Visual Affect Recognition by Ioanna-Ourania Stathopoulou Pdf

It is generally known that human faces, as well as body motions and gestures, provide a wealth of information about a person, such as age, race, sex and emotional state. This monograph primarily studies the perception of facial expression of emotion, and secondarily of motion and gestures, with the purpose of developing a fully automated visual affect recognition system for use in modes of human/computer interaction. The book begins with a survey of the literature on emotion perception, followed by a decription of empirical studies conducted with human participants and the construction of a face image database . On the basis of this work, a visual affect recognition system was developed, consisting of two modules: a face detection subsystem and a facia expression recognition subsystem. Details of this system are demonstrated and analyzed, and extensive performance evaluations and test results are provided. Finally, current research avenues leading to visual affect recognition via analysis of body motin and gestures are also discussed."

Comparison of different features sets and classifiers for emotion recognition of speech by Tobias Gruber Pdf

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2014 in the subject Electrotechnology, grade: 1,0, University of Stuttgart (Institut für Signalverarbeitung und Systemtheorie), course: Elektrotechnik und Informationstechnik, language: English, abstract: This thesis deals with emotion recognition from speech signals using several feature sets and classifiers. Feature sets with different sizes are compared: the feature set of the Institute for Signal Processing and System Theory as well as standardised feature sets of eight paralinguistic challenges. The question is whether there is a connection between the size of a feature set and the performance. The feature sets are investigated with SFFS and without in combination with Naive Bayes classifier, k-Nearest-Neighbour classifier and Support Vector Machine. The goal of this thesis is to find those features which are selected most commonly for good performance.

Research and Development in Intelligent Systems XXVI by Richard Ellis,Miltos Petridis Pdf

The most common document formalisation for text classi?cation is the vector space model founded on the bag of words/phrases representation. The main advantage of the vector space model is that it can readily be employed by classi?cation - gorithms. However, the bag of words/phrases representation is suited to capturing only word/phrase frequency; structural and semantic information is ignored. It has been established that structural information plays an important role in classi?cation accuracy [14]. An alternative to the bag of words/phrases representation is a graph based rep- sentation, which intuitively possesses much more expressive power. However, this representation introduces an additional level of complexity in that the calculation of the similarity between two graphs is signi?cantly more computationally expensive than between two vectors (see for example [16]). Some work (see for example [12]) has been done on hybrid representations to capture both structural elements (- ing the graph model) and signi?cant features using the vector model. However the computational resources required to process this hybrid model are still extensive.
