In diesem Zusammenhang werden auch zwei verschiedene Kategorien zur formalen Analyse benannt. Zur Verdeutlichung wird die Verwendung dieser am Ende des Kapitels auch noch einmal anhand eines Praxisbeispiels gezeigt. Das nächste Kapitel befasst sich mit der Fragstellung, wie Schlüsselfiguren in Netzwerken ermittelt werden können und was für Rollen diese spielen. Dabei werden auch die verschiedenen Arten von Schlüsselfiguren benannt. Eine weitere zentrale Rolle in der Analyse sozialer Netzwerke nehmen Gruppen ein. Die Bedeutung von Gruppen und wie man sie ermitteln kann wird im nächsten Kapitel erläutert. Aufbauend auf den Gruppen sollen Interaktionen innerhalb von Netzwerken untersucht werden. Sie bezeichnen einen Ort des Informationsaustauschs und der Kommunikationsmöglichkeit im Internet. In Deutschland sind fast drei Viertel der Internetnutzer in mindestens einem sozialen Netzwerkplattform, wie etwa Facebook oder Xing, angemeldet. Betrachtet man die Zeit, die die Nutzer für die Beschäftigung mit sozialen Netzwerken aufwenden, lässt sich feststellen, dass diese zu einem festen Bestandteil ihres Lebens geworden sind. Besonders Jugendliche sind täglich über mehrere Stunden in sozialen Netzwerken aktiv. Demzufolge können sich die meisten Jugendlichen ein Leben ohne die sozialen Netzwerke nicht mehr vorstellen. Was aber sind die wesentlichen Motive der Nutzer für den Eintritt in die sozialen Netzwerke? Das Ziel dieser Arbeit liegt darin, die Motivation hierfür am Beispiel von Facebook zu analysieren. Die Arbeit soll aufzeigen, welche Motive für eine Mitgliedschaft in den sozialen Netzwerken vorliegen. Die vorliegende Arbeit gliedert sich in 5 Kapitel und wird mit Abbildungen ergänzt. Kapitel 2 gibt eine Erläuterung der sozialen Netzwerke. Dazu werden allgemeine Definitionsansätze der sozialen Netzwerke aufgegriffen und die Entstehungsgeschichte rekapituliert. Anschließend folgt eine Charakterisierung der sozialen Netzwerke; dabei wird dieser Abschnitt untergliedert in „Small-World-Phänomen“, „Stärke der Bindungen“ sowie „Arten und Kategorisierung“ der sozialen Netzwerke. In Kapitel 3 sollen die Merkmale, Daten und Fakten des größten sozialen Netzwerks „Facebook“ vorgestellt werden. Dafür wird zunächst die Entstehungsgeschichte dargestellt; im Anschluss werden die wesentlichen Merkmale und Funktionen von Facebook sowie die Motivation für (potenzielle) Mitglieder vorgestellt. Der Abschnitt „Motivation für (potenzielle) Mitglieder“ wird gegliedert in einen theoretischen Ansatz zur Klärung des Phänomens (Maslowsche Bedürfnispyramide) und die Motive zur Nutzung von Facebook. Auf der Grundlage des theoretischen Teils wird in Kapitel 4 eine empirische Analyse sowie eine Auswertung vorgestellt. Diese empirische Auswertung umfasst die Analyse der Nutzung sozialer Netzwerke, der Motive zur Nutzung sowie die Gründe für die Nicht-Nutzung. Abschließend werden die Ergebnisse der Analyse vorgestellt. Den Abschluss der Arbeit bildet das 5. Kapitel mit einer Zusammenfassung und einem Ausblick.
