A Manual of Botany for Indian Forest Students (Classic Reprint) by R. S. Hole Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Botany for Indian Forest Students He should for example possess a good knowledge of the charac ters most commonly employed in plant descriptions and thus be able to identify plants from their written descriptions and to use a Flora with advantage. He should also have an eye for those characters of bark, habit, etc., which enable one to recog nise on sight different species in the forest at different times of year. Such characters are dealt with in Part I of the Manual. Those for whom this book is primarily intended have very little time for microscopic work both during their course of training and thereafter. Anatomy therefore is very briefly dealt with in Part I I and only so far as has been considered necessary for a fairly clear idea of the main facts of Physiology and Pathology as given in Parts I I I and V. A Laboratory Manual of High School Botany (Classic Reprint) by Frederic Edward Clements Pdf

Excerpt from A Laboratory Manual of High School Botany The present work is intended solely as a laboratory guide in connection with lectures or a text-book. The matter has, in consequence, been presented in the briefest and most compact form consistent with this purpose. The aim is to put the student to work quickly and to keep him at work intelligently. Ex planation has been added only when it seemed essen tial to the proper handling of the laboratory work. The material and the teacher have been regarded as the two important facts in the work. The laboratory directions, it is hoped, will bring the student into direct contact with the material, and will relieve the teacher of a large amount of drudgery, thus giving him time for real teaching. Excerpt from Glimpses Into the Life of Indian Plants, an Elementary Indian Botany I need. Hardly emphasize that in using this manual as a school-book the plants studied are to be put into the student's hand, and that the types described should, if the climate permits, be planted in a school garden for the continued observation of the various stages of their life. Many of them may, at least in the West Coast of India, be procured in any field, wood, or garden. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. A Manual of Indian Botany by G. C. Bose Pdf

Excerpt from A Manual of Indian Botany The textbooks of Botany commonly used in India are not exactly suited to the requirements of the Indian student. Most of the plants which they cite to illustrate the text are foreign to the plains of India, and serve no purpose other than to cram his memory with facts which he has no means to verify by actual observation. These textbooks naturally give prominence to those Natural Orders which prevail in Europe, while those of Indian importance find a scanty notice. Then again, there are many points of special interest in the Indian Flora which are either left out or treated in inadequate detail. It is hoped that the present Manual, by providing a book based upon Indian Natural Orders, will supply this real and long-felt want. Representative Plants a Manual for the Use of Students, of Botany in Secondary, Schools and Colleges (Classic Reprint) by H. S. Pepoon Pdf

Excerpt from Representative Plants a Manual for the Use of Students, of Botany in Secondary, Schools and Colleges IN the judgment of the author the study of plants ought to begin with the seed plants, as these forms are more or less familiar to the student and, therefore, appeal to him as something not altogether strange. They have a further hold upon him because many of the forms studied have close association with his everyday life. The first part of the manual, therefore, deals with the general subject of the seed plants, treating of them under the great divisional headings of Seeds, Roots, Stems, Leaves, Flowers, and Fruits. There is undoubtedly more material for study than can be covered in a half year, with a labora tory time of four hours a week, but it is believed the teacher should have abundant subject matter from which to select a course that will be applicable to the conditions prevailing in his school. There is much diversity of opinion, and consequently of practice, among those teaching botany as to the initial subject for the fall semester. Some begin with leaves, some with seeds, some with fall flowers and fruits, some with the algae (as pleurococcus). This order of beginning is based upon the assumption that the study of seed plants (part I of this manual) is taken up during the second or spring semester (the most logical procedure in the Opinion of the author). The study of plants, as stated above, ought to begin with these familiar forms, hence an ideal course in botany would start in February and end in January of the following year, the spore plants following the seed plants (tie. From the known to the unknown). About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
