Viscoplastic Flow in Solids Produced by Shear Banding by Ryszard B. Pecherski Pdf

VISCOPLASTIC FLOW IN SOLIDS PRODUCED BYSHEAR BANDING A complete overview of the topic of viscoplastic flow in solids produced by shear banding This book presents novel ideas about inelastic deformation and failure of solids in a clear, concise manner. It exposes readers to information that will allow them to acquire the competence and ability to deal with up-to-date manufacturing and failure processes. It also portrays a new understanding of deformation processes. Finally, shear banding’s typical mechanism becomes the active cause of viscoplastic flow and not the passive effect. Viscoplastic Flow in Solids Produced by Shear Banding begins by discussing the new physical model of multilevel hierarchy and the evolution of micro-shear bands. In conclusion, it examines the difficulties of applying a direct multiscale integration scheme and extends the representative volume element (RVE) concept using the general theory of the singular surfaces of the microscopic velocity field sweeping out the RVE. This book reveals a new formulation of the shear strain rate generated by the consecutive systems of shear bands in the workflow integration approach. This book: Presents fresh ideas about inelastic deformation and failure of materials Provides readers with the ability to deal with up-to-date manufacturing and failure processes Sheds light on the interdisciplinary view of deformation processes in solids Viscoplastic Flow in Solids Produced by Shear Banding will appeal to researchers studying physical foundations of inelastic behaviour and failure of solid materials, dealing with analysis and numerical simulations of manufacturing forming processes. It is also an excellent resource for graduate and postgraduate students of material science and mechanical engineering faculties.

This book resulted from a series of lecture notes presented in CISM, Udine in July 7 -11, 2008. The papers inform about recent advances in continuum damage mechanics for both metals and metal matrix composites as well as the micromechanics of localization in inelastic solids. Also many of the different constitutive damage models that have recently appeared in the literature and the different approaches to this topic are presented, making them easily accessible to researchers and graduate students in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, aerospace engineering, and material science.

Localization and Fracture Phenomena in Inelastic Solids by Piotr Perzyna Pdf

The book contains the discussion of some important aspects of localization and fracture phenomena in inelastic solids (single crystals, polycrystalline solids and geological materials). Physical and experimental foundations of crystal plasticity are given. Constitutive modelling of dissipative solids for description of localization and fracture is presented. Various regularization methods for solution of the initial-boundary value problems are outlined. Numerical solutions based on finite element method of practicular evolution problems with localization of plastic deformation are considered.

Adiabatic Shear Localization by Bradley Dodd,Yilong Bai Pdf

Adiabatic shear localization is a mode of failure that occurs in dynamic loading. It is characterized by thermal softening occurring over a very narrow region of a material and is usually a precursor to ductile fracture and catastrophic failure. This reference source is the revised and updated version of the first detailed study of the mechanics and modes of adiabatic shear localization in solids. Building on the success of the first edition, the book provides a systematic description of a number of aspects of adiabatic shear banding. The concepts and techniques described in this work can usefully be applied to solve a multitude of problems encountered by those investigating fracture and damage in materials, impact dynamics, metal working and other areas. Specific chapters focus on energetic materials, polymers, bulk metal glasses, and the mathematics of shear banding as well as the numerical modeling of them. With its detailed coverage of the subject, this book is of great interest to academics and researchers into materials performance as well as professionals. Up-to-date coverage of the subject and research that has occurred over the past 20 years Each chapter is written on a different sub-field of adiabatic shear by an acknowledged expert in the field Detailed and clear discussions of each aspect

Semi-Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites X by Gerhard Hirt,Ahmed Rassili,Andreas Bührig-Polaczek Pdf

Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). This special volume is dedicated to the science and technology of the semi-solid processing of metals. Since the recognition of the possibility of manipulating metals in the semi-solid state, during the seventies, this fascinating technology has experienced dynamic development and has led to a whole family of new production processes, new equipment and industrial applications. In order to exploit fully the technical and economic potential of these new ideas, it is important to achieve a better understanding of the microstructural development and flow behavior in order to improve material and process modelling as well as process control.

The Physics and Mathematics of Adiabatic Shear Bands by T. W. Wright Pdf

This book is a research monograph on the material instability known as adiabatic shear banding which often occurs in a plastically deforming material as it undergoes rapid shearing. Plastic deformation generates heat, which eventually softens most materials with continued straining, a process which is usually unstable. In this case the instability results in thin regions of highly deformed material, which are often the sites of further damage and complete failure. The main body of the book examines a series of one-dimensional problems of increasing complexity. In this way a comprehensive and quantitative picture of the complete phenomena is built up. Particular care is taken to use well established asymptotic techniques to find simple, but universal, analytic expressions or scaling laws that encapsulate various aspects of the dynamic formation and the final morphology of shear bands. A fully developed mechanics of shear is just beginning to emerge as a major companion to fracture mechanics, this book may speed the process along.

IUTAM Symposium on Micromechanics of Plasticity and Damage of Multiphase Materials by André Pineau,André Zaoui Pdf

The IUT AM Symposium on "Micromechanics of Plasticity and Damage of Multiphase Materials" was held in Sevres, Paris, France, 29 August - 1 September 1995. The Symposium was attended by 83 persons from 18 countries. In addition 17 young French students attended the meeting. During the 4 day meeting, a total of 55 papers were presented, including 24 papers in the poster sessions. The meeting was divided into 7 oral and 3 poster sessions. The 7 oral sessions were the following: - Plasticity and Viscoplasticity I and II; - Phase transformations; - Damage I and II; - Statistical and geometrical aspects; - Cracks and interfaces. Each poster session was introduced by a Rapporteur, as follows: - Session I (Plasticity and Viscoplasticity): G. Cailletaud; - Session 2 (Damage): D. Franc;:ois; - Session 3 (Phase transformation; statistical and geometrical aspects): D. Jeulin. The main purpose of the Symposium was the discussion of the state of the art in the development of micromechanical models used to predict the macroscopic mechanical behaviour of mUltiphase solid materials. These materials consist of at least two chemically different phases, present either initially or formed during plastic deformation, when a strain-induced phase transformation takes place. One session was devoted to the latter case. Continuously strengthened composite materials, containing long fibers, were out of the scope of the Symposium.
