Abide in Christ (Classic Reprint) by Andrew Murray Pdf

Excerpt from Abide in Christ I pray earnestly that our gracious Lord may be pleased to bless this little book, to help those who seek to know Him fully, as He has already blessed it in its original issue in a different (the Dutch) lan guage. I pray still more earnestly that He would, by whatever means, make the multitudes of His dear children who are still living divided lives, to see how He claims them wholly for Himself, and how the whole-hearted surrender to abide in Him alone brings the joy unspeakable and full of glory. 0h, let each of us who has begun to taste the sweetness of this life, yield himself wholly to be a witness to the grace and power of our Lord to keep us united with Himself, and seek by word and walk to win others to follow Him fully. It Is only in such fruit-bearing that our own abiding can be maintained. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Truths That Abide (Classic Reprint) by W. W. Dawley Pdf

Excerpt from Truths That Abide How Known. Who is God? What is he like? Can we know him? Has he given mankind any means of getting acquainted with him? These are the anxious queries of human hearts, yearning to know more of the Creator of a universe. God has made himself knowable through his works, the things that he has put round about men in the world where they live. The first witness that attracted the attention of humankind was the nature about them with its starry skies, its myriad wonders its mysterious forces, its matchless beauties, and its marvelous adaptableness to human needs. That was man's primer on God, his first lessons concerning his Creator. But a fuller revelation of the Lord is treasured up for seeking souls in the choicest and best of all literatures, the Bible, wherein God tells us more of his nature, his ways of working, his purposes and love than we have been able to_dis cover in the volume of the skies, or the sea, or the earth. Then God has shown to the world the very image of himself and the Shining of his glory in the person of Jesus Christ, who was in the form of God, and in whom God speaks to men. The Holy Father and the Living Christ (Classic Reprint) by P. T. Forsyth Pdf

Excerpt from The Holy Father and the Living Christ The ethical standard is becoming supreme withus to-day, not only in condust, but also in theo logy. We may welcome the change. It carries us farther - to a standard truly spiritual. It plants us on God's holiness as His perfec't nature, His eter nal spirit, His ruling self and moving centre. We have been over-engrossed with a mere distributive equity, which has made God the Lord Chief Just ice of the world. Or we have recoiled from that to a love slack and over-sweet. But this lifts us up to a more spiritual and personal standard, to the Fatherly holiness whose satisfaction in a Holy Son is the great work and true soul of Godhead. The divine Father is the holy. And the 'holy Father's first care is holiness. The first charge on a Redeemer is satisfadtion to that holiness. The Holy Father is one who does and must atone. Atonement wears a new glory when read in Christ's own light. We see it owing in grief from that very holiness of the Father to which it returns in praise. As Holy Father He is the eternal Father and maker of sacrifice no less than of man. He offers a sacrifice rent from His own heart. It is made to Him by no third party (for who hath first given unto but by Himself in His Son; and it is made to no foreign power, but to His own holy nature and law. Fatherhood is not bought from holiness by any cross; it is holiness itself that pays. It is love that expiates. Do not say, 'god is love. Why atone?' The New Testament says, 'god has atoned. What love!' The ruling passion of the Saviour's holy God is this passion to atone and to redeem. All this and more is in that Holy Father, which is the last word in the naming of God. The Church of to-day has gained greatly in its sense of the love of God. There are Still greater things wait ing when she has moved on as far again, to that. Holiness whose outward movement is love, which love is but the passion to impart. You can go behind love to holiness, but behind holiness you cannot go. It is the true consuming fire. Any real belief in the Incarnation is a belief in the ultimacy, centrality, and supremacy of holiness for God and for man. We may come to holiness by way of love, but we only come to love by reason of holi ness. We may be all aglow for the coming of the kingdom, but there is a prior petition. It is the kingdom's one condition, Hallowed be Thy Name. That hallowing was done in Christ's death which founded the kingdom. We are in some danger of inverting the order of these prayers to-day. Thy kingdom come is not the first petition. The kingdom comes from the satis faction of holiness. It does not make it. God is Love is not the whole gospel. Love is not evan gelical till it has dealt with holy law. In the midst of the rainbow is a throne. There is a kind of consecration which would live close to the Father, but it does not always take seriously enough the holiness which makes the fatherhood of the cross - awful, inexhaustible, and eternal, as full of judg ment as of salvation. Excerpt from The Life of Our Lord Jesus Christ Nothing need be said by the translator in favor of such a work. Let its title, its author's name, and the high eulogy passed upon it by the Supreme Judge of Christian truth, answer for its worth. But the translation itself requires a few words of vindication and apology. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Student's Life of Christ (Classic Reprint) by Frank Knight Sanders Pdf

