Two low-level members of a biker gang in Saint-Luc, Quebec, a small town located on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, have the misfortune of losing a huge sum of money that belongs to a powerful American company. Furious, the head of the company entrusts his best men with recovering the cash, no matter what. Before they can get their hands on it, however, an ingenious and unscrupulous lawyer finds the money and decides to keep it to himself, throwing the investigators off his trail with a series of false leads. Further confounding the investigators’ efforts are a cast of quirky characters who inhabit the small town, including a corrupt cop and a nosey old woman, leading to a comedy of errors that is anything but funny for those who lost the money in the first place.

Bad with Money by Gaby Dunn Pdf

“Humorous and forthright...[Gaby] Dunn makes facing money issues seem not only palatable but possibly even fun....Dunn’s book delivers.” —Publishers Weekly The beloved writer-comedian expands on her popular podcast with an engaging and empowering financial literacy book for Millennials and Gen Z. In the first episode of her “Bad With Money” podcast, Gaby Dunn asked patrons at a coffee shop two questions: First, what’s your favorite sex position? Everyone was game to answer, even the barista. Then, she asked how much money was in their bank accounts. People were aghast. “That’s a very personal question,” they insisted. And therein lies the problem. Dunn argues that our inability to speak honestly about money is our #1 barrier to understanding it, leading us to feel alone, ashamed and anxious, which in turns makes us feel even more overwhelmed by it. In Bad With Money, she reveals the legitimate, systemic reasons behind our feeling of helplessness when it comes to personal finance, demystifying the many signposts on the road to getting our financial sh*t together, like how to choose an insurance plan or buy a car, sign up for a credit card or take out student loans. She speaks directly to her audience, offering advice on how to make that #freelancelyfe work for you, navigate money while you date, and budget without becoming a Nobel-winning economist overnight. Even a topic as notoriously dry as money becomes hilarious and engaging in the hands of Dunn, who weaves her own stories with the perspectives of various comedians, artists, students, and more, arguing that—even without selling our bodies to science or suffering the indignity of snobby thrift shop buyers—we can all start taking control of our financial futures.

Quantification by Anna Szabolcsi Pdf

Quantification forms a significant aspect of cross-linguistic research into both sentence structure and meaning. This book surveys research in quantification starting with the foundational work in the 1970s. It paints a vivid picture of generalized quantifiers and Boolean semantics. It explains how the discovery of diverse scope behaviour in the 1990s transformed the view of quantification, and how the study of the internal composition of quantifiers has become central in recent years. It presents different approaches to the same problems, and links modern logic and formal semantics to advances in generative syntax. A unique feature of the book is that it systematically brings cross-linguistic data to bear on the theoretical issues, covering French, German, Dutch, Hungarian, Russian, Japanese, Telugu (Dravidian), and Shupamem (Grassfield Bantu) and points to formal semantic literature involving quantification in around thirty languages.

The True Messiah & Other Plays by Leopold Szor by Leopold Szor Pdf

The plays of Leopold Szor focus on the effects of the Holocaust on those who lived through it. In his words, "survival confers no automatic nobility" and his fascination with the randomness of survival is prevalent throughout his work. Leo's plays, set both in wartime Poland and post-war Europe and America, explore the ways in which both oppressors and oppressed managed to survive the nightmare of war and the effect it had on their psyches. His characters live in a world of constant conflict: romance and pragmatism, fear and greed, ruthlessness and altruism, and the ghosts haunting those who made it out alive. In his forward, Szor says survival "bestows an obligation to speak out until the last breath" and it is in the spirit of this obligation that these plays were written. Leopold Szor was born in 1921 in Lwow, Poland. He spent his boyhood years in Cracow and then moved to Warsaw to attend university, but was interrupted on the first day of classes by the German invasion of Poland and forced to flee eastward. He returned to Lwow and attended art school during the Russian Occupation. After the Nazis invaded Leo was sent to the notorious Janowska concentration camp. He miraculously escaped, and after a daring flight into Russia he participated in the liberation of Poland as part of the re-formed Polish army. After the war Leo immigrated to the United States, where he has lived for the past 60 years. He has a son, Daniel, who lives in London and three grandchildren: Henry, Alex and Emily. Leo lives in New York City with his long-time companion Tove.

Decolonizing Mission Partnerships by Taylor Walters Denyer Pdf

We all know that healthy partnerships are essential to fruitful boundary-crossing ministries, but how exactly do we create them? What barriers must be overcome, and what self-examination must we do? How do the legacies of colonialism, racism, and unhealed trauma impact missional collaborations today? In this doctoral thesis, Denyer reflects on these questions as she examines the history of relational dynamics between American and Congolese United Methodists in the North Katanga Conference (DR Congo). By surveying memoirs, magazines, and journals, and conducting in-depth interviews, Denyer presents a complex and multifaceted example of a partnership that is in the process of decolonizing. More than just a history lesson, Decolonizing Mission Partnerships presents the questions, hard truths, pitfalls, and toxic assumptions we must face when attempting to be in mission together.
