The Appraisal of Mineral Rights by MR Terrel L Shields Pdf

The Appraisal of Mineral Rights is a meant as a guide to valuing minerals, particularly oil and gas properties, as real property interests. Most valuation books related to mineral rights focus on setting values for industry specialists. Those emphasize the techniques that oil and gas professionals apply when creating documents for SEC filings, or internal valuation related to deciding which prospects to drill. This work is intended for the appraiser, the real estate agent, and the average mineral owner who needs a valuation that can be used for internal estate management, for valuation related to estate or income taxes, or to evaluate an offer made to purchase the mineral right. Such appraisals should conform to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) rather than be an engineering text. Portfolios of mineral rights, working interests, and over-riding royalty interests are intangible business interests. This book explores the passive interest of actual real property. It is the fee in mineral or the leased fee that is explained. The book starts with a brief history of petroleum valuation and the development of the techniques commonly applied to the appraisal of a mineral interest. It breaks down the legal and appraisal terminology into simple explanations. The lease is dissected and each part of lease terminology is explained. Pooling and divisions of interest are explained. The more technical aspects of valuation are reserved for the last half of the book applying the standard appraisal approaches to value in addition to the application of methodologies unique to minerals. The author ends the book with his commentary on the boom - bust cycle of oil exploration and an exploration of the relationship between earthquakes and fracking.

Oil and Gas Property Evaluation by John D. Wright Pdf

This text covers all of the subjects necessary to evaluate oil and gas properties. Subjects include decline curve evaluation using both Arps' equations and more recent equations, and net cash flow calculations in a royalty/tax system and a production sharing contract. Time value of money and managerial indicators are also discussed. Resource and reserve definitions under PRMS and SEC systems including a compilation of the 1978 and 2008 SEC definitions. Oil and gas pricing is discussed including an example on calculating the revenue from a POP contract. Examples of AFE's for horizontal and vertical wells are provided along with lease operating statements. Methods of handling uncertainty are covered including sensitivity analysis, expected value tables, decision trees, and Monte Carlo simulation. There is a chapter on U.S. Federal Income Tax as applied to both IPRO and integrated oil companies. Land concepts are discussed and a technique for determining working interest and net revenue interest in complex deals is presented. One chapter covers the three styles of report - letter, formal, and oral - with specific suggestions for the report content and example reports.

Reservoir Exploration and Appraisal by Luiz Amado Pdf

Finding a new oil and gas discovery and evaluating its volume is a difficult and challenging task, and yet there is very little published on the topic. Luiz Amado delivers a one-of-a-kind introductory guide titled Reservoir Exploration and Appraisal. Providing logistical instruction and processes for the entire exploration and appraisal process, Amado furnishes the guidance, workflow, and practical recommendations needed based on real-world scenarios. Written by an engineer with over 15 years of experience in the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, South America and West Africa, Reservoir Exploration and Appraisal equips engineers and economists with expert advice on critical subjects such as detailed methods of estimating recovery factors, creating production curves using either simple or complex approaches, understanding main fluid and rock properties that govern volume and productivity, and communicating examples of field case evaluations, including deepwater projects. Details methods of estimating recovery factors and rules of thumb that can be used if there is an absence of data How to create production curves using either simple or complex approaches Understanding main fluid and rock properties that govern volume and productivity, saving time from analyzing countless fluid samples or rock data from cores Describes the process of lease sales, bid rounds and farm-in opportunities Communicates examples of field case evaluations, including deepwater projects, to illustrate the steps covered in the book, showing the reader the full project cycle

Petroleum Geoscience by Jon G. Gluyas,Richard E. Swarbrick Pdf

Petroleum Geoscience is a comprehensive introduction to the application of geology and geophysics to the search for and production of oil and gas. Uniquely, this book is structured to reflect the sequential and cyclical processes of exploration, appraisal, development and production. Chapters dedicated to each of these aspects are further illustrated by case histories drawn from the authors' experiences. Petroleum Geoscience has a global and 'geo-temporal' backdrop, drawing examples and case histories from around the world and from petroleum systems ranging in age from late-Pre-Cambrian to Pliocene. In order to show how geoscience is integrated at all levels within the industry, the authors stress throughout the links between geology and geophysics on the one hand, and drilling, reservoir engineering, petrophysics, petroleum engineering, facilities design, and health, safety and the environment on the other. Petroleum Geoscience is designed as a practical guide, with the basic theory augmented by case studies from a wide spread of geographical locations. Covers all the key aspects of the origin of petroleum, exploration, and production. It takes account of the modern emphasis on the efficient utilisation of reserves, on new methods in exploration (such as 3-D seismics). Book takes 'value-chain' approach to Petroleum Geoscience. First new text on petroleum geology for geology undergraduates to be published in the last ten years. Packed full of real-life case studies from Petroleum industry.
