Diamond Quality Leadership by Mark Hinderliter Pdf

"Denny, what's the biggest learning for you in this process of taking the Diamond Leadership Model throughout your organization?" Bob asked. It was a great question. I thought for a few seconds. "The biggest learning for me so far is that leadership development has to be elevated to the level of strategic initiatives-the same as marketing, product development, capital investments and other high level objectives. As a senior manager, the thing that I can impact the most in my business is developing leaders. So far, the results are proving that to be true. And I find that I am having fun again."

World War I Leadership Characteristics That Could Make Future Military Leaders Successful by Major Robert J. Paquin Pdf

This monograph analyzes the leadership characteristics that suggest a rapid acceptance of changing conditions in warfare among senior leaders and which leadership characteristics tend to suggest a more conservative approach. This conservative approach fails to recognize and adapt to the new emerging conditions. This research studied two World War I British leaders, General Sir Ivor Maxse and General Sir Hubert Gough, and compared and contrasted their leadership characteristics. From this, the research identified the most significant leadership characteristics that allowed these leaders to successfully adapt quickly in a time of transition. The criteria for analysis was based on four leadership characteristics as defined in FM 22-100, Army Leadership: Revised Final Draft, dated June 1998. The four leadership characteristics used as evaluation criteria were personal courage, initiative, tactical skill, and learning.A comparison of the role of the two World War I leaders yields the conclusion that certain leadership characteristics allowed them to adapt more easily in an evolving environment and facilitated successful battlefield leadership. These characteristics were moral courage, initiative, tactical skill and the application of knowledge through effective, continual learning. The monograph provides valuable insights into what leadership characteristics will allow current and future leaders to be successful, and unsuccessful, during a military transitional period. Our leaders must be creative, intuitive, dynamic, and able to make contemplated decisions, and have the courage and determination to act on them. The requirement for developing those leaders is an important one for the United States and a demanding one for the U.S. Army. An understanding of these leadership characteristics and the reasons that they facilitate successful battlefield leadership can provide an intellectual foundation beneficial to the Army as it prepares for future warfare.

Leadership by Sy Ogulnick Pdf

Advice for leaders in every arena of life on facilitating problem solving, creativity, innovation, and a sense of mutual ownership. The answer to resolving a problem in any relationship is likely found where the power is located. Who are the true leaders, what are their expectations, and how well do they communicate with those they lead? And, how well and candidly do those significant to the leader communicate back? This is where trust, safety and respect play a huge role in how the relationship plays out and either grows, mutually, or is destructive, mutually. Most leaders tend to communicate badly, have unspoken or inflexible expectations towards those they lead and blame others for their own failings. Leadership: Power and Consequences confronts this problem of leadership directly and clearly by using Sy Ogulnick’s personally experienced stories. He clearly describes the path leaders must take if they are to personally grow, to understand themselves better, and to contribute to the growth of those they lead. When authentic communication takes place between those in power and those immediately at the effect of this power, trust, safety, and respect are felt by everyone involved. This must be found in the environment or genuine dialogue between them is impossible and will not, even at the point of a gun, take place. And it is the leaders who are primarily responsible for the creation of the environment. Words do not make it so, but action (behavior of the leaders) does.

Distributed School Leadership by Alma Harris Pdf

Tomorrow’s schools will need new forms of leadership. The old hierarchical models of leadership simply do not fit any longer. We need to develop new leaders at all levels of the system if we are serious about sustaining improvement and change. But, how do we go about this? The book focuses on the why, how and what of distributed leadership by offering a practical insight into what it looks like in schools. It argues that our new system leaders are already in schools and that the main challenge is to develop them and maximise their collective capacity to make a difference. Drawing on the ‘Developing Leaders Programme’, which aimed to develop young leaders in schools, it provides practical examples and case-study evidence of distributed leadership in action. The main aims of the book are to: provide a clear account of more widely distributed leadership offer evidence about its positive impact on organisational and individual learning give case-study exemplars and practical illustrations of how it works in practice. The book also considers the leadership of networks and the new forms of partnership schools are engaged in. It looks at how lateral capacity is built and the part distributed leadership plays in generating leadership capacity between schools. It will be of interest to headteachers, aspiring school leaders, teachers and educational professionals.

Garcia offers proven leadership success based on a challenging military career and while serving as a CFO for a national nonprofit and most recently as the "Katrina CFO" for FEMA in New Orleans for three years. Garcia's Leader's Pyramid tool has allowed him to do his part to meet extraordinary mission requirements in extraordinary places. The Leader's Pyramid is built and grounded on proven principles and is valuable to all types of leaders -- experienced manager or newly promoted supervisor. Joseph blends his "walked in a leader's shoes" perspective with extensive research and academic principles. He taught a Leadership course at the Air Force Academy and received his Executive Masters in Leadership from Georgetown University. His desired outcome for his readers is a balanced and consistent approach to leadership. Using the Leader's Pyramid construct has allowed Joseph to be consistent in how he reaches decisions, especially tough ones involving people concerns, because he follows the same decision-making process. At the same time, he has gained the proper balance in his leadership focus and actions since his Leader's Pyramid allocates a 60/30/10 percentage mix for the Mission, People, and Ego factors respectively. Proof of Garcia's "recipe for success" includes many organizational and individual awards, including the "Male Boss of the Year" through the Federal Women's Awards Program. Joseph builds the Leader's Pyramid with his readers one block at a time, using his wealth of personal experiences along with illustrating scenarios that helps explain and reinforce the Mission, People, and Ego components. Garcia even uses the Leader's Pyramid to advocate how to become a better spouse, parent, and well-rounded individual. Finally, his "pyramid maintenance tips" promote continuous professional and personal development. In short, Garcia takes his readers on an enjoyable learning journey throughout The Leader's Pyramid.
