And French Indochina its harvests will be far short of the prewar volume. Last year the acreage of these countries averaged about 50 percent of prewar rice area. In 1946-47 their acreage is estimated to be from 55 to 80 percent of aver age, partially because drought prevented the farmers from sowing intended acreages.
