DIABETES, WHY Die–a-bit-ease? by Pratishtha saraswat (Acharya Pratishtha) Pdf

My Words . . .…… Why this book? …Guruji always says “Yog Vidya pustakon se grahen nahi ki ja sakti, Yog ka prasad pane ke liye guru ke sannidhya ki avashyakta hai… (Knowledge of yoga can never be gained through books. You need a practical training under the expert guidance of a guru.)” And ‘Yog Sutra’, Key to Yog, also says ‘Gurupdisht margein yogmeiv samabhayaseit’ i.e practice of yog should be done under the expert guidance of a Guru. And that’s the only reason guruji could never find time to involve himself in writing heavy volumes but to share and teach the art of living to his disciples directly. But as times have changed a lot… I think the great knowledge and the deep experience of guruji about the spiritual as well as scientific aspect of yog that he has gained not through any formal training but through his previous birth should be available as well as beneficial for masses at large… with this intention only, all what I recollect out of all what I’ve been hearing and learning from guruji, am trying to jot it down and serve it to all those who wish to get benefited through the knowledge of this great soul- Guruji. This book is the saying of Guruji through my pen. If in any case there is any misconception or mistake regarding language or presentation of facts in this book, I highly apologize for that as I’m too young to write on yoga, the deepest of subjects… in fact perhaps the youngest one. … Guruji always says two things while concluding his yoga sessions… … 1st- “There are numerous people on this earth who are handicapped… some body lacks a hand… some body leg… some body lacks an eye… somebody is deaf by birth…and many who have this human body but are incompetent with their minds… are mentally retarded. We are the truly blessed ones with this healthy human body and mind which is a Divine gift from Ishvara to all of us… but… most of us forget to make proper and complete use of this Divine gift. May Ishvara give us the power to take care and make proper use of this Divine gift through yog sadhna, the continuous yog practice as “Shareermadyam khalu dharm sadhnam.” i.e It’s very important to keep this body fit but not because it is ‘Bhogaya-tan’ but because it is ‘Mokshaya-tan’ as this human birth is a rare opportunity that can lead us even beyond the cycle of death and birth. So he says, “Yogi bano : Upyogi bano” (Be a Yogi but Useful) 2nd- “If unknowingly there is any error or omission on my part during this training session… that should be considered as my personal mistake, my personal fault and not the mistake of this great and Divine science- Yog.” Hope, all those who suffer from diabetes get deeply benefited with the systems introduced and those who don’t suffer, do take it as a wonderful preventive measure to stay fit, free and perfectly out of killing grip of this devil of diabetes through this book. Never ever think ‘I can’t’, for this ‘I can’t’ is the biggest enemy, here I remember a few lines guru ji wrote for me when I was a student and used to stay at hostel of national Institute of Kathak Dance, New Delhi: “Aisa kya hai is jag maahi, jo sab tum pa sakte naahi, lekin kapol kalpana chhodo, mehnat par vishwas karo…” ‘There is nothing in this world which can’t be achieved and the only way to achieve is not to dream but to stand strong and toil hard for it.’ And these were the lines which transformed me into the youngest servant of this science of Yoga. It is perhaps because I’ve always seen myself as a ‘Student’ always keen to learn the teachings of life. I truly believe we all can achieve whatever we aspire for through a ‘CHALLENGE’. Yes! A challenge can make you achieve whatever you desire but always remember that you’ve to challenge your own self and not the others. Just take some time for your self, meet yourself, know yourself, talk to yourself and finally start loving your own self because until and unless you love yourself you can’t love anyone else. This life is a Divine gift, utilize each and every moment of it that will definitely help you raise your inner self and achieve ‘Aanand’, the sheer bliss as happiness, Joy, Aanand is our birth right and no one can snatch it from us. Today onwards when you have started reading this book and have taken the first step in the yogic life style never look back, just go ahead and enjoy the spiritual path of this beautiful journey as it really doesn’t matter where you reach, but the only thing that matters is that your journey is spontaneous and in the right direction. While moving on this path you’ll experience astonishing changes in the functions of the mind, body and soul as Yog is not at all a mere set of physical exercises, it’s a lifestyle, it’s a journey to lead you to the inner world where you’ll find a huge stock of energy, enthusiasm, harmony, peace, bliss (aanand) and above all will get an opportunity to meet the most beautiful & divine soul of the universe with the infinite potential to do anything in this world – ‘Your Own self’. Each and every individual has a common goal… everyone wants to be happy and they definitely know the destination but are unaware of the path… You know it… only and only the path of yoga can take the practitioner to the destination of bliss as ‘Dukhatrya nivritti swarupanand vaptishch’ as there are three kind of sorrows ‘Daivik’ , ‘Daihik’ & ‘Bhautik’ and the only remedy to these sorrows is YOG SADHNA. I would like to share something with all my readers before I conclude … … Yog is not just a way to get rid of diseases. Basically we take birth at body level… we live at body level and finally we die at the level of body and may be that’s the reason that most of the modern yoga teachers and preachers have also confined Yog science just to the level of body fitness. Undoubtedly, diseases are cured through yoga…. for sure BUT… we’ll try to move a bit higher from body level because it is yog sadhna that touches all the levels of human life… Physical, Mental, Emotional, Intellectual, Social as well as Spiritual. Few days back being a dancer as well as a yog sadhika I got a beautiful thought… ‘An average man lives only one character in one life…. I take birth as Pratishtha, I live as Pratishtha and finally I die as Pratishtha.’ But when I’m an artist – a dancer I live many CHARACTERS in one life… sometimes I am Radha sometimes Krishna sometimes Rama, Sita and of course sometimes Ravana. But when I am a Yogi – yog sadhak, I live many lives in one life sometimes I’m Koorma (tortoise), sometimes Sarpa (snake), sometimes Mandook (frog) finally after living so many lives and gaining the best of them we strive to get out of the bondage of life and death. And that’s the final destination of this human life…. MOKSHA i.e. going beyond the cycle of death and life and staying in absolute. Do enjoy a perfect health through dedicated and regular practice of yoga and finally don’t forget to thank this devil of diabetes and other such diseases as they have been blessing in disguise finally leading you to the door step of yog, the true science of life. Don’t just read this book, try to implement it as well. Only that would be the true success my effort. Thanks - Pratishtha

