WorldPerfect by Ken Spiro Pdf

In pursuit of an answer to the question of what would constitute a perfect world, author Ken Spiro questioned more than 1,500 people of various backgrounds and religions. His findings revealed six core elements: Respect for human life; peace and harmony; justice and equality; education; family; and social responsibility. He then set off on a journey to find out why these were such common goals across cultural, economic, social and racial lines, and in the process, traced the history of the development of world religions, values and ethics. As a rabbi, he paid particular attention to how Judaism impacted, and was influenced by, the course of these developments. The result is a highly readable and well-documented book about the origins of values and virtues in Western civilization as influenced by the Greeks, Romans, Christians, Muslims and, most significantly, the Jews. The history of religion, presented in Spiro’s highly readable style, is a fascinating and timely subject, especially in today’s volatile religious climate. Spiro divides his book into five engaging parts: Where the Quality of Mercy Was Not Strained: The World of Greece and Rome Against the Grain: The Jewish View A Father to Many Nations: Abraham and the Implications of Monotheism With Sword and Fire: The Rise of Christianity and Islam The New Promised Land: Impact of Judaism on Liberal Democracies Readers of all faiths will find that the elements of a perfect world can only be achieved by a common understanding of our mutual backgrounds and that our diverse religions are all merely branches growing from one single tree.

World Myth or History? by J.G. Cheock Pdf

World myth deciphered and organized into a coherent story of our past. It is almost impossible to read world mythology without noticing common threads and patterns that seem to paint a bigger picture. A story told by our ancient ancestors for future generations to remember and learn. What if the eyewitnesses to past events were taken seriously? What if we listen to their stories with unbiased ears, free of assumptions? What if their stories were backed up by scientific discoveries? What if the myths can explain the mysteries?

The Book of Dao and De by Laozi Pdf

DàoDéJing or Tao Te Ching is a must read for the ethnic Chinese. This millennia-year old ancient scripture is known for its insights, wisdoms, and philosophies of the Chinese civilization. It has a deep-rooted influence over the Chinese people throughout history. But it is a challenging task to read and decipher the cryptic meaning of the text, let alone understand it. With this translation in English, it is hope that it would serve as a useful resource for the English-speaking Chinese worldwide. This translation is also a must read for all others who want to know the psyche of the Chinese people, as well as to feel the pulse of China today in general. The Dào expounded by Laozi is beyond the conventional wisdom and science. In essence, the Dào transcends the ordinary realm. It is simply the true nature of things. It is neither a belief, faith, religion, metaphysics or philosophy. It is just the realization of the enlightened ones throughout the history of mankind. To relate what they knew, they would use their own words, analogies, metaphors, and gestures to illustrate it. For Laozi, he merely called it the Dào. The Dào is everywhere in our day-to-day life, but ordinarily we wouldn’t realize it until we see things as they really are. If a flower is seen as beautiful, then it is no longer the physical flower as it is, but a fanciful flower spiced-up in our mind. In the real world, everything appears only as it is, neither beautiful or ugly, big or small. This is the true nature of things. One cannot know the Dào by the use of the thinking mind. So the Dào cannot be seen from the perspective of belief, philosophy, or science. It can only be known or realized with the mind in complete silence and presence.
