Digital Libido by Alexander Bard,Jan Söderqvist Pdf

Global growth sets new records, poverty and illiteracy rates fall, technological innovation creates amazing opportunities. Still we are deeply discontent, there is something fundamentally wrong with contemporary society. Democracies are paralysed and produce authoritarian bullies as leaders, a growing underclass sedates itself with fast carbs and moronic entertainment. Society is infantilised and political discourse implodes. Digital Libido: Sex, power and violence in the network society is a deep and brutal analysis of humanity s rapidly increasing sense of loss and confusion in the network society. Departing from Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, and his prophetic masterpiece Civilisation and its Discontents, philosophers and futurologists Alexander Bard and Jan Söderqvist create a tour de force while digging deep into the human condition in the internet age. Exposing every aspect of the complex relationship between Man and technology, Bard & Söderqvist clarify our current and future existential dilemmas. Welcome to the attentionalist chaos, where order gains such a massive value that people are willing to pay any price to obtain it. So what is happening? And why? Digital Libido: Sex, power and violence in the network society answers the questions you were too scared to even ask. About the authors: ALEXANDER BARD is a philosopher, futurologist, spiritual and political activist. He has a background of almost three decades as a highly successful artist, producer and songwriter in the music industry. Bard is a globally renown lecturer and ideologue, both on the live stage and on a multitude of media platforms. JAN SÖDERQVIST is a philosopher, futurologist and lecturer. Söderqvist is a pioneer of online television, but has been professionally active in almost all conceivable media disciplines, such as the daily press, magazines, film, radio and television. He currently writes for the Swedish major daily Svenska Dagbladet and works as editor for Axess Magasin.

The Digital Transformation of Labor by Anthony Larsson,Robin Teigland Pdf

Through a series of studies, the overarching aim of this book is to investigate if and how the digitalization/digital transformation process causes (or may cause) the autonomy of various labor functions, and its impact in creating (or stymieing) various job opportunities on the labor market. This book also seeks to illuminate what actors/groups are mostly benefited by the digitalization/digital transformation and which actors/groups that are put at risk by it. This book takes its point of departure from a 2016 OECD report that contends that the impact digitalization has on the future of labor is ambiguous, as on the one hand it is suggested that technological change is labor-saving, but on the other hand, it is suggested that digital technologies have not created new jobs on a scale that it replaces old jobs. Another 2018 OECD report indicated that digitalization and automation as such does not pose a real risk of destroying any significant number of jobs for the foreseeable future, although tasks would by and large change significantly. This would affects welfare, as most of its revenue stems from taxation, and particularly so from the taxation on labor (directly or indirectly). For this reason, this book will set out to explore how the future technological and societal advancements impact labor conditions. The book seeks to provide an innovative, enriching and controversial take on how various aspects of the labor market can be (and are) affected the ongoing digitalization trend in a way that is not covered by extant literature. As such, this book intends to cater to a wider readership, from a general audience and students, to specialized professionals and academics wanting to gain a deeper understanding of the possible future developments of the labor market in light of an accelerating digitalization/digital transformation of society at large.

The Matrix by Joshua Clover Pdf

The Matrix (1999), directed by the Wachowski sisters and produced by Joel Silver, was a true end-of-the-millennium movie, a statement of the American zeitgeist, and, as the original film in a blockbusting franchise, a prognosis for the future of big-budget Hollywood film-making. Starring Keanu Reeves as Neo, a computer programmer transformed into a messianic freedom fighter, The Matrix blends science fiction with conspiracy thriller conventions and outlandish martial arts created with groundbreaking digital techniques. A box-office triumph, the film was no populist confection: its blatant allusions to highbrow contemporary philosophy added to its appeal as a mystery to be decoded. In this compelling study, Joshua Clover undertakes the task of decoding the film. Examining The Matrix's digital effects and how they were achieved, he shows how the film represents a melding of cinema and video games (the greatest commercial threat to have faced Hollywood since the advent of television) and achieves a hybrid kind of immersive entertainment. He also unpacks the movie's references to philosophy, showing how The Matrix ultimately expresses the crisis American culture faced at the end of the 1990s.