Global Report on Diabetes by Gojka Roglic Pdf

"On the occasion of World Health Day 2016, WHO issues a call for action on diabetes, drawing attention to the need to step up prevention and treatment of the disease. The first WHO Global report on diabetes demonstrates that the number of adults living with diabetes has almost quadrupled since 1980 to 422 million adults. This dramatic rise is largely due to the rise in type 2 diabetes and factors driving it include overweight and obesity. In 2012 alone diabetes caused 1.5 million deaths. Its complications can lead to heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and lower limb amputation. The new report calls upon governments to ensure that people are able to make healthy choices and that health systems are able to diagnose, treat and care for people with diabetes. It encourages us all as individuals to eat healthily, be physically active, and avoid excessive weight gain."--Publisher's description.

Exercise and Diabetes by Sheri R. Colberg Pdf

Physical movement has a positive effect on physical fitness, morbidity, and mortality in individuals with diabetes. Although exercise has long been considered a cornerstone of diabetes management, many health care providers fail to prescribe it. In addition, many fitness professionals may be unaware of the complexities of including physical activity in the management of diabetes. Giving patients or clients a full exercise prescription that take other chronic conditions commonly accompanying diabetes into account may be too time-consuming for or beyond the expertise of many health care and fitness professionals. The purpose of this book is to cover the recommended types and quantities of physical activities that can and should be undertaken by all individuals with any type of diabetes, along with precautions related to medication use and diabetes-related health complications. Medications used to control diabetes should augment lifestyle improvements like increased daily physical activity rather than replace them. Up until now, professional books with exercise information and prescriptions were not timely or interactive enough to easily provide busy professionals with access to the latest recommendations for each unique patient. However, simply instructing patients to “exercise more” is frequently not motivating or informative enough to get them regularly or safely active. This book is changing all that with its up-to-date and easy-to-prescribe exercise and physical activity recommendations and relevant case studies. Read and learn to quickly prescribe effective and appropriate exercise to everyone.

Depression and Diabetes by Wayne Katon,Mario Maj,Norman Sartorius Pdf

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the multiple interrelationships between depression and various physical diseases. The WPA is providing an update of currently available evidence on these interrelationships by the publication of three books, dealing with the comorbidity of depression with diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Depression is a frequent and serious comorbid condition in diabetes, which adversely affects quality of life and the long-term prognosis. Co-occurrent depression presents peculiar clinical challenges, making both conditions harder to manage. Depression and Diabetes is the first book devoted to the interaction between these common disorders. World leaders in diabetes, depression and public health synthesize current evidence, including some previously unpublished data, in a concise, easy-to-read format. They provide an overview of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, medical costs, management, and public health and cultural implications of the comorbidity between depression and diabetes. The book describes how the negative consequences of depression in diabetes could be avoided, given that effective depression treatments for diabetic patients are available. Its practical approach makes the book ideal for all those involved in the management of these patients: psychiatrists, psychologists, diabetologists, general practitioners, diabetes specialist nurses and mental health nurses.

