Breast Reconstruction with Autologous Tissue by Hisham Fansa,Christoph Heitmann Pdf

This book describes the various techniques available for autologous breast reconstruction, be it breast conserving therapy (BCT) or reconstruction following total mastectomy with local and distant flaps. Divided into two parts, the first presents the anatomy of the breast and the general requirements with regard to this kind of surgery. In turn, the second addresses reconstructive breast surgery management. The authors present oncoplastic procedures for reconstructing the breast following small defects due to cancer or other conditions (BCT), as well as the use of microvascular free flaps, such as abdominal, thigh or gluteal-based flaps, for a complete reconstruction. Preventive reconstructive surgery and cutting-edge techniques, such as lipofilling or breast reconstruction together with lymph node transplantation, are also included. Written by leading international plastic surgeons and combining step-by-step explanations and detailed illustrations, this book clearly demonstrates that reconstructive procedures can have aesthetic outcomes

Breast Cancer Essentials by Mahdi Rezai,Mehmet Ali Kocdor,Nuh Zafer Canturk Pdf

Breast cancer is a disease requiring multidisciplinary management including surgery, medical and radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, genetic counseling, and psychological support. Each member of the team needs to be updated continuously on breast cancer treatment because of its rapidly changing nature. From the diagnostic procedures to operations and even in metastatic stages of breast cancer, surgeons play an essential part in multidisciplinary teams. After standard surgical options, oncoplastic breast surgery is rapidly becoming one of the most important surgical topics that should be learned by attending surgeons. The idea of writing this book stemmed from a collaboration between the European Academy of Senology (EAoS), European Institute of Oncology (IEO), Euro-Asian Society of Mastology (ESOMA), and SENATURK (Turkish Academy of Senology), which have been working together to promote better training in breast care for professionals. The book offers invaluable support for breast surgeons by covering critical and essential information in senology. It will also greatly benefit the other members of multidisciplinary teams, surgery residents, gynecologists, and plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

Biofabrication by Mohit P. Chhaya,Ferry P.W. Melchels,Paul S. Wiggenhauser,Jan T. Schantz,Dietmar W. Hutmacher Pdf

Breast cancer is a major cause of illness for Australian women. Following tumour resection, breast reconstruction is undertaken for cosmetic and psychological reasons. Reconstruction using silicone-based implants leads to complications such as formation of a rigid fibrous tissue surrounding the implant giving a spherical and unnatural appearance to the breast. Reconstruction using autologous tissue is associated with donor site morbidity, tissue resorption and necrosis. Cell-based tissue engineering is an emerging approach to overcome these problems. Fully vascularised adipose tissue can be engineered in vivo with the help of patient-specific bioabsorbable implants fabricated by additive manufacturing. This chapter focuses on a review of such manufacturing techniques and the strategies being developed to engineer long-term fully vascularised and sustainable adipose tissue.

This book fills the gap for lack of a precise roadmap to approach the fundamentals of implant-based breast surgery to achieve optimal results. Despite the vast number of publications on breast surgery, there is a deficit in easy to process yet detailed source of information which brings all of the concepts together. With observation, surgical experience, and better devices the approach to implant-based breast surgery must evolve from “volumizing” the breast to “shaping” the breast. In a methodical and logical approach, it provides the successful pillars for reproducible outcomes which includes patient assessment, biodimensional planning, surgical techniques and patient care along with pearls and pitfalls. It includes dozens of before and after images alongside case studies to illustrate the management of variety of complex issues.
