-the-loop testing. Two techniques for vehicle-in-the-loop systems are studied. The first involves video-see through head-mounted displays, where the focus of the research is on the effects of visual latency on driving behavior. The results show that lateral driving behavior changes with added latency, but longitudinal behavior appears unaffected. The second system uses an opaque head-mounted display in an entirely virtual world. The research shows that this solution changes speed perception and results in a significant degradation in performance of tasks dependent on visual acuity. This research presents results that are relevant to consider when developing vehicle-in-the-loop platforms. The results are also applicable when choosing scenarios for this test method.
