Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: High Distinction, Deakin University (Faculty of Business and Law), course: Marketing Management, language: English, abstract: By launching the game console Xbox, Microsoft did not only introduce a new product but stepped into a totally new market where there company did not have any experience yet. Although they had a huge marketing budget, they focused on spending it as effective as possible. Therefore Microsoft’s marketing team had to find out, who their target customers are and with what marketing strategy they could reach their challenging goal to become leader in the game console market. But has their way of segmenting the market and choosing a marketing mix for the Xbox really been successful? The Marketing concept consists of three principles that hold that achieving organizational objectives require determining needs and wants of targets markets and delivering the desired satisfactions more effectively and efficiently than competitors do (Hoffman et al 2003, pp.10-11). Microsoft took advantage of all three principles. Microsoft did put enormous effort in identifying potential customers’ needs. The research was concentrated on so called “hardcore gamers” who spend more than 25 hours playing a week. This group was seen as early adopters as well as opinion-leaders. Of high importance were an appealing design to young customers and performance like speed of the console and high quality of audio and graphics. [...]

Media Management by Bernd W. Wirtz Pdf

“Digitalization significantly changes the media. To cope with this change and to exploit new market opportunities is a major challenge for media corporations. Bernd Wirtz provides a valuable guideline for this new world, combining theory, facts, and practice.” Dr. Hubert Burda, German publisher and Managing Corporate Partner of Hubert Burda Media Holding KG “The media business is subject to substantial change while differences between distinctive media areas are fading away. This is due to technical innovation in areas like transmittance of content, bearer of content and recording devices but also due to new formats, trends and constant change of consumer behavior.” The textbook “Media and Internet Management” stays abreast of changes and covers this topic on a well-founded and comprehensive basis. It makes a valuable contribution to theory and practice in media management and is highly recommendable to media managers.” Christoph Mohn, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Bertelsmann AG “The world of media is full of challenges and dynamic conditions for its field. The dynamic of this market is accelerated even more by new digital technologies and ongoing globalization. This book is an absolute “must have” for everyone who wants to know more about the basics, conditions and requirements of modern media management. The analytical clearness and structure make this publication highly relevant for students, but also for managers.” Urs Rohner, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Credit Suisse Group AG “Media Management is a textbook, but a very welcome newcomer for students and teachers as it fills a market gap for good educational material in this rapidly evolving field. It is concise, simple (but not simplistic), and contains a contemporary overview of concepts and tools for media managers. ” Prof. Dr. Bozena I. Mierzejewska, Editor of The International Journal on Media Management, Fordham University, New York “Summed up, with his second edition Wirtz managed to strengthen the outstanding position of his publication “Media Management”. His textbook shines because of its content, analytical clearness and the high relevance for business practice without losing its academic background. With the second edition this book has established its position in the field of media business as the leading standard reference book in Germany. It is suitable for business students, lectures as well as managers who can gain magnificent information from it.” Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Fritz, Director of the Institute of Marketing, Braunschweig University of Technology, Germany; Honorary Professor at the Institute of Business Administration, University of Vienna, Austria.

Making a Difference - The Societal Marketing Concept Supporting Educational and Cultural Issues by Robert Motzek Pdf

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2002 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1,3 (A), European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) (Economics - International Business Administration), course: Marketing Seminar, 25 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: In June 1995 the off-shore oil rig Brent Spar, owned by oil and petrol giants Dutch-Shell and British Esso, was supposed to be dumped in a depth of 2400 metres near the Scottish westcoast. British institutions had already permitted the dumping, which due to institutional investigations didn't violate the international environmental conventions made in Oslo and Paris to protect the sea. But suddenly the environmental organization Greenpeace launched a European-wide protest campaign to prevent the dumping of Brent Spar, which resulted in massive boycotts of Shell's petrol stations all over the continent. The enormous public support of Greenpeace's campaign forced Dutch-Shell not to dump Brent Spar but to tow it into a Norwegian fjord where it has been stored until today. By now there hasn't been a solution for the disposal of the oil rig. In the case of Brent Spar everyone mentioned responsibility. The responsibility of the Dutch-Shell company to protect the environment, to report about future actions and their consequences and to base decision-making on more than just the opinions of shareholders. According to the public opinion, Dutch-Shell hadn't taken this responsibility, the so-called social responsibility, which turned out to harm the image and sales of the company for years. This project work will explain the meaning and the role of social responsibility in marketing concerning past, present and future developments. Looking at the societal markteting concept supporting educational and cultural issues, we'll see why and in which way firms adopt the societal marketing concept and how this affects their busine

Xbox Revisited by Robbie Bach Pdf

“An entertaining and refreshingly honest . . . exploration of business strategy, personal growth, and civic responsibility” by a former Microsoft executive (Publishers Weekly). From Microsoft’s former Chief Xbox Officer, Robbie Bach, comes a unique book that provides a simple yet robust framework that can be used to tackle almost any problem. In Xbox Revisited: A Game Plan for Corporate and Civic Renewal, Bach takes business, non-profit, and community-engaged readers on the Xbox journey—a triumphant and personal saga from garage-shop beginnings to business success. Using the 3P Framework of Purpose, Principles, and Priorities developed by the Xbox team, Bach describes the process used to revitalize a beleaguered business and then applies those lessons to our most difficult community issues and the challenges of a nation at a crossroads. Bach is turning his strategic and leadership skills to a new opportunity: helping individuals and organizations drive transformational change in business and civic institutions. The book is packed with common sense thinking and a strategic framework that can set change in motion at every level of community life. Xbox Revisited is a wake-up call, a challenge to every citizen to become a “civic engineer” addressing the issues we face in our communities and across our country. “A highly effective, common-sense strategy to address difficult business and community issues . . . Seen through the lens of the creation of the Xbox, the story he tells from personal experience is both engaging and inspirational.” —Jeff Raikes, co-founder, Raikes Foundation, former CEO, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and president, Microsoft Business Division

Microsoft Business Information Systems by Natasha Maingi Pdf

Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Computer Science - Commercial Information Technology, grade: A, University of Kent, course: BSC, language: English, abstract: Information is necessary for many businesses whether small, medium, or large, and the necessity of the information depends on a variety of uses. For example, in the case of proper planning in the business, senior managers will require information to facilitate this planning. However, middle-level management relies on detailed systems of information in order to properly control and monitor various activities in the business. At the same time, various employees who have operational roles also tend to rely on information systems in order to efficiently carry out their duties in the business. Due to all these necessities, many businesses tend to develop information systems that operate at the same time. The Microsoft Company applies Management Information Systems (MIS) in dealing with internal affairs of the company. An Office Automation System (OAS) improves the productivity of employees who need to process data and information (Bill 2006). The Microsoft Company deals with several software systems and the use of OAS becomes handy since it enhances employees’ productivity. Employees have the ability to work from their own homes, as well as other areas at their convenience. Apart from these two systems of information, the other systems of information applicable by the Microsoft Company is the use of Decision Support Systems commonly known as DSS. A decision support system enables the management to make decisions in situations surrounded by uncertainty (Bill 2006). A lot of uncertainty occasionally arises from these big companies such as Microsoft and in such times, the use of DSS becomes handy. This method consists of techniques and tools capable of collecting relevant information and providing analysis of all the relevant information gathered. In the process of analysis provisions, the method also provides alternatives used in case of absence of relevant information. Apart from the provisions of alternatives, this method also involves the use of complex spreadsheets and various databases used to develop several “what-if” models.
