The Christian's Duty to Reject Christmas by Thomas Mockett,C. Matthew McMahon Pdf

Mockett’s argument in this work is directed to well-meaning Christians who are defiling the Regulative Principle – that God alone determines the manner and time in which sinners are to approach him. Writing against the, “observation of Christ’s nativity,” Mockett shows the Christian how he is to reject, whole-heartily, adding Christ into Christmas as a religious or worship observance. Mr. Mockett is not going to deal with taking Christ out of Christmas. Instead, he is going to painstakingly demonstrate the ill-use of trying to reclaim Christ for Christmas as an unholy venture. He will show that it is a detestable, sinful practice to put Christ back into Christmas since men have no warrant from God to do so. Though they do this in pretense of honoring Christ in a day of worship, and do so with a sincere heart, as Mockett shows, “Good intentions and well meanings cannot justify any unwarrantable practice.” Mockett’s treatment of this issue is clear and well documented. The student of Scripture and historical theology cannot but come away with believing that reclaiming Christ in Christmas is truly a violation of God’s word, and a sinful practice which has harmed the church throughout its history.

The Universal Christ by Richard Rohr Pdf

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From one of the world’s most influential spiritual thinkers, a long-awaited book exploring what it means that Jesus was called “Christ,” and how this forgotten truth can restore hope and meaning to our lives. “Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.”—Melinda Gates In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Is the word simply Jesus’s last name? Too often, Rohr writes, our understandings have been limited by culture, religious debate, and the human tendency to put ourselves at the center. Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet. Thought-provoking, practical, and full of deep hope and vision, The Universal Christ is a landmark book from one of our most beloved spiritual writers, and an invitation to contemplate how God liberates and loves all that is.

A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

The Counterfeit Christmas by Jeffery Donley Pdf

Much has been said about the birth of Jesus. Come face to face with Mary and Josephas you've never seen them before. Let's unwrap the first Christmas as Jeffery Donley takes you back in time to witness Mary and Joseph's courtship. Stand with Mary before the mighty angelic messenger, Gabriel, as he announces that she will give birth to the Messiah. Hear Mary sing ten stanzasyes, sing! Cry with Mary when Joseph cannot accept her but will privately divorce her. Shout with joy with Mary when Joseph comes to take her home. Walk with Mary and Joseph as you will feel every grueling step to Bethlehem. A cold, damp, stinking, urine/feces-filled room. A burial garment. An animal feed trough. Smell the place where Mary gave birth. Witness what Mary and Joseph used to swaddle baby Jesus. Look where they laid him. Be astonished at what Joseph became! Shiver with Mary as she holds baby Jesus in her arms and sings a lullaby to him. Hear an angelic army sing about the birth of Jesus to shepherds. Tremble in fear with Herod the Great as the Wise Men, the powerful Parthian Megistanes, gallop into Jerusalem. Wake up in the middle of the night and make a strategic trip to Egypt with Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. And rejoice when Joseph, Mary, and Jesus return to Israel. After reading The Counterfeit Christmas, you'll understand the birth of Jesus in a whole new way. After reading this book, your life will not be the same! I have enjoyed my reading and imagining with Jeffery Donley what this most magnificent event of our Lord's birth must have felt like to those who were involved in one of the most astounding events in the celestial and terrestrial world. Here is a narrative that will force moderns to pause and to reflect on the central event in history. Christmas will never remain the same for all who live the story of our Lord's birth once again in the way it is retold here. Jeffery's writing takes a story we all think is so well known it hardly bears repeating, yet Donley puts it so dramatically that it will never seem the same ever again. Interestingly enough, Dr. Donley quietly slips in some great archaeological, linguistic and historical studies that will excite even the average reader. I commend this text wholeheartedly to readers of all ages and abilities. Dr. Walter C. Kaiser, Jr. Biblical Scholar President Emeritus Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

The Origins of Christmas by Joseph F. Kelly Pdf

When was Christmas first celebrated? How did December 25 become the date for the feast? How did the Bible’s “magi from the East” become three kings named Melchior, Caspar, and Balthasar who rode camels from three different continents to worship the newborn Christ? How did the Feast of the Nativity generate an entire liturgical season from Advent to Candlemas? Why did medieval and Renaissance artists portray Joseph as an old man? When did the first Christmas music appear? And who was the real Saint Nicholas? These and many other questions are answered in this revised and expanded edition of The Origins of Christmas. The story of the origins of Christmas is not well known, but it is a fascinating tale. It begins when the first Christians had little interest in Christ’s Nativity, and it finishes when Christmas had become an integral part of Christian life and Western culture. The Origins of Christmas covers a variety of topics in a concise and accessible style, and is suitable for group discussions.
