Church, State and Education (Classic Reprint) by Ernest Barker Pdf

Excerpt from Church, State and Education At the end of one of my latest books (principles of Social and Political Theory, published in 1951) I find myself still confronted by the same tension, and arguing in much the same sense as I had argued long ago in 1914. And therefore, on the whole, I see no real change in my views; I see only a different emphasis, varying from time to time, now on this and now on that side of the permanent tension between the authority of the State and the voluntary play of freely formed and freely acting groups or societies. It is impos sible not to experience and confess some change of mind and alteration of view with the change of circumstance and the alter ation of contingencies. But I do not think that this means any real or substantial change of View. The tension remains: the circum stances surrounding it change: the barometer of the reflective mind just registers the consequential change in the character and balance of the tension which must always continue to exist. Religious Education in the Church (Classic Reprint) by Henry Frederick Cope Pdf

Excerpt from Religious Education in the Church The world is not indifferent to religion; it is becoming more conscious of its spiritual needs. There is almost a religious devotion in the principal charge against the church, that it is not on to its job. This seems to mean not alone that it is inefficient, but that it does not perceive its task. That is the heart of the problem, the lack of a sufficiently clear, distinct, and definite function, one that will meet a need otherwise unmet, one that Will convince the minds, . Enlist the wills, and win the hearts of all men and women of spiritual perceptions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Church School (Classic Reprint) by Walter Scott Athearn Pdf

Excerpt from The Church School This volume is the outgrowth of a commission report on "The Correlation of the Educational Agencies of a Local Church" presented at the Cleveland meeting of the Religious Education Association. This report awakened widespread interest. As chairman of this commission the writer has received many requests for details of organization and nature and content of curriculum suited to the various periods of unfolding childhood. The introduction of courses in religious education into colleges, seminaries and city institutes has created a demand for textbooks which will open up the whole field and direct the students to the literature and material now accessible. This volume is not an attempt to assemble the popular practices in the church schools of our times. The author believes that nothing is practical which is not founded on the best educational theory. The great need of the church schools of our day is leadership capable of evaluating practice in terms of well-established theory. Progress in religious education must not be a matter of accident - the chance survival of that which works. Church-School Administration (Classic Reprint) by Edmund Morris Fergusson Pdf

Excerpt from Church-School Administration Most of the chapters open historically. I have sought to show how our present modes of work have grown out of those current in the last generation, and in the times before. I hope thus to enable such of my fellow-workers as still follow the old ways to see the path over into the new and the reasons why the new ways are better. Perhaps, also, some of those whose approach to religious education has been mod em and academic may be strengthened in sympathy and respect for the conservative wing of our common host, through these glimpses at the progress of each specialty to its present stage of educational develop ment. If the church-school worker of to-day matches his predecessors in faithfulness and eagerness for the best, he will do well. Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church (Classic Reprint) by William Allen Lambert Pdf

Excerpt from Religious Education and for the Healing of the Church It seems strange that Luther in neither of his treatises on the establishment of public schools speaks specifically of the religious education of the child. His catechisms were not written for the school, but for 'pastors and teachers, ' as the preface to the Small Catechism says, and for 'house-fathers, ' as the headings of the various parts say. Even Gerhard looks to the ministers and not to the schools for the religious training of the children. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The School in the Modern Church (Classic Reprint) by Henry Frederick Cope Pdf

Excerpt from The School in the Modern Church "Sunday School" is the title to which four generations have been accustomed; no one who knows the field of religious education can doubt that the next generation will use a new title. The change to the name "Church School" is significant, however, only because it indicates developments in the scope and functions of the school. These developments seem to call for a practical exposition which will aid any school to enter into the fulness of its opportunities. These chapters on the ideals and the practical problem? of the new type of school are not written so much for the schools consciously marching in the vanguard, and those schools which know they are "new" and up-to-date as for those which, while accepting and following the newer methods, still must struggle with inadequacy of equipment, meagre support, and ignorance and indifference, resulting in a lack of team-play on the part of their churches. I have tried to keep in mind schools which I have known in suburban areas, in the country-side and in villages, the kind of schools that would include probably between eighty and ninety per cent of all the Sunday schools in North America. Sketches from Church History for Mennonite Schools (Classic Reprint) by Cornelius H. Wedel Pdf

Excerpt from Sketches From Church History for Mennonite Schools In making the translation no effort was made to depart from the original text; with the exception that only in a few places slight changes were thought necessary. The history of our missions, however, was brought up to the present time. Likewise, brief accounts of missionary activities of other branches of our denomination have been added. It is hoped that because of this fact this little book may find a Wider use than just within the confines of our own schools. May the book help to stimulate the interest in religious education, the need of which has become so imperative in these disturbed days. Christian Education: Church and State Schools, Both Christian; Baccalaureate Sermon, Delivered June 3, 1900 (Classic Reprint) by George E. Maclean Pdf

Excerpt from Christian Education: Church and State Schools, Both Christian; Baccalaureate Sermon, Delivered June 3, 1900 In the personality of the Peasant of Galilee we reach the culmination of the evolution of the inspired ones of human ity. As related to the ages before Him, He was, in His words, One who came to fulfil. As related to the ages to follow Him, He was the type of a new humanity that with accelerated evolution, should develop from the old, under the anointing or inspiration not only of the Father's spirit, but also of the example and spirit of the Christ. In scriptural language, When the fulness of time was come, God sent forth His Son made of a woman that we might receive the adoption of sons, and because we are sons, God has sent forth the spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
