The Right Leader by Nat Stoddard,Claire Wyckoff Pdf

A trailblazing approach to choosing executives who both match the needs and fit the cultures of the organizations they will lead Leadership failures damage or even destroy companies every day. To reduce the costs of leadership failure, the author has developed a revolutionary process for selecting executives based on his years of consulting for some of America's largest corporations. The Right Leader details this new approach and how it eliminates the leadership failures that plague so many companies around the world today. When executives don't address the right needs, or can't lead the organization because of a poor fit with the corporation's cultures, the company loses competitive advantage, talented people, and momentum. The Right Leader introduces the revolutionary Match-Fit Model and explains how it reduces the risks and costs of executive failure by changing the factors that are considered and by taking into account the cultural dynamics at play in any organization. Nat Stoddard (New York, NY) is Chairman of Crenshaw Associates, a New York-based consulting firm specializing in career and transition management for senior executives. Claire Wyckoff (New York, NY) is an accomplished writer and editor, who has held executive positions in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors.

Corporate Leadership Selection by Dr. Reginald J. Gardner Jr. DM Pdf

This book is an unbiased account of events in numerous business scenarios that I have either experienced, observed, or researched. The objective is not to paint a negative picture of corporate selection processes or behavior, but to reflect upon the leadership selection decisions and the consequences of those decisions - both positive and negative. This book also summarizes the steps of conducting a qualitative research study, and provides a glimpse of the impact to American business and American society as a result of corporate leadership selection. The intent of the excerpts in this book on leadership selection is to touch the conscious of those who willing contributed to unethical/immoral corporate leadership behavior; strike a nerve in those who have the moral courage to blow the whistle on their observed corporate wrongdoing; and open the hearts of those who will encounter questionable leadership activity in the future to respond and curtail such events. This book is geared toward existing corporate leaders; newly selected corporate leaders; those who aspire to become corporate leaders; and students who study and research corporate leader selection. The U.S. remains the greatest country in the world. It is fueled by successful American corporations. However, like any other entity or process, there is always room for improvement.

Executive Selection by Valerie I. Sessa,Robert Kaiser,Jodi K. Taylor,Richard J. Campbell Pdf

This book presents a study that examined the apparent failures of many top-level executive selections. For the study, information was gathered from 494 top executives. The research's purpose was to determine how executives are defined as successful or unsuccessful, how executive selection takes place in modern organizations, and what determines whether companies look inside or outside for a successor. These questions were addressed through an organizing framework that outlined the domains related to executive selections. These domains were developed by combining what is known about selection at lower levels in the organization with the differences and special needs of selection within the top ranks of the organization. The results indicate that performance measures--how one does the job--do not differentiate between successful and unsuccessful executives. In addition, selection processes are related to the eventual success or failure of executives according to the explicitness of organizational needs, position requirements, and who is selected to be in the candidate pool. The study also found that internal selection processes differ from external selection processes in terms of organizational needs, position requirement, and other factors. Selection processes vary in length of process and number of candidates considered. Two appendices present the study protocols and limitations. (Contains 40 figures and 40 references.) (RJM)

The Police Chief Executive Report by International Association of Chiefs of Police. Police Chief Executive Committee Pdf

This report proposes orderly methods of selecting a qualified police chief executive and of retaining him after selection. It also suggests means by which communities can increase the effectiveness of their police chief executives by ensuring the authority, resources, and tenure necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the positions properly. In addition, this report sets out procedures, grounded on American constitutional notions of fairness and due process, for removing an unqualified police chief executive from office. The eighteen standards presented, along with their related commentaries, were developed and reviewed by the police chief executive committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), which, with funding support from the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA), conducted a yearlong study into the role and position of police chief executives. The appendix contains a discussion of the research methodology, copies of the survey questionnaires, and statistical summaries of questionnaire responses. An index is provided.

Corporate Mobility and Paths to the Top by J Benjamin Forbes,James Piercy Pdf

This book is the first to present research-based data, rather than opinion, on the subject of executive mobility. J. Benjamin Forbes and James Piercy have brought together ten years of research on various topics, including backgrounds of chief executive officers, early intra-organizational mobility, and backgrounds and placements of female executives, then integrated the results to form an accurate picture of management mobility in today's corporate world. In gathering data on the entire careers of CEOs, Forbes and Piercy looked at a variety of industries, including manufacturing, utility, transportation, banking, insurance, and retailing, as well as the socio-economic backgrounds of these industries' executives. Throughout the work, the authors deal with specific issues, such as early promotions versus the late bloomer, changing firms or industries to move up more quickly, and the greatest opportunities for women executives. Following an introductory chapter that provides an overview of the current environment and conventional wisdom, Forbes and Piercy offer detailed discussions of starting a career and the importance of early movement; the early competition; and mid-career issues including alternate routes to the top. Subsequent chapters deal with profiles of and projections for female executives; origins and formative years of the chief executive, including education, social status and personal characteristics; and industry differences and changes over time. The work concludes with a discussion of the careers of CEOs in different industries, and a practical look at reforming development and selection and strategically planning an individual career. This work will be a valuable tool for human resource professionals as well as for professionals and students in the management field. Public, academic, and business libraries will also find it to be an important addition to their collections.
