Abiding in the Indwelling Trinity by George A. Maloney Pdf

Christianity was meant by Jesus to be a living experience of being in the Trinitarian community--of being loved infinitely by the Father, in His Son Jesus Christ, through his Holy Spirit. In the earliest centuries of Christianity, theologians--especially in the East--thought, taught, and believed mystically about the Indwelling Trinity that lived with and transformed Christians into divinized children of God. The East still offers a rich model of participating in God's presence and experiencing the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit. Fr. Maloney approaches this mystery of the Trinity as a dynamic movement of God toward us through His two hands, in the words of St. Irenaeus, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. By drawing insights from Holy Scriptures, the Eastern Fathers, and mystics of all ages, Abiding in the Indwelling Trinity offers an intriguing vision of God as invading Love. +

The Abiding Presence of the Holy Ghost in the Soul by Bede Jarrett Pdf

The Abiding Presence of the Holy Ghost in the Soul Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is a term found in English translations of the Bible, but understood differently among the Abrahamic religions. For the large majority of Christians, the Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost, from Old English gast, "spirit") is the third divine person of the Trinity: the "Triune God" manifested as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; each person itself being God. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity defines God as three consubstantial persons, expressions, or hypostases: the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit; "one God in three persons". The three persons are distinct, yet are one "substance, essence or nature". In this context, a "nature" is what one is, while a "person" is who one is. According to this central mystery of most Christian faiths, there is only one God in three persons: while distinct from one another in their relations of origin (as the Fourth Lateran Council declared, "it is the Father who generates, the Son who is begotten, and the Holy Spirit who proceeds") and in their relations with one another, they are stated to be one in all else, co-equal, co-eternal and consubstantial, and "each is God, whole and entire". Accordingly, the whole work of creation and grace is seen as a single operation common to all three divine persons, in which each shows forth what is proper to him in the Trinity, so that all things are "from the Father", "through the Son" and "in the Holy Spirit".

Matthew 13:10–12 And his disciples came to him and asked, Why to them in parables? And he answered and said to them, “Has been given to you too the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven but to them it has not been given. For whoever has understanding, to him more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance: But whoever does not have understanding, even what he has shall be taken away from him.”

Life in the Trinity by Philip Krill,James McCullough Pdf

Informed by Scripture and the church fathers, and inspired by the ressourcement theology of Henri de Lubac, Hans Urs von Balthasar, and Pope Benedict XVI, this book advances new insight and practical application of the recent retrieval of Trinitarian theology and its vision of human transformation known as deification. Father Philip Krill contributes to a growing retrieval of Trinitarian Christianity and a synthesis of the Western and Eastern theological traditions. A final section on theosis, or deification, rounds out this exploration of God's full intentions for the redemption of humanity.

Abide and Go by Michael J. Gorman Pdf

The Gospel of John would seem to be both the “spiritual Gospel” and a Gospel that promotes Christian mission. Some interpreters, however, have found John to be the product of a sectarian community that promotes a very narrow view of Christian mission and advocates neither love of neighbor nor love of enemy. In this book for both the academy and the church, Michael Gorman argues that John has a profound spirituality that is robustly missional, and that it can be summarized in the paradoxical phrase “Abide and go,” from John 15. Disciples participate in the divine love and life, and therefore in the life-giving mission of God manifested in the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As God’s children, disciples become more and more like this missional God as they become like his Son by the work of the Spirit. This spirituality, argues Gorman, can be called missional theosis.

God by Joseph Bracken Pdf

Drawing on the wisdom and teaching experience of highly respected theologians, the Engaging Theology series builds a firm foundation for graduate study and other ministry formation programs. Each of the volumes—Scripture, Jesus, God, Anthropology, and Church—is concerned with retrieving, carefully evaluating, and constructively interpreting the Christian tradition. Comprehensive in scope and accessibly written, these volumes, used together or independently, will stimulate rich theological reflection and discussion. More important, the series will create and sustain the passion of the next generation of theologians and church leaders. The word God, said Martin Buber decades ago, is the most heavy-laden of all human words. None has become so soiled, so mutilated. Twenty-first-century discourse and action often perpetuate that lack of reverence. In this volume Joseph Bracken shows us a better way. • He begins with Christianity’s roots in Judaism and the inherent struggle to explain the reality of three persons in God who is one. • He allows readers to engage in the lively and fruitful trinitarian debates of the early church and discover how the classical doctrine of the Trinity has shaped the church through the centuries. • He offers a solid theological treatment of the history of the doctrine of God and its relevance for Christians today—for dialogue between Christian men and women, between Christianity and other religions, and between religion and science. Systematic theology at its best, God: Three Who Are One helps us find unexpected unity and consensus in a world full of troubling differences. Along the way, Bracken urges us to pray as well as think and to let rational reflection lead to praise and worship, thereby giving the doctrine of the Trinity its due reverence and care.

He is My Heaven by Jennifer Moorcroft Pdf

Elizabeth of the Trinity (Elizabeth Catez) was a young French woman who became a Discalced Carmelite in the Carmel of Dijon. She was just twenty-one when she died in 1906. But those few years were enough for her to develop and deepen a distinctive approach to God, one that has since inspired countless people in their quest for a deeper relationship with the indwelling God. Although influenced by St. Therese of Lisieux, Elizabeth’s spirituality is distinctive, highly biblical, simple to understand and to practice. Her perennial theme is the Blessed Trinity’s indwelling within the human person—a reality promised in the Gospel, discovered in the silence of prayer and adoration, and then lived out in love for God and neighbor. In He Is My Heaven, Jennifer Moorcroft draws on Elizabeth’s own writings and other sources to give us a short, readable portrait of this fascinating young woman who fell in love with God. Elizabeth’s entrance into the Carmelites was delayed for several years. But this didn’t stop her from deepening her personal relationship with God through prayer. All the while, she had an active social life, cultivated warm friendships, and was active in her parish teaching catechism classes and hosting summer camps for underprivileged children. This example of a deep, contemplative spirit practiced in the midst of a full, busy life as a layperson makes Elizabeth of the Trinity appealing to contemporary God-seekers. She found God not only in the cloister, but in her everyday world with its joys and challenges. As the author notes, our contemporary world is far more cluttered, noisy, and distracting than Elizabeth’s ever was, inside the cloister or out. In our frenetic 21st century lives, her message is more valuable than ever: We, too, can acquire the habit of going into that quiet place within ourselves where God dwells, and live in God’s presence wherever we are.