Digital Scenography by Néill O’Dwyer Pdf

Shortlisted for the PQ Best Publication Award in Performance Design & Scenography 2023 This book uses digital media theory to explore contemporary understandings of expanded scenography as spatial practice. It surveys and analyses a selection of ground-breaking, experimental digital media performances that comprise a genealogy spanning the last 30 years, in order to show how the arrival of digital technologies have profoundly transformed performance practice. Performances are selected based on their ability to elicit the unique specificities of digital media in new and original ways, thereby exposing both the richness and shortcomings of digital culture. O'Dwyer argues that contemporary scenography is largely propelled by and dependent on digital technologies and represents a rich, fertile domain, where unbridled creativity can explore new techniques and challenge the limits of knowledge. The 30-year genealogy includes works by Troika Ranch, Stelarc, Klaus Obermaier, Chunky Moves, Onion Lab and Blast Theory. In addition to applying a broad scope of performance analysis and aesthetic theory, the work includes artists' interviews and opinions. The volume opens important aesthetic, philosophical and socio-political themes in order to highlight the impact of digital technologies on scenographic practice and the blossoming of experimental interdisciplinarity. Ultimately, the book is an exploration of how evolutionary leaps in technology contribute to how humans think, act, make work, engage one another, and therefore construct meaning and identity.

Vibrant Collaboration - for people in leading positions interested in deeper dynamics of their colleagues by Heinz Robert Pdf

During collaboration within teams and organizations, sometimes dynamics appear between the co-workers that lead to various conditions that have to do with how they relate with each other. Conditions which include stagnation, tensions, stability or flow. Particularly, the dynamics between feminine and masculine forces seem to amplify these dynamics. With feminine and masculine I don't mean women and men, but the essential principles which can be active in different flavors in all genders. Many of these dynamics are generated by feelings and emotions, and even sexual attraction or its opposite, which are often unnoticed by the people involved and can have unconscious consequences. In this book the author wants to explore how such emotions, as well as our life force and more honest and intimate relations on the workplace, are influencing our collaboration in teams and organizations. When Eros is alive in us, creativity is following close behind. Many men and women in the past have experienced the power of Eros flowing while they painted marvelous paintings, wrote glorious poetry, or inventing advanced technologies. Great artists and inventors have often been inspired by their spouses, assistants, or other muses. An erotic stimulation can empower one to think faster or need less sleep, and it can provoke a longing to penetrate the arising questions in life even deeper. The author imagined inspired minds and hearts coming together in a team where the erotic energy can flow freely (without exploiting it), to empower individual creativity, supporting the co-creation of innovative developments. Applied honesty, authenticity and a more consciously lived intimacy can support the transmutation of Eros. And, in turn, this can lead to better conditions in the workplace, more inspiration, productivity, etc.

Internet Addiction by Emaline Friedman Pdf

This essential book questions the psychological construct of Internet Addiction by contextualizing it within the digital technological era. It proposes a critical psychology that investigates user subjectivity as a function of capitalism and imperialism, arguing against punitive models of digital excesses and critiquing the political economy of the Internet affecting all users. Friedman explores the limitations of individual-centered remediations exemplified in the psychology of internet addiction. Furthermore, Friedman outlines the self-creative actions of social media users, and the data processing that exploits them to urge psychologists to politicize rather than pathologize the effects of excessive net use. The book develops a notion of capitalist imperialism of the social web and studies this using the radical methods of philosopher Gilles Deleuze and psychoanalyst Félix Guattari. By synthesizing perspectives on digital life from sociology, economics, digital media theory, and technology studies for psychologists, this book will be of interest to academics and students in these areas, as well as psychologists and counselors interested in addressing Internet Addiction as a collective, societal ill.