Care Without Coverage by Institute of Medicine,Board on Health Care Services,Committee on the Consequences of Uninsurance Pdf

Many Americans believe that people who lack health insurance somehow get the care they really need. Care Without Coverage examines the real consequences for adults who lack health insurance. The study presents findings in the areas of prevention and screening, cancer, chronic illness, hospital-based care, and general health status. The committee looked at the consequences of being uninsured for people suffering from cancer, diabetes, HIV infection and AIDS, heart and kidney disease, mental illness, traumatic injuries, and heart attacks. It focused on the roughly 30 million-one in seven-working-age Americans without health insurance. This group does not include the population over 65 that is covered by Medicare or the nearly 10 million children who are uninsured in this country. The main findings of the report are that working-age Americans without health insurance are more likely to receive too little medical care and receive it too late; be sicker and die sooner; and receive poorer care when they are in the hospital, even for acute situations like a motor vehicle crash.

Mastering Diabetes by Cyrus Khambatta, PhD,Robby Barbaro, MPH Pdf

The instant New York Times bestseller. A groundbreaking method to master all types of diabetes by reversing insulin resistance. Current medical wisdom advises that anyone suffering from diabetes or prediabetes should eat a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet. But in this revolutionary book, Cyrus Khambatta, PhD, and Robby Barbaro, MPH, rely on a century of research to show that advice is misguided. While it may improve short-term blood glucose control, such a diet also increases the long-term risk for chronic diseases like cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease, and fatty liver disease. The revolutionary solution is to eat a low-fat plant-based whole-food diet, the most powerful way to reverse insulin resistance in all types of diabetes: type 1, type 1.5, type 2, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes. As the creators of the extraordinary and effective Mastering Diabetes Method, Khambatta and Barbaro lay out a step-by-step plan proven to reverse insulin resistance-the root cause of blood glucose variability- while improving overall health and maximizing life expectancy. Armed with more than 800 scientific references and drawing on more than 36 years of personal experience living with type 1 diabetes themselves, the authors show how to eat large quantities of carbohydrate-rich whole foods like bananas, potatoes, and quinoa while decreasing blood glucose, oral medication, and insulin requirements. They also provide life-changing advice on intermittent fasting and daily exercise and offer tips on eating in tricky situations, such as restaurant meals and family dinners. Perhaps best of all: On the Mastering Diabetes Method, you will never go hungry. Magnesium in the Central Nervous System by Robert Vink,Mihai Nechifor Pdf

The brain is the most complex organ in our body. Indeed, it is perhaps the most complex structure we have ever encountered in nature. Both structurally and functionally, there are many peculiarities that differentiate the brain from all other organs. The brain is our connection to the world around us and by governing nervous system and higher function, any disturbance induces severe neurological and psychiatric disorders that can have a devastating effect on quality of life. Our understanding of the physiology and biochemistry of the brain has improved dramatically in the last two decades. In particular, the critical role of cations, including magnesium, has become evident, even if incompletely understood at a mechanistic level. The exact role and regulation of magnesium, in particular, remains elusive, largely because intracellular levels are so difficult to routinely quantify. Nonetheless, the importance of magnesium to normal central nervous system activity is self-evident given the complicated homeostatic mechanisms that maintain the concentration of this cation within strict limits essential for normal physiology and metabolism. There is also considerable accumulating evidence to suggest alterations to some brain functions in both normal and pathological conditions may be linked to alterations in local magnesium concentration. This book, containing chapters written by some of the foremost experts in the field of magnesium research, brings together the latest in experimental and clinical magnesium research as it relates to the central nervous system. It offers a complete and updated view of magnesiums involvement in central nervous system function and in so doing, brings together two main pillars of contemporary neuroscience research, namely providing an explanation for the molecular mechanisms involved in brain function, and emphasizing the connections between the molecular changes and behavior. It is the untiring efforts of those magnesium researchers who have dedicated their lives to unraveling the mysteries of magnesiums role in biological systems that has inspired the collation of this volume of work.

The Discovery of Insulin by Michael Bliss Pdf

The discovery of insulin at the University of Toronto in 1921-22 was one of the most dramatic events in the history of the treatment of disease. Insulin was a wonder-drug with ability to bring patients back from the very brink of death, and it was no surprise that in 1923 the Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to its discoverers, the Canadian research team of Banting, Best, Collip, and Macleod. In this engaging and award-winning account, historian Michael Bliss recounts the fascinating story behind the discovery of insulin – a story as much filled with fiery confrontation and intense competition as medical dedication and scientific genius. Originally published in 1982 and updated in 1996, The Discovery of Insulin has won the City of Toronto Book Award, the Jason Hannah Medal of the Royal Society of Canada, and the William H. Welch Medal of the American Association for the History of Medicine.
