Advanced Biometric Technologies by Girija Chetty,Jucheng Yang Pdf

The methods for human identity authentication based on biometrics - the physiological and behavioural characteristics of a person have been evolving continuously and seen significant improvement in performance and robustness over the last few years. However, most of the systems reported perform well in controlled operating scenarios, and their performance deteriorates significantly under real world operating conditions, and far from satisfactory in terms of robustness and accuracy, vulnerability to fraud and forgery, and use of acceptable and appropriate authentication protocols. To address some challenges, and the requirements of new and emerging applications, and for seamless diffusion of biometrics in society, there is a need for development of novel paradigms and protocols, and improved algorithms and authentication techniques. This book volume on "Advanced Biometric Technologies" is dedicated to the work being pursued by researchers around the world in this area, and includes some of the recent findings and their applications to address the challenges and emerging requirements for biometric based identity authentication systems. The book consists of 18 Chapters and is divided into four sections namely novel approaches, advanced algorithms, emerging applications and the multimodal fusion. Advanced Computational Approaches for Water Treatment by Krunal M Gangawane,Madhuresh Dwivedi,Praveen Ghodke Pdf

A rapid growth in global industrialization and population has triggered intense environmental pollution that has led to a water crisis, resulting in the decay in the quality of human life and economic losses. Novel water purification techniques are expected to alleviate this challenge. Recently, various water purification techniques, along with different computational techniques, have been developed. For instance, water purification techniques, such as electromagnetic water purification, solute-surface interactions in water, use of micro-magnetofluidic devices, UV-led water purification, and use of membranes can be thoroughly investigated by using a range of computation techniques, such as molecular dynamics, the lattice Boltzmann method, and the Navier-Stokes method-based solver. Advanced Computational Approaches for Water Treatment: Applications in Food and Chemical Engineering, presents these different numerical techniques and traditional modeling and simulation approaches to elaborate on and explain the various water purification techniques. Features: Serves as a dedicated reference for this emerging topic Discusses state of the art developments in advanced computational techniques for water purification Brings together diverse experience in this field in one reference text Provides a roadmap for future developments in the area This book is primarily intended for chemical engineers, hydrologists, water resource managers, civil engineers, environmental engineers, food scientists and food engineers interested in understanding the numerical approaches for different water purification techniques, such as membrane, sedimentation, filtration, micromagnetofluidic device, and ozone/UV, among others.

Evolving Fuzzy Systems - Methodologies, Advanced Concepts and Applications by Edwin Lughofer Pdf

In today’s real-world applications, there is an increasing demand of integrating new information and knowledge on-demand into model building processes to account for changing system dynamics, new operating conditions, varying human behaviors or environmental influences. Evolving fuzzy systems (EFS) are a powerful tool to cope with this requirement, as they are able to automatically adapt parameters, expand their structure and extend their memory on-the-fly, allowing on-line/real-time modeling. This book comprises several evolving fuzzy systems approaches which have emerged during the last decade and highlights the most important incremental learning methods used. The second part is dedicated to advanced concepts for increasing performance, robustness, process-safety and reliability, for enhancing user-friendliness and enlarging the field of applicability of EFS and for improving the interpretability and understandability of the evolved models. The third part underlines the usefulness and necessity of evolving fuzzy systems in several online real-world application scenarios, provides an outline of potential future applications and raises open problems and new challenges for the next generation evolving systems, including human-inspired evolving machines. The book includes basic principles, concepts, algorithms and theoretic results underlined by illustrations. It is dedicated to researchers from the field of fuzzy systems, machine learning, data mining and system identification as well as engineers and technicians who apply data-driven modeling techniques in real-world systems.

Rethinking the World by Peter Pogany Pdf

The post-Marxian, new historical materialism described in this book breathes new life into our comprehension of the world. A 200-year perspective on modernity tells us that an all-embracing physical phenomenon holds humankind in its grip. History has recorded two distinct global systems thus far: "laissez faire/metal money," which spanned most of the 19th century and lasted until the outbreak of World War I, and "mixed economy/weak multilateralism," which began after 1945 and exists today. The period between the two systems, 1914-1945, was a chaotic transition. This evolutionary pulsation is well known to students of thermodynamics. It corresponds to the behavior of expanding and complexifying material systems. The exhaustion of oil and other natural resources is pushing the world toward a third global system that may be called "two-level economy/strong multilateralism." It will be impossible to get there without a new chaotic transition. No repeated warnings, academic advice, moral advocacy, inspired reforms, or political leadership can provide a shortcut around it. But if it took "1914-1945" to make a relatively minor adjustment in the global order, what will it take to make a major one?

World Economic Outlook, October 2018 by International Monetary Fund. Research Dept. Pdf

Global growth for 2018–19 is projected to remain steady at its 2017 level, but its pace is less vigorous than projected in April and it has become less balanced. Downside risks to global growth have risen in the past six months and the potential for upside surprises has receded. Global growth is projected at 3.7 percent for 2018–19—0.2 percentage point lower for both years than forecast in April. The downward revision reflects surprises that suppressed activity in early 2018 in some major advanced economies, the negative effects of the trade measures implemented or approved between April and mid-September, as well as a weaker outlook for some key emerging market and developing economies arising from country-specific factors, tighter financial conditions, geopolitical tensions, and higher oil import bills. The balance of risks to the global growth forecast has shifted to the downside in a context of elevated policy uncertainty. Several of the downside risks highlighted in the April 2018 World Economic Outlook (WEO)—such as rising trade barriers and a reversal of capital flows to emerging market economies with weaker fundamentals and higher political risk—have become more pronounced or have partially materialized. Meanwhile, the potential for upside surprises has receded, given the tightening of financial conditions in some parts of the world, higher trade costs, slow implementation of reforms recommended in the past, and waning growth momentum.
