Walks Near Edinburgh (Classic Reprint) by Margaret Warrender Pdf

Excerpt from Walks Near Edinburgh Bruntisfield is the last of the Old houses in the immediate vicinity Of Edinburgh which is still in habited by its owners. Merchiston Castle and the Grange are let the Wryteshouse has long disappeared but Bruntisfield, in spite of recent additions and alterations, still preserves much of the character of the semi-fortified mansion, with protecting outworks, which centuries ago frowned over the Boroughmuir. Its antiquity is even more apparent inside than out side, from the thickness of the walls, the diversities of the levels, and the steep little turret stairs. On Some Antiquities in the Neighbourhood of Dunecht House Aberdeenshire (Classic Reprint) by George Forrest Browne Pdf

Excerpt from On Some Antiquities in the Neighbourhood of Dunecht House Aberdeenshire It was known to the archaeologist that there were ogam inscriptions in the district, two Of them being among the most important in Caledonia; and that within an easy motor drive there was a minuscule inscription of six lines Of which no satisfactory explanation had been given. This inscription they had visited in a previous year. Further, the quick eye Of the hostess of Dunecht had caught sight of some curious sculptures on a stone by the road-side on the way to the minus cule inscription; and other like stones in the neighbourhood had been shewn in Stuart's two volumes of Sculptural Stones of Scotland. The suggestion was then made that for the sake of visitors at Dunecht a sort Of guide book should be prepared, giving some simple description of the several Objects and their meaning and uses. Romantic Edinburgh (Classic Reprint) by John Geddie Pdf

Excerpt from Romantic Edinburgh IN bringing out, for the Coronation Year of George V., a new and revised edition of this book, acknow ledgment has to be made to Bailie Macfarlane, Convener of the Museum Committee of the Town Council, for permission to reproduce, in colour or in black-and-white, a selection of the views of Old Edinburgh, in which the Municipal Museum is so rich. Thanks have also to be given to Mr T. L. Usher, of the Park Brewery, for leave to reproduce the water-colour drawing of Edinburgh, in the Opening year of the reign of Queen Victoria, that is to be found at page 212. The growth of the City and the removal of ancient landmarks in the interval since the first edition appeared, have rendered necessary many additions and alterations. Doubtless there are errors that remain uncorrected. It is hoped, however, that the volume provides - brought up to date - a Vaa'e Macaw which the explorer of Edinburgh can take with him on his walks, or profitably peruse at the fireside. “I Will Walk Among You” by G. Geoffrey Harper Pdf

The well-known parallels between Genesis and Leviticus invite further reflection, particularly in regard to the rhetorical and theological purpose of their lexical, syntactical, and conceptual correspondences. This volume investigates the possibility that the final-form text of Leviticus is an indirect reference to Genesis 1–3 and examines the rhetorical significance of such an allusion. The face of Pentateuch scholarship has shifted dramatically in the last forty years, resulting in the questioning of many received truths and the employment of a host of new, renewed, and often competing methodologies by biblical scholars. This study sits at the intersection of these recent interpretive trends. G. Geoffrey Harper uses insights from the fields of intertextuality, rhetorical criticism, and speech act theory to create a methodological framework, which he applies to three Leviticus pericopes. Chapters 11, 16, and 26 are examined in turn, and for each the assessment of potential parallels at lexical, syntactical, and conceptual levels reveals a complex web of interconnected allusion to the creation and Eden narratives of Genesis 1 and 2–3. Moreover, Harper probes the theological and rhetorical import of these intertextual connections and explores how Leviticus ought to be understood in its Pentateuchal context. This comprehensive study of the connections between these two sections of the Hebrew Bible sheds light on both the literary artistry of these ancient texts and the persuasive purposes that lie behind their composition.
