After Jena by Daniel Breazeale,Tom Rockmore Pdf

The career of J. G. Fichte, a central figure in German idealism and in the history of philosophy, divides into two distinct phases: the first period, in which he occupied the chair of critical philosophy at the University of Jena (1794-1799); and the following period, after he left Jena for Berlin. Due in part to the inaccessibility of the German texts, Fichte scholarship in the English-speaking world has tended to focus on the Jena period, neglecting the development of this major thinker's mature development. The essays collected in this book begin to correct this imbalance. Concerned in a variety of ways with Fichte's post-Jena philosophy, these essays by distinguished and emerging scholars demonstrate the depth and breadth of Fichte scholarship being done in English. With an introduction that locates the essays in philosophical and historical terms, the book divides into three related categories: Fichte’s development, his view of religion, and other aspects of his "popular" (or not-so-popular) philosophy. From a wide range of perspectives, the essays show how Fichte’s later development reflects the philosophical concerns of his time, the specific debates in which he engaged, and the complex events of his philosophical career.

After Jena by Peter J. Schwartz Pdf

After Jena is the first scholarly work in English to set Goethe's influential and controversial novel Elective Affinities (Die Wahlverwandtschaften, 1809) squarely within the turbulent time in which it was written. Peter J. Schwartz explores the era of rapid modernization following Prussia's defeat at the battle of Jena-Auerstedt (1806)--a battle that permitted Napoleon to extend French hegemony throughout Continental Europe and to dissolve or reform the institutional structures of the German ancien regime. Adducing evidence from many spheres and applying the tools of several disciplines, Schwartz persuasively shows how Elective Affinities reflects post-Jena changes in marriage, property and inheritance law and in the political role of the German nobility. He links questions of character, fate and sacrifice in the novel to modern problems of sovereignty and legitimacy and investigates how key scenes in the novel comment implicitly on Napoleon, Rousseau, the French Revolution, and the politics and aesthetics of the German Romantics. After Jena reveals the novel's ethical core to be a calculus of political legitimacy, and its aesthetics a means of conciliating tensions provoked by modernity's onrush. It will be of special interest to students of literature, history, philosophy, art history and aesthetics. Illustrated. Peter J. Schwartz is Assistant Professor of German at Boston University.

Jena of Atlantis, Legions of Overstar by D.W. Anthony Pdf

Jena of Atlantis, Legions of Overstar is the epic chronicle of the famous slave rebellion of 92,996 b.c. Our short, brown, nearsighted hero from the northeast portion of the continent must find a way to the southwest corner with her companions, to take part in the civil war. This was not a war against nature, as was so common then. It is a war against ideas and customs. Our small group uses ships, vehicles, and oceans of ingenuity to make their way across the dangerous terrain. The battles are carefully detailed, and each chapter is illustrated. A humor book, which does not rely on erotic, evil, or wizardry to deliver a compelling action tale.

Jena of Atlantis, the Finger of Power by D.W. Anthony Pdf

D..W. Anthonys Atlantis Discovery series offers this forth book of explorations and humor in the ruins. We follow the spunky Jena as she travels with a converted assassin and an old palace guard to uncover the strange and mysterious ends of intrigue in a plot to put away the first emperor ever, sixty five thousand years ago. This is a comic tale of ultimate survival at sea, and among the cavernous misty hallways and temples of those in power. She learns what power is, and how it is used. The heroes are flawed, as usual. It is impossible for her to keep her glasses clean, and they are always short on weapons, but not action. For all ages.

Cotu by Jerome Lucido Pdf

God does not speak directly with humans as he once did in the Old and New Testaments. That's why Joshua LaRocca is stunned and disbelieving when he meets COTU, who claims to be God, in seven-degree November weather on a deserted Atlantic City boardwalk in front of the Taj Mahal Casino. That meeting begins a challenge that neither the United States government nor the planet Earth has ever faced before. In the middle are Josh LaRocca, committed Christian novelist, his agnostic agent and friend since childhood, and one thousand militant Palestinians spreading an enhanced strain of Ebola virus in five hundred of the largest air terminals in the United States. If the Palestinians are successful, hundreds of millions of people across the globe will die, and Joshua can't believe he was chosen by God to deliver such a message of doom. Author Jerome Lucido takes readers on a thrilling ride through one man's efforts to do no less than save the world, all in the name of COTU.