Excerpt from The Student's Life of Christ This Life of Jesus the Christ was written from the stand point of the teacher in the Sunday school, with a class desirous of gaining a mastery of the facts from a constructive point of view. It was originally published, chapter by chapter, in various religious weeklies. Notwithstanding the limitations imposed by this method of publication it excited an interest among many readers which seemed to justify its issue in book form for permanent use. The chapters follow closely the Bible Study Union lessons on the Life of Christ, to which they were designed to be supplemental. So representative of the best scholarship is the outline of these lessons that no practical difficulty arose to prevent its being thus followed. The formal requirement of a quarterly review lesson proved advantageous rather than otherwise. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ (Classic Reprint) by William Boothby Selbie Pdf

Excerpt from The Life Teaching of Jesus Christ This little book makes no claim to an exhaustive treat ment of its great subject, nor even to be an original contribution to it. It is intended as an outline or intro duction for those who are beginning the study, and who have no special critical or theological knowledge. The aim throughout has been to summarise the results of modern investigation from the constructive standpoint, and to show that when criticism has had its perfect work enough remains for faith and devotion. The subject is one which raises many problems of which no final solution is possible in the present state of our knowledge. The writer would acknowledge his obligations to many modern writers on the period, to some of whom reference is made in these pages, and among them especially to his old teacher, Dr. Sanday of Oxford, to whom all students of the New Testament owe an incalculable debt. The Christian Doctrine of God (Classic Reprint) by William Newton Clarke Pdf

Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of God The work that was entrusted to me by the General Editors of the International Theological Library was simply the presentation of the conception of God that is characteristic of the Christian religion. I was not sent to search for God, but rather to report as well as I might what the Christian faith testifies concerning him. It has seemed to me that this single commission was enough for me to undertake, and I have attempted nothing more. No report of the literature of the subject will be found upon these pages, nor any quotation of other men's work, nor any controversy. It is the sole endeavour of the book to set forth the Christian doctrine of God for the present day: not the doctrine of the past, or of the future, but the thought of God that we may now entertain if we follow the leading of Jesus Christ the revealer. So far as I have the power, I have sought to be faithful both to the ancient light to the modern, and I have hoped that my presentation might bear reasonably well the tests of the present time. There are many ways of dealing with the vast and glorious theme, and certainly there must be room for a book that simply aims to show forth doctrine as Christian faith may receive it now. I have written in the full conviction that the light which Jesus Christ gives us upon God is the true light, and that God is such a Being as he inspires us to love and trust. The Sufficiency and Defects of the English Communion Office (Classic Reprint) by A. G. Walpole Sayer Pdf

Excerpt from The Sufficiency and Defects of the English Communion Office HE object which led to the enterprise of this subject was essentially practical. Considerable outcry had been raised against the interpolation into the service by the Celebrant of parts of the Unreformed Office. The outcry interpreted this action as throwing doubt or discredit on the Office of our Church. And this interpretation is justified by the open avowals of many who are addicted to this practice. They allege defect or deficiency in our Office. Others, indeed, without such allegation or conscious admission, defend their interpolations as conducing to greater fulness or richness. The object of this work in part'is to attempt to disprove the charges of insufficiency and to show the redundancy of such interpolations. The nature of the interpolations in View has been already defined. There is no reference to any private1 intercessions or devo tions of the Celebrant, but to the direct interpolation of portions of other Offices.
