Aspects of Multivariate Statistical Analysis in Geology by E. Savazzi,R.A. Reyment Pdf

The book presents multivariate statistical methods useful in geological analysis. The essential distinction between multivariate analysis as applied to full-space data (measurements on lengths, heights, breadths etc.) and compositional data is emphasized with particular reference to geochemical data. Each of the methods is accompanied by a practically oriented computer program and backed up by appropriate examples. The computer programs are provided on a compact disk together with trial data-sets and examples of the output. An important feature of this book is the graphical system developed by Dr. Savazzi which is entitled Graph Server. Geological data often deviate from ideal statistical requirements. For this reason, close attention has been paid to the analysis of data that contain atypical observations.

Applied Multivariate Statistics in Geohydrology and Related Sciences by Charles E. Brown Pdf

It has been evident from many years of research work in the geohydrologic sciences that a summary of relevant past work, present work, and needed future work in multivariate statistics with geohydrologic applications is not only desirable, but is necessary. This book is intended to serve a broad scientific audience, but more specifi cally is geared toward scientists doing studies in geohydrology and related geo sciences.lts objective is to address both introductory and advanced concepts and applications of the multivariate procedures in use today. Some of the procedures are classical in scope but others are on the forefront of statistical science and have received limited use in geohydrology or related sciences. The past three decades have seen a significant jump in the application of new research methodologies that focus on analyzing large databases. With more general applications being developed by statisticians in various disciplines, multivariate quantitative procedures are evolving for better scientific applica tion at a rapid rate and now provide for quick and informative analyses of large datasets. The procedures include a family of statistical research methods that are alternatively called "multivariate analysis" or "multivariate statistical methods".

Multivariate Geostatistics by Hans Wackernagel Pdf

Introducing geostatistics from a multivariate perspective is the main aim of this book. The idea took root while teaching geostatistics at the Centre de Geostatis tique (Ecole des Mines de Paris) over the past ten years in the two postgraduate programs DEA and CFSG. A first script of lecture notes in French originated from this activity. A specialized course on Multivariate and Exploratory Geostatistics held in September 1993 in Paris (organized in collaboration with the Department of Statistics of Trinity College Dublin) was the occasion to test some of the mate rial on a pluridisciplinary audience. Another important opportunity arose last year when giving a lecture on Spatial Statistics during the summer term at the Department of Statistics of the University of Washington at Seattle, where part of this manuscript was distributed in an early version. Short accounts were also given during COMETT and TEMPUS courses on geostatistics for environment al studies in Fontainebleau, Freiberg, Rome and Prague, which were sponsored by the European Community. I wish to thank the participants of these various courses for their stimulating questions and comments. Among the organizers of these courses, I particularly want to acknowledge the support received from Georges Matheron, Pierre Chau vet, Margaret Armstrong, John Haslett and Paul Sampson. Michel Grzebyk has made valuable comments on Chapters 26 and 27, which partly summarize some of his contributions to the field.

Analyzing Compositional Data with R by K. Gerald van den Boogaart,Raimon Tolosana-Delgado Pdf

This book presents the statistical analysis of compositional data sets, i.e., data in percentages, proportions, concentrations, etc. The subject is covered from its grounding principles to the practical use in descriptive exploratory analysis, robust linear models and advanced multivariate statistical methods, including zeros and missing values, and paying special attention to data visualization and model display issues. Many illustrated examples and code chunks guide the reader into their modeling and interpretation. And, though the book primarily serves as a reference guide for the R package “compositions,” it is also a general introductory text on Compositional Data Analysis. Awareness of their special characteristics spread in the Geosciences in the early sixties, but a strategy for properly dealing with them was not available until the works of Aitchison in the eighties. Since then, research has expanded our understanding of their theoretical principles and the potentials and limitations of their interpretation. This is the first comprehensive textbook addressing these issues, as well as their practical implications with regard to software. The book is intended for scientists interested in statistically analyzing their compositional data. The subject enjoys relatively broad awareness in the geosciences and environmental sciences, but the spectrum of recent applications also covers areas like medicine, official statistics, and economics. Readers should be familiar with basic univariate and multivariate statistics. Knowledge of R is recommended but not required, as the book is self-contained.

Compositional Data Analysis in the Geosciences by Antonella Buccianti,G. Mateu-Figueras,Vera Pawlowsky-Glahn Pdf

Since Karl Pearson wrote his paper on spurious correlation in 1897, a lot has been said about the statistical analysis of compositional data, mainly by geologists such as Felix Chayes. The solution appeared in the 1980s, when John Aitchison proposed to use Iogratios. Since then, the approach has seen a great expansion, mainly building on the idea of the `natural geometry' of the sample space. Statistics is expected to give sense to our perception of the natural scale of the data, and this is made possible for compositional data using Iogratios. This publication will be a milestone in this process.
