Digital Asset Valuation and Cyber Risk Measurement by Keyun Ruan Pdf

Digital Asset Valuation and Cyber Risk Measurement: Principles of Cybernomics is a book about the future of risk and the future of value. It examines the indispensable role of economic modeling in the future of digitization, thus providing industry professionals with the tools they need to optimize the management of financial risks associated with this megatrend. The book addresses three problem areas: the valuation of digital assets, measurement of risk exposures of digital valuables, and economic modeling for the management of such risks. Employing a pair of novel cyber risk measurement units, bitmort and hekla, the book covers areas of value, risk, control, and return, each of which are viewed from the perspective of entity (e.g., individual, organization, business), portfolio (e.g., industry sector, nation-state), and global ramifications. Establishing adequate, holistic, and statistically robust data points on the entity, portfolio, and global levels for the development of a cybernomics databank is essential for the resilience of our shared digital future. This book also argues existing economic value theories no longer apply to the digital era due to the unique characteristics of digital assets. It introduces six laws of digital theory of value, with the aim to adapt economic value theories to the digital and machine era. Comprehensive literature review on existing digital asset valuation models, cyber risk management methods, security control frameworks, and economics of information security Discusses the implication of classical economic theories under the context of digitization, as well as the impact of rapid digitization on the future of value Analyzes the fundamental attributes and measurable characteristics of digital assets as economic goods Discusses the scope and measurement of digital economy Highlights cutting-edge risk measurement practices regarding cybersecurity risk management Introduces novel concepts, models, and theories, including opportunity value, Digital Valuation Model, six laws of digital theory of value, Cyber Risk Quadrant, and most importantly, cyber risk measures hekla and bitmort Introduces cybernomics, that is, the integration of cyber risk management and economics to study the requirements of a databank in order to improve risk analytics solutions for (1) the valuation of digital assets, (2) the measurement of risk exposure of digital assets, and (3) the capital optimization for managing residual cyber risK Provides a case study on cyber insurance

Valuation of Crypto Assets. A Conceptual Framework and Case Application to the IOTA Token by Abdulkarim Ajouaou Saidi Pdf

Master's Thesis from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Controlling, grade: 2.0, Berlin School of Economics and Law, language: English, abstract: This thesis aims at elaborating fundamental valuation techniques for crypto assets. Since research in this field is still at the very beginning this work intends to provide investors, financial analysts, token issuers, researchers or crypto enthusiasts a framework of how to determine the fundamental value of this emerging asset class. To do so, three main research questions are formulated: 1. How can the fundamental value of crypto assets be determined? 2. Which valuation techniques can be applied to the different token types? 3. What is the fundamental value of the IOTA token? In order to answer the questions, the thesis will progress in the following manner: First, the reader will be introduced to distributed ledger technology (DLT) and blockchain, which represent the underlying technology of crypto assets. In the next step the term ‘crypto asset’ will be defined. It will be elaborated to what extent crypto assets can be considered as a new asset class and how crypto assets can be classified into different types. The terminological part will end up with a discussion of the fundamental value of this new asset class. The main body of the thesis consists of two parts, a theoretical (conceptual) and a practical (applicational) part. The theoretical part aims to collect and evaluate all current valuation methods for crypto assets. Different absolute as well as relative valuation techniques will be elaborated, namely the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model and CAPM, the asset rotation theory, the Equation of Exchange, the NVT ratio, Metcalfe’s Law, the cost of production approach as well as the accessibility discount. The second part of the main body comprises a case application of one valuation model, namely the Equation of Exchange, to the IOTA token.

Valuing Data by Dewey E. Ray Pdf

The past decade has seen a dramatic increase in the amount and variety of information that is generated and stored electronically by business enterprises. Storing this increased volume of information has not been a problem to date, but as these information stores grow larger and larger, multiple challenges arise for senior management: namely, questions such as "How much is our data worth?" "Are we storing our data in the most cost-effective way?" "Are we managing our data effectively and efficiently?" "Do we know which data is most important?" "Are we extracting business insight from the right data?" "Are our data adding to the value of our business?" "Are our data a liability?" "What is the potential for monetizing our data?" and "Do we have an appropriate risk management plan in place to protect our data?" To answer these value-based questions, data must be treated with the same rigor and discipline as other tangible and intangible assets. In other words, corporate data should be treated as a potential asset and should have its own asset valuation methodology that is accepted by the business community, the accounting and valuation community, and other important stakeholder groups. Valuing Data: An Open Framework is a first step in that direction. Its purpose is to: Provide the reader with some background on the nature of data Present the common categories of business data Explain the importance of data management Report the current thinking on data valuation Offer some business reasons to value data Present an "open framework"—along with some proposed methods—for valuing data The book does not aim to prescribe exactly how data should be valued monetarily, but rather it is a "starting point" for a discussion of data valuation with the objective of developing a stakeholder consensus, which, in turn, will become accepted standards and practices.

Understanding Cryptocurrencies by Ariel Santos-Alborna Pdf

Understanding Cryptocurrencies is perfect for both introductory investors to the digital asset space and experienced investors seeking to gain practical insight into frameworks for understanding digital assets and valuation metrics. The book provides in-depth analysis of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the different types of Altcoins in the ecosystem. The author demonstrates an empirical approach to explaining how digital assets can fit into a diversified portfolio of traditional financial assets, or as a standalone portfolio in a parallel financial ecosystem. The book contains fundamental, technical, and on-chain analytic tools for investors to better understand Bitcoin price cycles that will ultimately lead to better returns. The capital from these price cycles oftentimes migrates to other digital assets, creating a robust ecosystem and providing opportunities for enterprising investors to generate additional alpha. In Understanding Cryptocurrencies, the author also offers options for asset custody and counterargument breakdowns to create better informed investors. Lastly, the author provides poignant insight into the economic inefficiencies created from decades of Central Bank interest rate manipulation and monetary expansion. These inefficiencies have had social, political, and economic implications. It is ultimately due to these inefficiencies that a global sound money vacuum exists for Bitcoin and other digital assets to exploit.

Value in a Digital World by Francisco J. López Lubián,José Esteves Pdf

An in-depth examination of the concept of value in a digital world, an analysis of a range of digital business models and a framework for assessing the value of digital businesses. Assessing the value of traditional business was easy. There are hard, well tested metrics and tangible, measurable assets you can literally kick the tyres of. But how do you measure the value of something that consists of little more than bits of information, brand awareness and a compelling idea? In the winner takes all digital world how do you know if this idea is one that will attract billions of dedicated users or a few thousand fleeting trialists? And, most importantly, how do you assess whether any given business model is robust enough to make billions or flawed in a way that will lose millions? Lopez Lubian and Esteves look at what economic value means in a digital world, and argue for a shift from traditional value metrics to digital value metrics. Through high profile case studies they examine the process of valuation in the digital world – examining the challenges of making objective judgments from subjective information and how to assess the value of data. Next they analyse in depth a number of different digital business models from the perspective of delivering value to investors, stakeholders and society at large. Finally they present a framework model for assessing value in digital business.