Form Follows Libido by Sylvia Lavin Pdf

How modern architecture came to embrace the urges and fears of the affective unconscious. "Eight million Americans a year cool their heels in psychiatric waiting rooms. Design can help lower this nervous overhead."—Richard Neutra, 1954 Sylvia Lavin's Form Follows Libido argues that by the 1950s, some architects felt an urge to steer the cool abstraction of high modernism away from a neutral formalism toward the production of more erotic, affective environments. Lavin turns to the architecture of Richard Neutra (1892-1970) to explore the genesis of these new mood-inducing environments. In a series of engaging essays weaving through the designs and writings of this Vienna-born, California-based architect, Lavin discovers in Neutra a sustained and poignant psychoanalytic reflection set in the context of a burgeoning psychoanalytic culture in America. Lavin shows that Neutra's redirection of modernism constituted not a lyrical regression to sentimentality but a deliberate advance of architectural theory and technique to engage the unconscious mind, fueled by the ideas of psychoanalysis that were being rapidly disseminated at the time. In Neutra's responses to a vivid range of issues, from psychoanalysis proper to the popular psychology of tele-evangelical prayer, Lavin uncovers a radical reconstitution of the architectural discipline. Arguing persuasively that the received historical views of both psychoanalysis and architecture have led to a suppression of their compelling coincidences and unorthodoxies, Lavin sets out to unleash midcentury architecture's hidden libido. Neither Neutra nor psychoanalysis emerges unscathed from her investigation of how architecture came to be saturated by the intrigues of affect, often against its will. If Reyner Banham sought to put architecture "on the couch," then Lavin, through Neutra, leaps beyond Banham's ameliorative aim to lure contemporary architecture into the lush and dangerous liaisons of environmental design.

Peak Libido by Dominic Pettman Pdf

What is the carbon footprint of your libido? In this highly original book, Dominic Pettman examines the mutual influence and impact of human desire and ecological crisis. His account is premised on a simple but startling observation: the decline of libido among the world’s population, the loss of the human sex drive, closely tracks the destruction of environments worldwide. The advent of the Anthropocene leads to the decline of eros, the weakening of the link between sexual pleasure and human reproduction, and thus, potentially, to human extinction. Our capacity to care for one another in any meaningful way is being replaced by a restless, technologically-enhanced zombie drive. The environmental crisis of our time is also, and simultaneously, a crisis of human reproduction and of interpersonal intimacy. What Freud called ‘libidinal economy’ has morphed into libidinal ecology. Drawing on the work of a wide range of thinkers from Georges Bataille to Donna Haraway, Pettman explores the implications of peak libido, linking this development to the new cultural interest in eco-sexuality, polyamory, and other cases of the ‘greening of the libido’. Peak Libido is a forceful reminder that our hearts and loins are primarily ecological organs, beholden to their wider environments, and, as such, they share the same fate.

Libido's Twist by Ron McManus Pdf

Jake Palmer, an independent healthcare investigator, is searching for something to fill the emptiness he's felt since leaving the U.S. Navy SEALs 10 years earlier. Neither his work as a lawyer nor his endless string of short-term relationships fill the void. When a former colleague at B&A Pharmaceuticals asks Palmer to investigate the deaths of physician researcher Ian Smythe and his nurse in southwest England - killed in a horrific car crash - he reluctantly accepts the assignment. He and clinical research auditor Fiona Collins become entangled in a web of murder, deceit and ambition centered on a drug that treats hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women that could make billions for the company. Their deepening investigation puts their lives in danger. After Collins is abducted from her home, Palmer must confront his demons and risk his life to rescue her and bring those responsible to justice, even if it means killing them. If he fails, thousands of patients' lives will be at risk, and he will lose the one thing for which he's been searching. Ron McManus' pharmaceutical research and development career spanned more than 25 years, including an expatriate assignment in England, where he and his wife worked and lived for several years. He is the former vice president of global R&D quality and regulatory compliance, directing an international group of auditors with responsibility for audit of the company's animal and human research. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, the author was director of program integrity at the North Carolina Medical Peer Review Foundation, where he established the state's first Medicaid fraud and abuse investigation unit. The former U.S. Navy lieutenant and his wife, Mildred, live in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Digital Humanities and Religions in Asia by L.W.C. van Lit,James Harry Morris Pdf

In pre-modern religions in the geographical context of Asia we encounter unique scripts, number systems, calendars, and naming conventions. These can make Western-built technologies – even tools specifically developed for digital humanities – an ill fit to our needs. The present volume explores this struggle and the limitations and potential opportunities of applying a digital humanities approach to pre-modern Asian religions. The authors cover Buddhism, Christianity, Daoism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism and Shintoism with chapters categorized according to their focus on: 1) temples, 2) manuscripts, 3) texts, and 4) social media. Thus, the volume guides readers through specific methodologies and practical examples while also providing a critical reflection on the state of the field, pushing the interface between digital humanities and pre-modern Asian religions into new territory.
